Servers Locked Again..!!

lol sounds like a normal first day of EA to me unfortunately, What SE should have done was:

1) made more than 5 Legacy servers.
2) made more servers period.

Then once everything was settled, merge server together with low populations and worked down to what they needed. Not work up and fill them up before making more, but still no one can see the future and they are doing the best they can under the circumstances.

Nope. The JP datacenter and NA/EU datacenters use separate instance/duty finder servers. The NA/EU datacenter's instance server either went down or didn't have enough capacity. The rest of the game was fine. It's just hard to get anywhere without the duty finder/instance server because even solo instances need to reserve an instance from the instance server.

Biggest mistake you could do would be adding more servers now. Do you remember what happend to SWTOR when they did that cause the servers where full on Early Access.
You will have to wait at least 14 days after release cause then alot ppl will leave after the free 14 days. If you add servers now you will produce ghost server in the future.
I'm quite sure SE has taken that into account and we have to deal with that for now, but that happens in every AAA title in the first days/weeks

Wonder if they plan to either unlock servers or create more for official game day....im not super worried yet minus the fact half my guild is scattered across the realms as is....the thing I wonder about the most is why cant the same account create an alt on the server they are already on, I have to assume it has something to do with amount of character data being allowed per server..i dunno /shrug will see what happens on launch and than yell from that point forward...meanwhile /fingerscrossed

It's not ideal that the game is down for 3 hours on the first day,
but ultimately,

THE GAME IS OUTPERFORMING.
That's a good thing.
It's even better that the game is ready to be launched.

In my opinion, if we have to have server locks, the game should have had 2 options added. Invite a friend, so if you're on, you can invite your friends. And also a better lock system. So you get something like "Moogle is locked for 3 hours, if you're new to the game, consider creating a character on a open world." Then in 3 hours, Moogle opens up again for a short time to allow those who are waiting on it to go. And just roll the lock outs to force new players and players who don't mind to go to the lower pop servers, while giving people who are meeting up with friends a time when they know they can try to get back in instead of refreshing for hours upon hours with no real idea when and if they can get in.

Right now its kinda just "This locked, out of luck buddy, and fyi we wont tell you when you can try again lol" That's just my take on it.

I seriously do not understand the people saying SE can not help this. Yes they could have avoided this!

1) They could have made an invite system like FFXI had. That way they could have closed the servers early, before they were completely full. Everyone with friends/family on the server could get on it by asking someone online to buy a password.

2) They could have closed the servers a bit sooner during open beta, to avoid paying early access customers missing on the opportunity to play on a certain server.

3) They could have deleted all characters after open beta or at least could have deleted all open beta characters with no legacy or early access status.

Letting a few more people online is not going to crash the servers! There is something called a queue system. This is not the avoid overloading the servers, this is simply to spread out the community as much as possible. If Square Enix seriously things that they can force people to play without their friends, family or guilds they are pretty stupid.

There should have been at least an update on this matter. Moogle was already closed when the early access started, almost NINE hours ago .... not one update, not a single word on this.

I did not write one bad post about FFXIV since I started 3 years ago, but this really has me on the edge of quitting. I played and followed lots of MMORPG (EQ, EQII, FFXI, WoW, Lineage II and more), but none had this kind of crap happening.

Servers going down for maintenance? No problem, can happen during release days. Forcing people onto certain servers and closing fresh new servers for new characters for 9 hours or more? Never heard of that before .... congratulations Square Enix.

I think the best thing would have been to have something like GW2, where you have "overflow" servers for each server and allow people to be invited to a server (once full) so friends/guildmates/families can stick together and just put people into the overflow server so they can play and place them into a server queue that lets them join when it's ready.

That way peopel can play even when teh server is full and join once it isn't.

You are right WOW release was way worse :P

I think at the very least SE should make some kind of response regarding Moogle.

the server has been locked for creation for the entire day, its insanely over-populated and impossible to do anything. you cannot do any monster hunt quests because there's almost 100 other people all trying to do it at the same time, any single spawn is dead before your global cooldown has ended from the first attack and no-one gets credit.

If SE wants to spread the population out, then why dont they offer free transfers OFF moogle for those who want them, i'm sure there's people with P4 characters who'd be ok moving to another server, once the congestion dies down they can then re-open Moogle for creation.

but staying silent while people agonise and waste entire days on the slim offchance that it'll open for the split second they need is poor, very very poor.
