Nothing free... my final offer, the 30 days you get after you purchase you game copy is MORE then adequate... Past that NO on all levels..
No free level 1-20 (even with restrictions)
No nothing.
Buy game, register CC and pick a pay option, get access to game...
No cash shop either...
Long-term F2P would be awful IMO. XIV is just, simply put, not meant to be F2P.
However, I like the 15 or 30 day free trial idea. I was 15 years old when I joined FFXI, and since I didn't make a lot of money, I was very cautious about spending it. I really liked that I could try it out before I committed to it. Of course, this opens the door for a lot of RMT activity, and I feel that the system in XI was extremely flawed.
I would hope that if the free trial was implemented in XIV, a lot of work would be done to prevent RMT abuse.. such as /tell restrictions (i.e. can only /t a certain number of people within a certain length of time, or receive a temporary /t restriction), a good chat filter, a system that can detect /tell spam.. I don't know, lol, obviously I'm not a developer, these are just some ideas based on my experience in XI. If people want to buy gil, that's their choice, but there's no reason why we should have to put up with the RMT advertisements.
Free to Play is the new grass 3 threads about it on the front page ...stay classy vocal minority
I don't see any problem with a Free Trial (limited time or otherwise) that would only allow you to go 10-20 levels, and lock the ability to influence the economy in any way (such as trading with players or using the marketplace/auction houses) so you can't abuse the system to feed yourself starter quest gil and/or items. It gives new players a small taste of the game without commiting, doesn't let them get too much content out of the game before stopping them, and could even have other limitations, like not being able to access higher-end zones that you woulnd't be able to survive at such a low level anyways (would lessen the amount of data someone would be required to download/patch for a trial version of the game client).
Doesn't hurt the "paying" player base, and allows people who were curious about the game but not ready to sign up for the monthly subscription just yet (because they feel it might not be worth it) judge whether or not this is the kind of game they'd enjoy playing. Would draw in alot more players that would eventually want to become permanent subscribers, in my opinion. Could even make a Free Trial server, where they put all of the trial players so they don't interact with the normal playerbase whatsoever.
As I said in the other F2P thread. The mere idea of F2P is extremely disrespectful for the team who have given so much of their time and efforts to reconstruct this.
Lol. I'm going to continue subbing. I just know that without another option, ARR won't last too long. I want more people to play with.
Also, you're missing the point. In most cases, F2P games end up costing more money than subbing due to a lot of restrictions and premiums. A lot of people enjoy entertaining the notion that they aren't being forced to pay the monthly fee. However, they go on spending more than the monthly fee itself on things from a cash shop.
No F2P model for FF14 please.
