What even is this genderlocked nonsense again?

The jacket on males showing their belly is a hard pass for me.

But I know in this, men get very little in the way of shorts. Just some normal knee length shorts, with cargo pockets or maybe summer shorts would do.

Also the item picture showing trousers when your character is a female, makes you get lost for a moment looking for the item.

That does not mean a female pants variant and a male shorts variant don't exist, we just haven't seen it. We're on the same side, don't get me wrong, I also want both for everyone, but wouldn't it make more sense to confirm it actually is genderlocked before we get angry over it? I'll just wait for the patch and see it myself.

The requirements CBU3 have when creating anything are not, and will never be the same as modders. They've barely been awakened to the concept of optimizing their mods so you won't blow up someone else's PC upon spawning at a party.
Outsourcing to professionals? Sure! But not just straight up modders lol

The modern set looks like it'd fit in the PvP series malmstones. The other one strikes me as a mix of space idol and an airline attendant (?) so I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up in CE. But we don't really know where they're going to show up. We know it's unlikely to be in the Mogstation because they pretty much never announce those as part of "patch content", they just release it without previous announcement.



Edit: One of the modern ones is likely to be the treasure map one. There's also a 3rd modern fit we saw in the LL, so we don't really know what is going where until release day.

Beside harder mods being illegal (like console and hardware modding, anything that gives you a competitive edge) there is a definite "Only we control the narrative of our games" type of situation. Besides needing to control quality output, there is cultural things happening here.

Which I do find odd considering Japan being the home of doujinshi of all things, but I digress. It's unlikely to happen with Square Enix who are very old guard in the rpg realm. They likely want to ignore modders. I think FF15 was more of a fluke because the game absolutely flubbed, and they don't want to attack modders on FF14 because they know that there is seriously cultural differences at play, and also modders have to pay money to even test their mods (because you can only test in game) and that it is way to late to stop that train without serious consequences on the bottom line.

I’ve already seen people defend the genderlock because it’s “based” and a “retvrn to tradition”. But I do not think having a man in a crop top fits that description. Nor the woman in baggy pants. This isn’t a good example of a pendulum swing, if you ask me. FF7 and 10 had great examples of men’s and women’s gear being distinct yet modern. If you wanted to “retvrn”, it should be something along what they had with attractive and clear gender separation and combat utility.

of course they would always have to curate what kinds of mods are allowed and for a fact most would have to used in a vanilla style so they can keep the rating board from sueing etc or from some places banning the game.
but we do have confirmation that they are fine with things that don't cause disruptions like shaders for example things that enhance graphics or just things that are strictly SFW an are not stolen assets from other franchises' etc

Another preview of the PVP gear has been released with the preliminary patch 7.3 notes. I believe the model on the far left is a male Hyur... Sighs. I would love to be wrong about presuming the leg slot being genderlocked for this gearset, but it's likely.
