Which internet handbook did you pull that from?
To be honest, FFXI was my first MMORPG and I got way addicted to it. Back in 2005 is when I started playing, about when Promathia came out, soon after that I bought ToAU. It was one of the greatest MMORPGs I have played. Whenever there was a few months that i couldn't afford it, I tried playing games like Rappelz, Perfect World, Flyff, WoW free trial, Maplestory, Ragnarok private server (still a great game), Phantasy Star Online (Played on gamecube, currently playing PSO2), and many others. I do not mean to compare, and I wont. I just have to say that FFXI seemed to have a lot more effort put into it. The music and art style won over any other MMORPG, not to say I don't like the artwork for Phantasy Star, I really love the concept and I think it is pretty on par with the Final Fantasy series as far as an MMORPG coming from an old NES/SNES game goes.
FFXI was beautiful, the scenery and the music matched. It was how Ocarina of Time was to me. Simply enjoyable, and very very playable, I could play it over and over again, and I did. I had Shayde, Hyleus, Ravani, and Nurusanura. Yes, played 4 times because I loved starting anew. For the most part, I loved the party content but I hated how long it took to get into a party. I had to play as a Paladin on Ravani because by then, I understood that it was probably the only job I can get to level 75 first, nobody loved Monk, nobody loved Thief, and it was sad that those two jobs are my favorite.
Now we have FFXIV, which turned out to be a disappointment at first. Though, I still played, I kept thinking to myself that this was just a joke, a setup. Part of me thinks this was a conspiracy, that SE needed to do this to use as an excuse to change their ways, whether it brought more disappointment or actual favor towards the company, they needed to have a real reason to test this new strategy.
Anyways, off with that subject. FFXIV now is really enoyable, but there still is a limit to how much content one can do. Especially for someone that started withing the first 3-4 months, are caught up with everything. Whenever a new patch is released, content is caught up within a few hours - 1 day at most. I am very glad they have content like Skirmish because that really does open much opportunity for more and more content like that. Another thing that makes Skirmish playable is the fact that the weapons are meldable, so that also creates a lot of gil sink and playtime if one wanted to multi-meld onto them, they could be much better than relic.
FFXIV is still new to me though. Even though it is about 2 years old, I, along with SE, believe that this wasn't the game that FFXIV was supposed to be. I have it in me to play it as it is, I believe that 2.0 will make me even want to play it more.
Seriously though, I could cancel my account for 3 months and save that money to buy Ocarina of Time for my 3DS, but as much as i love Ocarina of Time, I want to experience a new game that will continue to grow. I want to see 2.0 and the new world it will bring, with matching music to scenery this time!
Also, gotta throw this in there. I absolutely love Akihiko Yoshida. He is my most favorite artist and I adore the armor designs and concepts in this game. Not that it reminds me of FFXII or Tactics or anything, I just love his art style! <3
First time i played XI i picked BLM and i had the stone spell iw as like wtf? The thing i hated most about 11 was the derpy wait times and slow combat, lvling a DD class was wait for 100 tp use all your buffs then ws.
Even tho i hated all of that i still played the game tho.
I think the main point the op is trying to make that people tend to glorify old games and forget that they have their bad sides as well I've been playing mmo's since I was 17 years old which was 14 years ago. I started out with Nexus the Kingdom of winds and played that for a year or more and it had it's ups and downs it's ups where the people i met on it. The downs where it's graphics which in 1998 still weren't great for an mmo granted it was a Korean one but still also the fact that when they implemented pvp they did it in a way that makes you /facepalm when you think about it.
I've played both This game and FFXI and I've loved both games the good with the bad. So I'm not a hater of either game. Would I go back to FFXI probably not because I'm enjoying this game more and I want to move on to something different but I could still install the game and create an account if I wanted too since I have the discs still
The only point the OP is trying to make... is nothing, hes trolling comming from another thread he was trolling, his post was an exact copy/paste, hes pissed people liked what 11 was, even though these same people admited the obv. flaws the game had, though very minor threw the whole game, he feels the need to repeat them over and over claiming everyone holds the game to god status or something.
FFS his biggest problem from what i remember, saw it when he first posted... is character creation, really, because looking at your character is obviously the biggest part of the game and what you focus on. Content/endgame/leveling/community/ls none of this is important, just how the faces of npc's look, the fact that shantoto's isnt for some reason different from every other taru npc (shes just a strong taru, it literally makes no sense to think she has to look different than other taru's, and... wtf cares).
People also, along with the OP complaining about "Only fighting one mob at a time"... so? It was fun, wtf do people prefer massive mob burns where people do/learn nothing and most of the party can be afk.
Also this:
"- slow and passive combat (BLM had to rest MP for hours, casting spells each 10 minutes. Melee jobs hit every 5 seconds and have to wait for their TP to finally get filled slowly)"
If hes really trying to make a point, he shouldnt exaggerate to such a degree in the OP... there was HMP sets to get mp at a good speed and -cure cast time 50%, fast cast gear
For DD's - 26.4% haste cap (was something like that, been awile), TP building set
The OP is most likely someone who refused to use macro's because it could only be done by a programmer... obviously (i really hope people understand the sarcasm). He must have been naked trying to do anything in the game to have that big of an issue with it, nothing was that slow.
Are you mad, or something? You seem a bit defensive.
It's OK. People can have opinions. That's why these forums exist.
Here. Have a flower.
