If we don't get to explore and rebuild more of Garlmald, it will be a waste.

Well, the Ishgardians in the Brume are shivering in the cold and one line of sidequests has a firewood thief die of freezing because she was too stubborn to use her stolen firewood as fuel when she was planning on selling it to buy a plot of land in the Sea of Clouds.

The first dungeon in Heavensward was frozen all the way down into the depths of an Ishgardian fortress and the journal notes left behind talk about the deep freeze that killed everyone there. The climate is now eternally winter in the Central and Western Highlands of Coerthas and the EE talks about how it completely destroyed Ishgard's industries and plants and animals went extinct. Garlemald at least thaws in the summer and is green for a brief moment of time.

Considering people lived in Siberia pre-petroleum, the Garleans will be OK in the long run, they just happened to have their society collapse in the middle of a bad northern winter. The city of Ishgard was lucky in that their city was still standing when the weather changed for the worst around them. But they still lost their hamlets of Falcon's Nest (recently rebuilt) and Owl's Nest, and most of the farms in the surrounding region to the cold.

See, I always thought the Dusk Vigil was busted open by a storm or dragon attacks, which made living through that cold unfeasible. It doesn't really matter how manageable that cold is on a regular day when there's a huge gaping hole in your wall.

But I admit I haven't read a whole lot of the Encyclopedia Eorzea; I've only got a scan of EE1 that's... generally not high-quality enough to actually read for fun, I only crack it open when I know there's something directly useful in there. I've ordered the physical copies, but they've been delayed!

I think I'm mostly concerned about how the changed political climate is going to affect the Garlean populace, because both the remaining legions and the provincial armies could cause issues for the capital going into the future.

Last we heard the latter had been subdued by Nerva's armies before he marched on the capital, but the onset of the Final Days is liable to have thrown things into turmoil again considering how things played out in Corvos.
