FFXIV is so teamwork-averse that it's parading around in the skin of a trinity game and is all the poorer for it. It's shucked off the philosophy of roles-based teamwork in so many ways it'd honestly be a better designed game if they finished the job and found a different paradigm to run with; pretending that different roles bring different things to the table isn't fooling anyone when you have DPS, DPS with more defense, and DPS with a horrible rotation that can counter the occasional mechanical screwups more frequently.
