Back in my day, we didn't just get our airship passes handed to us. We had to EARN them. That's right. Rank Mission 4-1. Magicite baby!
But in all seriousness, a multi-ride pass or seasonal pass would be pretty nice.

As a means of transport I'm happy with them the way they are. The addition of being able to take the scenic rout with activities would be nice as an option.
I think the system is fine as it is, though I hope they implement the other various airship landings with 2.0 or sooner. I would gladly pay 2000g for a quick flight to some of the more remote areas in order to conserve anima.
I have a novel solution to the OP's issues with usage and speed. For those that played FFXI and remember the Treant event, I suggest something similar. For those unfamiliar, the event had players across the server killing massive Treants (similar to the Guardians of the Grove) in each zone. Once all were killed, the server was rewarded with Outpost teleportation services (we did not have anima so travel was either walk, Choco, WHM teleport, or death warp).
So my suggestion is this: the airship companies are looking for a new fuel source to power their ships and are asking adventurers to help. Players can either mine it in certain grade 5 areas or kill certain mobs (new?) as a way to obtain the fuel source. Set a quota for each city-state (say 1,000,000 pieces of fuel) and players have 1 week to complete the challenge (real life). This would be another example of a "live event" that Yoshi-P wants to incorporate into the world.
I have plenty more ideas similar to this. What do you all think?
@ Aryden, I welcome ideas that involve more then being handed a free pass to the airships, or any other mode of travel for that matter. IMO earning everything is much better then being handed everything.
I would agree, as long as it does not use frequent destination of overall travelers into the equation.
I'm sure alot of us remember the fiasco that was associated with Tele-Mea.
Nuts to paying 45k cause alot of people go to Uldah. But all things considered, I also hate the... 2-5 minute wait... sorta?
Never was too bad in my opinion.
