My idea of a map update was pretty simple.
No more PS3 restrictions -> No more 512MB RAM restrictions
1: Merge the city states of Ul'Dah, Limsa Lominsa, Gridania AND Ishgard into a single map again and update graphics so everything doesn't look like blancmange anymore. The starting city states are important to new players and still important to veteran players, they should look as good as possible and not be left as a relic of PS3 limitations.
2: Merge Thanalan, La Noscea, and the Shroud areas back together, and add the areas in between the maps back and add some new FATEs / Quests / neat little headnods to the 1.0 lore
Less important but an idea:
3: Add an old location from 1.0 re-imagined for Thanalan and La Noscea, add West Shroud back to the Shroud, Expand Mor Dhona so it covers the South area of the lake again. I guess East Coerthas is part of PvP now... The reason mostly to make them lvl 70+ areas (or 80+ depending on what expansion the update is introduced in), and to allow for MSQ to occur back in Eorzea that is new to older players that doesn't have to be that large, which finally grants access to flying in these areas as they're significantly large enough maps to allow for it now. It could be a way of reconnecting the realm back to some of the original ideas intended for 1.0 but were never realised, without bogging down the current direction of the story too much.
