It's like wanting Isaac in Smash and getting him as an assist trophy.
Yes, and?
Let's look at things from an objective point of view. This game, at its very core gameplay, has not really changed for half a decade. Since 2.0 onward, we've had this "ham-fisted trinity" gameplay. Yet somehow that's what garnered over-- I just googled it-- 14mil players. I've not seen any reasonable sign to think trend is changing either. This is the gameplay that gave this game its success. This seems to be the style that is most reinforcing to costumers. Gee, it's like this is what people really want.
Of course, when you take away a reinforcer from your client there is backlash to be expected. Just because you may be jaded and tired of this gameplay does not give you permission to assume everyone else is, neither does it justify this silly expectation we should be indifferent, or even worse, thankful for this offense.
We wouldn't technically be worse off for not getting Shadowbringers, either.
But that doesn't mean it wouldn't involve massive amounts of wasted potential.
I'm not. The majority of the posts across this and the five other largest BLU threads are not.
I, personally, am complaining because BLU was the perfect trump-card excuse to revise core issues of lackluster design in the overarching game, especially its leveling experience and job treatment. Instead, it will scarcely touch the larger game. I get the same pained twinge out of it that I would a player wasting their most valuable tool in worlds' finals esports match, costing their team a multimillion dollar prize. Except, in this case, we were the would-be recipients as well. So much potential. Almost all of it wasted.
Where did i say BLU should be either a DD as efficient as a RDM, a heal as effcient as a scholar AND a tank as efficient as a pld ?
The MMORPG like trinity because it works yes, but this trinity is not the only thing which exist !
From the begining, you speak like it is the only way to make classes/jobs in MMORPG, like no other manage to do another way....
Do you know Aion? FFXI? DAOC? EQ? even WoW Vanilla (but less than previous i did list)
The BLU could be a really bad healer, AND unable to tank at all, AND a bad DD. And being all this and being a really usefull job to fight against any end game boss. And all game are not with fights "like rathalos"
And it doesn't really a need to change how FFXIV works ! We just call it "support class" a classe bad everywhere, but this same class boost the team, making it far more efficient than a 4th DD
And if you did read all i said, you can see i dont as the dev team to get a BLU with ALL his skills for end game, he has the open world content for this, and his specific content. For the "duties" content, the devs just use 24 skills (seems to be the number we have now?) and build a gameplay with those 24.
It would remove NOTHING about what we already have.
THIS is a way to add the BLU, as it is really in other FF, with a side content, and a place in main core content. And so, this job would be far better handle than most job we already have. Because many people says "BLU is special" but all jobs are special, and was dumpeddown to fit to FFXIV... without a side content where the "real" job exists
People happy with BLU not getting in main content :
-Because it changes thing => how? the trinity stays, the leveling stays, the grind stays the same
-Because impossibility to balance BLU => Why ? make a gameplay for duties content, and change nothing for carnival/OW content simply
-Because else BLU is cumpdown => Like is RDM, DRK, NIN, SAM, WHM, BLM today on FFXIV...
I really dont understand why all those thing become a thing only now?
This was literally never going to happen and I am lol'ing at every single person who is ever mad about wasted potential. Way to make up some nonsense in your head and then angrily post about it when your head canon doesn't pan out. Hilarious.
My class fantasy is Korpokkur Collossus does ddr and I am mad as heck that it's just a mount! SE really missed an opportunity here. Such wasted potential, smh. Would have turned the game around for the dozens of us. DOZENS!!!
The thing is, the revelation that they want to make jobs that exist in their own bubble of content is a bad thing. Rather than focus their limited effort on new systems of content that every job can participate in they are making a job that will require effort and dev time to continually develop new content explicitly only for that one job. And then they revealed they want to expand this for new limited jobs. At best it means they have to constantly develop the masked carnival for a select few jobs to have content to do, at worst they will make unique content for each limited job that only that specific job could do that would then need to be constantly developed for to make it not dead.
Or they could do the smart thing and just make a job that can participate in the rest of the game, then focus effort on developing new systems of content that are more innovative, but everyone can participate in.
As it stands this whole limited job idea seems like it'll be a lot of wasted dev time.
Oh but I am worse off, there is something you learn about if you go to college for business called the cost of opportunity or the alternative cost. It is the cost that you pay when choosing between two options, the cost is that you can't enjoy anything from the option you lost or gave up. In this case the opportunity cost is far higher than any enjoyment I may, but will not, get from the implementation of blue mage that is currently planned. Furthermore, the decision to implement blue mage in this manner creates precedence that makes it easier for them to ruin other jobs in the future that I would have enjoyed were they not limited. They even listed two of them: beast master and puppet master. So I most definitely am worse off than if they had not released blue mage at all.
But I am. Dev time was spent on this instead of something I'd enjoy.
