my big problem is massive fps drop..this occurs from the patch 4.3 until now
i tried every way to improve but nothing changes.i heard that someone got this trouble related to window update or something else.but i tried to fix even lower the game settings
-tried to clean everything unnecessary to boost for the fps in game..when i log in the game..i saw my fps back to normal is 100-110 fps and then drop slowly to 20 even 17..almost cant play game
Date & Time: 10/09/2018 before the patch 4.4 released
Frequency: Very often-always
World Name: Tonbery
Character Name: Xaviel godofgalaxy
Party or Solo: Both
In-Game Time: any time
Area and Coordinates: Happens anywhere
Steps:
1. Login
2. Stand at point within few minutes and then to step 3
3. Suffer severe fps drops at anytime- anywhere
GPU performance change before and after you started having the issue: GPU used to run very smoothly before and then started having serious issues using about 100%, which causes horrible framerate drops at random points. Framerate drops seem to occur anywhere, under any circumstance, regardless of what is going on around. I drop from 110fps to 17-25fps instantly and quickly

Steps:
GPU Utilization is always max, but in alphascape the GPU Clock goes down to 1775 Mhz (normally outside its 1885 Mhz), also the Core Temp dramatically inscreases to 83 Celcius which is Max to the Perf Cap Reason to Throttle is Temperature.
This is the only game and content ingame which does this occur. Instantly after leaving Alphascape its back to Normal and Temp will never be Cap Reason.

SO.... after several months, much trial and error, diving into my settings, full reinstall's etc etc. I believe I have FINALLY remedied the problem!
Delving into my "NVidia GeForce Experience" settings, I discovered the In Game overlay toggle. I've seen this pop up once in a while, but have never needed to use it and just dismiss it normally, thought nothing of it.
Turns out THIS is what was causing the issue. For some reason, since around 4.2/4.3ish I think the overlay began automatically enabling itself when playing FFXIV, which then interacted in a negative way with the video card resources.

I have disabled this now and the problem has completely gone away. No chopping, no Freezing, no animation lock ups.
I'm mindful that there is also a smattering of Radeon Card users on this thread, but the vast majority are NVidia and I believe this will greatly help a lot of users looking for answers on here.
Looking it up, Radeon cards DO have an overlay feature, though not sure how you would go about setting/testing this since I don't use that.
Give it a go folks, might just be the missing piece of info we were all looking for.

Can confirm this issue occurred when I moved Windows 10 from 1709 to 1809. No other changes happened.
I currently have issues in video playback now occasionally in chrome (netflix/youtube/twitch) where it skips also. Programs that monitor temperature changes are known to cause deadlock issues and frame skips on nvidia's latest drivers. 417.35 fixed most of those problems for me.

Final Fantasy Directory was copied from old 1709 build to new fresh 1809 install. All the xbox stuff was turned off on both builds.

Is this thread still relevant? The emergency update yesterday evening has caused issues. My GPU is typically hovering around the 40% utilisation mark while running FFXIV. After the update it hits 100% the moment I open the game.
I was playing a few hours before the update with no issues at all. I closed the game down and turned off my PC about an hour before the update. I then turned on my PC and updated the game about an hour after the update. After 20 mins of playing I noticed FPS drops and some graphical artefacts typical of GPU overheating. I immediately shut the game down and starting looking to find the issue. GPU utilisation had been at 100% since I loaded the game. I tested several other games - none of them were affected.
Date & Time: Since 8pm GMT 15/02/2019
Frequency: all the time - right from the moment the game opens
World Name: Faerie, Siren, Balmung - yes I tested characters on all these worlds, same result.
Character Name: all characters
Party or Solo: both
In-Game Time: N/A
Area and Coordinates: first noticed there was a problem in uldah - then started checking GPU utilisation.
Steps:
1. After noticing the GPU utilisation I did a clean install of my GPU drivers and rebooted. Logged on to the game - utilisation still at 100%
2. I updated Windows. My system is locked down pretty tight windows cannot update without my giving it permission. Rebooted after updates. Issue persisted.
3. Uninstalled and reinstalled FFXIV. Issue persisted.
4. Changed graphical settings from full screen to windowed, changed resolution, turned settings down. GPU still at 100%
GPU performance change before and after you started having the issue: GPU usage around 40% prior to update, 100% after.
GPU: GTX170 Ti
Driver Version: 418.91 (earlier version as 417.71 experienced the issue with both)
CPU: i7 6700K 4GHz
RAM: 16GB
Hard Drive: Sandisk solid state
OS: Windows 10 64 bit
OS Version: build 1709
Graphics Settings: Running full screen.
FPS Limit: (System Configuration > Display Settings > FPS Limit) 60
I've talked to a FC member this morning who has a very similar PC build to mine. He is having the same issue - GPU utilisation is at 80% on launching the game and quickly climbs to 100%.

I cannot get NVidia's drivers past 3/28/18 to work properly on XIV. Is this an NVidia issue or SE issue? Same problem on both a GTX1070 and GTX1080ti. Game stutters and is basically an eyesore to look at.

My settings.
Here is a link to a post I made on the forum detailing my issues.

To answer your questions.
Date & Time: All the time honestly. Every time I play FF XIV
Frequency: Every time I play.
World Name: Leviathan
Character Name: Jibs J-
Party or Solo: Both
In-Game Time: Every time I play.
Area and Coordinates: Every where (Do you see a pattern?)
Steps:
1. Nothing needed I just start up the game and its at 100% GPU use the moment I leave the character select screen and load into the game.
2. Ive done clean installs using DDU (Display driver uninstaller)
3.
GPU performance change before and after you started having the issue: It kicks to 100% usage the moment I start playing.
GPU: RTX 2070
Driver Version: 419.67 (has happened with many prior drivers as well)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 2700X
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
Hard Drive: Samsung Evo 970 M.2 1TB Drive
OS: Win 10 Pro 64 Bit
OS Version: 1809 (Build 17763.379)
Graphics Settings: Ultra (But it happens no matter what I select.
FPS Limit: (System Configuration > Display Settings > FPS Limit) It happens with all limits because most the time the limiter is broken in Full screen and borderless with Gsync on.
See my post I linked above with the details.

DX Fatal error 11000002
Date & Time: Everyday, anytime..
Frequency: 5minutes after login
World Name: Moogle
Character Name: Chibbi Chibb
Party or Solo: Both
In-Game Time: Anytime
Area and Coordinates: Anywhere
Steps:
1. Nothing needed I just start up the game and its at 100% GPU use the moment I leave the character select screen and load into the game.
2. Ive done clean installs using DDU
3. Tried fixing both graphics and sound drivers
4. Tried overclocking, underclocking, but changing anything from the standard settings only makes the error occur faster.
GPU performance change before and after you started having the issue: 1% before and
straight up to 100%
GPU: RTX 2080TI Phoenix
Driver Version: 430.39 (has happened with many prior drivers as well)
CPU: intel i9 9900k
RAM: 16 GB
Hard Drive: Samsung Evo 970 M.2 1TB Drive
OS: Win 10 Pro 64 Bit
OS Version: 1809 (Build 17763.379)
Graphics Settings: Happends with both ultra and lowest settings
FPS Limit: (System Configuration > Display Settings > FPS Limit) tried without V-sync, 50,60 and 100FPS limited. doesn't matter.
At first when i changed FPS from 100 to 60 it did work fine for 3days straight. then it started crashing like crazy. fragmenting, bluescreen, blackscreen ..
All Direct x Fatal error 11000002
only change i made prior to the issue was getting a new Widescreen: Acer x34p
Worked fine for some reason with the old one, which was a standard 32" tv from samsung..

High GPU Usage
so this started happening to me near the start of the year, i thought it was my Graphics card on my Riser Cable that was having the issue, i spoke to Nvidia to try and fix it as my GPU Usage was hitting 98-100% causing the game to have lag issues, they tried to help with uninstalling my GPU completely and reinstalling it didnt work, i spoke to ASUS they couldnt help and then spoke to my retailer who took my 1080TI for testing didnt find the fault but offered me a new RTX 2080 to see if that fixes it, so i uninstalled my GPU completely again and installed the latest drivers for the RTX 2080 and still have the issue.
so my 1080TI and now my RTX 2080 both have this high GPU Issue, if i limit my FPS down to 60 my GPU Usage drops like a stone and stays around 45%, Uncapped like i use to (FPS around 140 @ 2560*1080) my GPU hits 98-100% even on 1080p its 98-100%, there has to be something wrong here or the game isnt liking the Nvidia drivers
CPU: Intel Core i7 8700k @ 4.5GHZ (Overclocked)
GPU: (Previous) Asus Strix GTX 1080ti OC, (Now) Asus Strix RTX 2080 OC
Motherboard: Asus Maximus X Hero
Ram: 16GB G Skill DDR4
SSD: 500gb Samsung Evo 860 m.2 (game installed here)
Cooler: Custom Water Cooler (temps dont even hit above 45 Degrees C)
Nvidia Driver: always up to date so right now its 431.36
now the funny thing is before i built this PC i had a 4th gen i7, 16gb ddr3, msi gaming 3 board and a msi gtx 970, and i never had this issue lol, i ran the game on maximum with that and never once had an issue, i run the game maximum on here and get very high gpu usage on 2 cards that ive tried but now i have to cap my FPS in order to play without delays to skills and such
hope some of this info helps figure it out cause id like to uncap my FPS again without my GPU having a hissy fit and put my monitor back to 144hz while playing 14, i don't like having to limit my monitor and pc when it should literally laugh at what needs using

Any new info from the Dev's regarding this issue? I am getting up to 82C in game. I have zero issues in other games. Drivers are updated etc etc. I have tried different Fan profiles and nada, zich, nothing works. My PC blows pretty much everything out of the water except FFXIV GPU high Temps.
