This really does seem like blunt ignorance. If you're fine with how BLM underperforms and it's "fun" to you being in as bad a state as it is, more power to you. However, your ignorance of the issues in a thread analyzing said issues isn't actually contributing anything of value.

Every class has a purpose in every party, even BLM. To say that, they have no real purpose in a party shows blunt ignorance and is only base opinion and shouldn't be taken to discourage those who play BLM or want to play BLM. Could BLM be improved? Of course, but I don't think it's extremely necessary. I BLM myself and I don't have issues with my own personal damage. It's one of my strongest jobs.

Also, you must understand these posts are not about dick waving contests, they're about achieving the best possible job balance for everyone. There is nothing more selfless than that. People put in hours of work to help with achieving that goal.

Most of savage and extreme fights have mechanics called "DPS checks" and "Enrage". If the party isn't dealing enough damage, it will result in a wipe. These filthy damage meters allows us to know what is our actual DPS, and so, to improve. If we deal more damage, the fight is shorter, and so, easier (less mechanics to deal with).

So, if you don't know how much damage you are dealing, how can you improve ? What you suggest is to just get better gear, melds or food to progress, but practice and knowledge of the class is also a very big factor in your DPS. And loving a class does not prevent you from playing it poorly, no matter good your gear is.

Now, BLM's purpose is, and is only destruction. BLM's kit is only raw damage. It brings nothing to the party except damage and an AoE limit break. So, if damage is the only purpose of BLM, why shouldn't we measure how much damage a BLM is actually dealing ?

Highly offtopic, but could you consider adding in slashing debuff? I know you did something similar where you split disembowel contribution in case there are multiple DRGs. Asking because theres a high stigma against SAM where people wont take it even when they are the only source of slashing.

I am worried SE might miss the mark with BLM. I love BLM and played it since BETA and even to this day. I am of the opinion that number buffing is a must but not enough, fundamental changes to the job needs to happen in order to get this right. @Usho, I do not think that getting good gear, getting good at playing the job, and eating proper food is enough. I do not raid but even I can see how the flow of even dungeon bosses move sets are not designed with casters in mind, not only that. Perfect play is not rewarded properly to BLM, our only support skill native to us (APOC) has been added to the role class skill section. Using these role abilities is currently difficult and situational for BLM (certain stances are best to use certain skills...looking at you mana shift). We can chose from those as BLM but in SB, I personally noticed that BLM is punished to severely, getting to many procs can be a DPS loss from what I have learned and having taken a look at my own DPS personally (thought I should do this to get a better understanding).

BLM should therefore natively have the number to make up for the lack of DPS party utility. However currently it does not. As mentioned previously, I do not raid but I know the proper rotation of SB BLM, I do research the job and practice as frequently as time allows but looking at dummy parses for BLM compared to other jobs is sad. BLM is a turret and currently, the job cannot do that properly via damage. Just look at SMN/SAM and look at BLM. Having leveled all of the DOM classes to max and acquired a fundamental understanding of the mechanics of each magical job, it is plain to see this job needs to be addressed. I feel that, to make claims about getting good at playing the job, eating proper food, and getting better gear is incorrect in a thread where players gather to bounce ideas of balance about a job who has been lacking for a while now.

Its high time this job was addressed. I like blowing stuff up but what’s the point if my explosions are nothing but puffs of smoke disguised by parlor tricks. Give me explosions and the power to match, SE! Just my opinions though please correct me if I am wrong.

I agree would be extremely interesting to know the exact possible rdps that a SAM can provide via slashing

You guys still don't get it. Everyone knows blm is in a weak state. It will change, it ALWAYS does. I'm with that usho cat, cringe material+1 reading a lot of this. I do understand stats don't lie but if you have a group that can clear top tier content, then does it really matter? Unless you're going for world records then do yourselves a favor and stop worrying about it. I promise you that at the end of the day it will burn you out. Walls of text hurts the eyes btw.
