What could be the next DPS?

I could see geomancer as more of a tank... some sort of beastmaster/blue mage, dancer, rune knight, time mage, green mage I can see... cavalry would be cool, mounted on chocobo using lance and shield and able to use choco-ball, choco-meteor, choco kick and choco-beak, not a pet class...

I'm mostly hoping for DNC and/or BLU for the next round of new DD jobs, whenever that may be.

I kinda hope they don't add BLU tbh.. I feel they will butcher it like they did SMN. Meaning, the class will be nothing like it has been in other FF games that they are beloved for. SMN in this game is really more of a DoT class then a Pet class.

And the fact that they will likey have to force BLU into a role AND they will likely not learn anything from beasties and instead have a class quest to kill a specific mob for that specific skill. I think it would leave a sour taste in too many peoples mouths.

If Geo's been mentioned in both WHM and AST quests...we're probably going to get it as the next healer. Same way in xi blue mage kept getting name dropped in Chains of Promathia, then we got it the next expansion.

While I totally agree they would "butcher" the job, likely, I'd be surprised if they never ever add BLU. Before HW launched Yoshi-P said something about acknowledging that BLU is a very, very popular job and they got lots of requests for it, they just had to figure out how to implement the job. It might not get added to the game, I suppose, but man I'd be shocked.

Interesting and odd. The devs did say a job they wanted to do Mystic, basically an eastern themed healer (called Oracle in Final Fantasy Tactics.) In Final Fantasy V Japanese version it's called a Prophet, something that seems to align perfectly with that. It just didn't make the cut.

I wonder if the reference is just leftover from early plans, and if so, if Geomancer is just a translation mistake.

Either way, having an NPC with a job in game use a X or Y skill is not that meaningful. Alisaie Leveilleur was a Red Mage, yet we saw use skills no red mage has for quite a while. Hell, in the Stormblood SCH quest we still see the Marauder/Warrior lala sidekick still use Bloodbath, even if it's a DPS role skill.

Thing is FF Jobs don't really play nicely with a role system after an initial few. Especially when this game actively avoids support roles.

So all you can really do is look at job history in FF, what had high representation throughout the series and roll the dice. Outside of them discarding Thief, we've gone through all of what you'd probably call "A" list jobs with Samurai and Red Mage now in place. We'd probably move onto wider interpretations of the more of the "B" tier with jobs like Beastmaster, Blue Mage, Dancer, Geomancer, etc.

Beastmaster seems very logical to me as it's one of the more prominent jobs and the game probably needs another pet class. One that should actually be a pet class, unlike Summoner.

Dancer also seems like it makes sense, especially since depending on what franchise entry you're looking at it could be DPS, Healing or even an Evasion Tank.

New jobs I'm hoping for are

- Dancer (healer with melee attacks; has heals that also do damage and weaponskills that also heal)
- Beastmaster / Shaman (tank, melee or physical ranged with the ability to "tame" beasts to obtain their cosmetic appearance for the companion; has weaponskills that make the pet perform an attack; Shaman is a spirit themed alternative whose companion is the spirit of a great beast and who could inflict debuffs)
- Shapeshifter / Druid (tank, melee or caster who fights in a beast form similar to a werewolf or WoW Druid; would use nature-based magic if it were a caster; has control over weather for beneficial effects or healing support)

The nature-based archetype is completely missing in this game, since Archers become Bards instead of Rangers/Hunters and the three Mages channel magical elements instead of utilizing a connection with nature. I'm not sure which FF job would best suit a nature theme but I'd like something similar to a Beastmaster or Shapeshifter. I don't care about the weapons very much. As an example Dancer could dual wield folding fans, Beastmaster could dual wield axes and Shapeshifter could wield a talisman.
