New possible race

Maybe it is a Third beastman tribe - probably the red fenrir we see in the video. hrm

While I would be most pleasantly surprised if this was indeed a new playable race, I do doubt it and lean more towards it being Garleans in masks.

The Garlean Legions are heavily inspired by ancient Roman armies with Optio's, Centurions and Legatuses ( all Garlean troop types, two of which we can fight in the game right now ) all being part of a Legion. Part of earlier roman legions were the 'Velites', Lightly armoured skirmishers that fought ahead of the main force, these men were known to wear Wolf pelts into battle, see below.

Should it prove to be a new race though, i'm all for that! :)

If these become playable I'd play these forever.

I know this was way back on page 2, but quite frankly, FF XIV's races as a whole have been "nasty"-fied. Furries aren't the only fetish group out there. Rule 34 exists for a reason.

If you go frame by frame ( hotkey . and , ) the face could be a simple mask but there appears to be a slight animation to them (sort of a subtle breathing idle) and undoubtedly the tail moves. So while it might be a disguise/transformation I'm not sure it is a simple mask like our chocobo, or other beast tribe masks.

Besides being a possible beast tribe, or animated mask (I'm down for some Majora Mask item(s) SE lol), I wonder if it is a primal curse/transformation of some sort, mostly because we also have the primal wolves mounts coming up too. Like the people in the Shiva quest line that went dragon, except this transformation isn't as extreme, it appears at least - still wearing equipment and standing upright.

If is a new playable race it could be a male only race to counter a Viera all female race. (Considering even though male vieras do exist we only have ever seen females in any ff game ever.)

Im hoping they learned their lesson with the female roes and the male miqo'te; that people who like certain races would also possibly like to have a male and a female counterpart.

Everyone seems to see a new race, I see the possibility of them being some sort of cursed/ possessed, Garlean soldiers, who may have dealt with powers they didn't understand. I say this because the are specifically wearing Galrlean armor and wielding Doman weapons.

On second thought could those be Maki weapons? If so the idea of them being possessed is even more likely due the lore of Garo being heavily grounded in spiritual/ demonic themes.

I am sceptical that they are likely to be a playable race. One of the core issues with Beast tribes as WoL is that Beast tribes would be likely to naturally face a lot of discrimination that the WoL avoids. I mean have we met a single Beast tribe adventurer ever apart from the one we ourselves trained?
