What you tell your friends is always dependent on your own perspective.
I tell my friends FFXIV is becoming a great game. I'm not growing bored with it.
And it's not a game you only play for free, I'm fine paying for it, because I know I won't get bored for a very long time.
If you get bored after one week, you're doing it wrong.
really hate pl'ing, can care less bout peoples "friends" they want to burn threw levels for, or people who just want to do endgame and skip all the progress prior to it. pl'ing destroys a mmo for me, progress is all i care about outside of gearing my classes ..threw dungeons and nm's not crafting by the way.
i ran from wow in like 2months cause the zones were already empty by time i tried it and went right back to ffxi. warhammer grinds were the same for long time, just zoom to 40 in like a week or less and then your just in the top tier pvp, hell u don't even need to do dungeons in that game no more, they sell the gear at vendors so you can completely skip it..(yaay)
granted i got all my 50's in 8man leves when they were good and it was just as boring as i see the pl'ing is now. if they don't fix it by time 2.0 is out and new classes are added i can guarantee i won't stay. i'm not here to log in 3times a week for a dungeon and log out few hours later feeling like i accomplished something (guess what u didn't) 90% of u copy pasted someone elses work let alone probably just part of a group that is doing all the thinking for you.
and like others said i'll go jump in a korean grind fest mmo b4 i let this "generation lazy idiots" decide my game play cause every little 17-20 year old likes to spend every penny they have on entertainment while real adults can't even get insurance and health care or a job. (not speaking of me by the way, just and obvious observation)
down with pl'ing ...its a horrendous part of the game. might as well be charging us a monthly for any and all games that come out online or offline cause that is all it is then. make it all more dynamic ..less grindy, more entertaining for all, don't give us a way to skip it..everyone will skip it then, i know i wouldn't ever not use the easiest way to the top. /oh wells.
Difference between this game and other MMO's is you have to level multiple jobs to be competitive (at least for now...). A guy coming into the game fresh and being told he has to level 4-5 different jobs for their skills is going to feel intimidated unless the leveling is at a decent pace.
The arguments that a plvled character won't know his job is pretty lulz worthy. You don't learn the basics in a grind party. You'll learn them in a dungeon or the Ifrit fight. Grind parties are just as fast killing mobs as a single plvl.
As said before the severe lack of content is what is killing the game, not power leveling. One primal fight every 2-3 months till 2.0 is not what I'd exactly call exciting to look forward to for a year.
Funny thing is, you can't have an MMORPG without grinding, since the only reason MMOs survive is by incoporating a grind of some kind.
Yes MMOs lately also love handing people things on a silver platter for no work, let alone getting a bonus for NOT playing their game, but grinds exist in every MMO, it's simply something you do over and over.
This is the problem with MMOs today because it's double edged -- They want to get to endgame asap then they want a ton of content to do, no developer can please this mentality without adding in a grind, otherwise you blow through content then you have to sit and wait for new content to be released -- This is why they always double/triple up on "go here and kill 10 boars" type quest content, to use as filler till their next Raid/Dungeons/Bosses are released. This is why Rift got popular, no one can deny that rifts aren't basically all the same, therefore you're literally grinding rifts when not doing PvP stuff.Quote:
The average casual MMO player doesn't want to wait 2 months to be able to do endgame content
MMO devs these days are better at masking grinds, as they're not longer "hey you need 89,000,000 exp for next level, get to it!" in your face grinds, even EVE has grinds, your MMO can't survive on just "make the content fun" alone, since once you've done it and depleted all of its loot and need to wait for next content to be released...then what? This is why they focus on PvP as well, because people deplete content at astonishing speeds these days.
I'm in the camp of enjoying Exp parties as well, since the journey is just as much fun and rewarding as getting to the end and doing raid content since if your MMO has a good community setup, it's a lot more rewarding overall since the major complaint about gaming today is that there's no longer a journey, it's just start > finish almost instantly.
Yeah, rushing to max level really blocked off a bunch of content for people. If only we had a system where you could level multiple classes, I bet it wouldn't really be an issue...
well imo it depends on what kind of end contents implemented from now.
PvP ,PvE , if that's all , this game can die..
i know you are assuming that PL'ing killing the game.
but if end content had enjoyable thing like months?
i know rank 1-40 needs more fan , but if end contents had something to hold more players ,
PL'ing couldn't be so problem.
i mean , we get bored in end content , in 1 month , that way sounds like more bigger problems than PL'ing itself..i think
This is true in all MMOs and why they incorporate a grind. MMOs these days are designing content to be short lived yet dumping a ton of copy/pasted content, i.e yes MMO A has 12,800 quests, but can you say with absolutely certainty they're all unique quests? No repeats?
This is exactly why developers do it and why they're getting better at just hiding the fact x content is a grind, because they make it such an easy grind you don't count it as much, much like people didn't think Guild Marks were a timesink because they're fairly easy to acquire.
