Locking Emote behind Potentially $100 Statue

This isn't a complaint towards the emote being tied to the statue though, this is a complaint towards SE's poor management of supply and demand. Hopefully this is why they are opening pre-orders for the statue, so they can actually gauge numbers before it goes on sale, which is a sensible thing to do for something like this (I don't think any of the plushes/artbooks/soundtracks had pre-order periods)

It kind of seems like it's about someone who wanted to humblebrag that they'll be buying a $130 statue of Odin to compliment the dragon statue they already have, and they casually asked SE to not make the emote code that comes with the statue able to expire, for the collectors less fortunate than himself, of course. Because we all need to know that someone, somewhere, has every collectible irl that gives content in-game.

Many completionists will get this statue Im sure of that.

Im not one for clutter and knick knacks around the home so will pass on this one.

It is a very pretty statue though, not saying it isnt!!! But that much $ for a dust collector and an emote I would never use...nope.

Ok let me rephrase it the thread turned into people being upset that SE is locking emotes (in game content) behind a RL paid item.

By the way I'm not one of them I could care less about the emote, as I'd be buying it for the statue if were going to buy it.

Oh I didn't think you were one of them, I was just commenting on the tone the OP's post created for the thread lol. I'm not very worried about the fluff that comes with the collector's items either, as long as they aren't giving out functional (as in, raid gear ilv) gear then I don't care. It's a shrewd marketing technique as the bonuses will often push people to actually make the purchase when they otherwise wouldn't, but it just isn't a valuable purchase for me, either.

I don't think I'll ever be able to understand why people would spend hundreds on a lump of carved plastic. Or is this thing made of metal?

Then again, I did spend £350 on a tattoo and plan to spend more money on more tattoos...

And I guess it's better than spending 400+ on a pair of ugly sneakers when you don't even know how to dunk a hoop...

Something a lot of people are missing is that SE doesn't add these in-game items to physical products just to be nice. It's a marketing move to get more people to buy that product JUST for the in-game item. It's not so bad when the products are of a reasonable price, but this emote is basically going to be limited to solely the players who have a lot of money IRL and that is exactly what a subscription-based MMO is supposed to avoid.

As far as anyone in game is going to be concerned that's a $120 emote. Whether you spent the money JUST for the emote or not is irrelevant; the only way to get it is to spend $120 and that's going to exclude a pretty vast number of the player base from ever hoping to buy it even if they wanted it.

What's stopping someone from purchasing it, keeping the statue and selling the code for a fraction of the price? Or gifting the code to someone else?

SE will keep pulling stuff like this the more people buy into this type of marketing gimmick.This is what flagrant cash shop support begets us. This is what the majority of you supported, now revel in your rewards.

Also, lets be real, that $130 statue will be the same plastic hunk of junk that the HW CE statue turned out to be. You would be one of the lucky ones if your statue actually showed up well painted, not warped, and able to mount it's thin plastic shell of a base.

The sad thing is you can get all four of those for less than the price of the odin statue.

People are literally going to over pay close to $90 for a figurine that is no better than the illidan figure, and for what? An emote? lol.

I don't care if you call me a whiner but when I saw that, I just really got sick and tired of SE's current business tactic.

Having to buy a ton of expensive things to somehow..maybe(!) get the promotion codes for the maid/butler outfit, putting any new outfit into the CS instead of ingame obtainable,
dropping veteran rewards but instead SOMEHOW suddenly a new outfit that 100% fits the veteran reward theme (FFX) shows up as an additional reward for buying overpriced (stream-)tickets,
obtaining all minions in game is pretty much impossible because half of them are part of some merchandise,
and now minions and glamour and mounts aren't enough, even emotes are locked behind an extra paywall.

SE is milking us like cows and it's just really getting out of hand >.>
Not to mention that the statue is by far not worth that price, you can get carefully hand-painted and whatever for way less with other companies, just saying =_=°

And yes, $130 is a big deal for a lot of people.
I understand that SE is a company and their goal is to make money, I'm not asking for anything stupid like "People with less money should get the same stuff as those with a lot" or whatever, don't misunderstand.
But we all pay for the same game. I don't see why it's acceptable to lock half the content behind additional payments.
What's next, a third dungeon option for expert roulette if you buy the lore book or something like that? :rolleyes:
