We're getting stat allocation back in 1.20, right?

i hope it does not come back and they keep working on the new system the old system should stay dead.

I don't want stat allocation back. It only gives the illusion of choice. Every game that has a stat allocation system has had people math up the "best" way to do it, after which any other way is considered "n00bish". This game already has shown signs of FFXI's problem with having "best" classes for fights, where if you play other classes you'll have trouble with invites. Now add parties demanding certain stat builds on top of that.

Since everyone will expect a certain build, all stat allocation will really do is make it harder for new players to get into the game, and that's the very last thing this game needs. It's been a year of working on accessibility, and this is still one of the least accessible MMOs I've ever seen.

when a character/hero grow, it is not only the attack that grow, but over all. WHy you complain about PIE !?

Stat allocation for each job separately would be pointless, they may aswell add a little to the current stats because everyone would do the same thing.

I'd prefer that they not bring manual point allocation back. I like the system how it is currently.

How is it pointless ? It allows players to adjust there character for many reasons. It allows players to have more freedom for playstyle and personal preferences. Some people like there character to have more surviveability and feel it suits them better to do less damage. They may feel tha if they can out last the enemy with there survivability, that they can wear the enemy down and conquer.

Others may want to be all damage out put and minimul defence/health. A glass cannon if you will. Others may want to pump up certain stats to specialize there class/job into more defined aspects. Whats to stop any player from doing all this? Keeping the system as it is, auto alocating stats so we have no choice but to be statistically identical. The only variation at that point is gear/materia. Which offeres very little variation. So much materia is limited to certain slots, restricting ones ability to stack one stat or another.

This games greatest apeal to some, is the armory system, and the fact that they have freedom to move fluidly from one clas to another, developing there character as they desire by leveling various classes and customizing there ability bar. Why should our ability to do so with stats be oppossingly restricted?

one problem with stat allocation is casual players. players that are not sure what stats have what effects, all these ppl will do is put all there points on to increase their HP, coz they can see that, that has changed something. also what about the new jobs. you want to put points on to prepare for a job that your not exactly sure of its purpose. i.e. is monk going to be and evade tank or a dps? no1 really knows so how would you put the points on?

It depends really. If they manage to create an environment where 2-3 builds are very close to each other competency-wise then that means there are 2-3 different ways to specialize stat-wise. More than that would be stretching it, and even having it be this way for every class/job is far-fetched, but not impossible.

That would have to mean there would have to be different ways to use the actions too I think or at least the actions would need to have various special characteristics you could enhance through the usage of different stats. Otherwise surely the community would figure out only one correct build which everyone would have to use. We need to have different options for this to work.

It is true that manual allocation is not very optimal system in the sense that for proper specialization there is a lot of work to be done on the community side, and it is easy to "screw up" at least in theory. However it is not entirely without benefits and it can provide means of meaningful specialization. I think the most important issue they will have to avoid is to not penalize players for doing it "wrong", so the requirements for re-allocating should probably not be too strict. In that way I find the old re-allocation system to function quite well in this new environment where builds are class-specific. It was too restricting in the old system, but it would make more sense the way the current mechanics are set up, as it is doubtful that you would ever have to re-allocate a lot if not all points at time.

So at the end of the day the manual allocation system will make us work a bit too hard for results that may not be worth it but the benefits are there, so it is not a completely useless system, just inefficient. One thing to remember as well is that the Japanese community works in an entirely different way to the Western community in that they are far less likely to impose restrictions on their players based on competency. As long as you can do the job properly you are free to allocate points and choose abilities as you wish. They will gain far more from this feature than we will.

Seriously?

If a player is incapable of learning what the stats do to benefit them, they are probably in capable of learning how to load the game and log in.

The Stats were adjustable. There is no reason to believe they will not be upon reimplimentation.
