'' Oversexualized '' in the context of what?
I really hate how people use this term and throw it around every time.
'' Over '' sexualized implies that it's over some line, the only good way I can think of actually judging this in a less arbitrary way is to judge it based on the setting and not irl personal puritan standards.
Red Sonja running around in a loincloth isn't '' oversexualized '' because that's how the setting is in the Conan setting people often/ usually dress after that Barbarian archetype and so does Conan himself ( not always, both Conan and Red Sonja have had different designs at times ).
Red Sonja fits perfectly in that setting she's just in line with how people dress in the setting.
But Red Sonja would be oversexualized in Game of Thrones and so would Conan.
FFXIV is a fictional world with fictional norms, no one bats an eye at this in FFXIV it's clearly not considered wrong or shocking.
Something being sexualized in and of itself isn't OVERsexualized, that word has no actual meaning in how people throw it around.
It's especially frustrating how people use it because it also feels like people are trying to moralize and imply that something is '' problematic '' because they say so and don't personally approve of it.
In EW there's a scene where people are gathering for something ( not gonna spoil ) and you have two Viera walking in who are wearing their cultural attire, and it's not treated as sexual at all no one even bats an eye or reacts to it at all.
It's just treated as normal in the setting so how can it be over the line in any sort of real way that actually matters in this context?
