It's a taboo word to a lot of people, not just the devs. These forums bring up the argument against random mechanics a lot as well. A popular one with the endgame crowd, particularly in regards to newer content and world firsts, is how random mechanics can make one groups run a complete cake walk compared to another. As they put it, it would be unfair to have such a thing happen simply because of RNG. The community, as always, is divided on the matter.

And again the "Balanced raid enviroment" holds back the game. This mentality holds back customization of classes, skills, equipment stats and horizontal progression. I really wish they'd drop this idea in this game, but it's just a pipe dream too, so I can only hope that the next FF MMO won't follow the same way.

Catch up patch ALWAYS gives loot equal to the latest tier raid loot. In 3.2 the raid loot will outstrip the welfare loot. And in 3.3 the welfare loot will pull casuals back up to raid geared folks. This happens every time and every time someone squeals like this is some new and horrible thing.

@OP Anyone that's jumping into Lv.60 content for the first time in 3.1 does have content tiers to deal with. Even people who have been playing since 3.0 have had content tiers to mess around with.

i145 to i170 Neverreal / Fractal — Dungeon Tier 1
i170 to i185 Pharos HM / Arboretum — Dungeon Tier 2

i165/i175 Bismarck Extreme / Ravana Extreme — Trials Tier 1
i190+ Thordan Extreme —Trials Tier 2

i170 - i190 Alexander Normal — Raid Tier 1
i190 to i210 Alexander Savage — Raid Tier 2

i180+ Diadem — Horizontal Raid Tier 2

The only strange aspect of the current progression is the Diadem in that you can enter it without completing the Tier 1 raid i.e. Alex normal. There's nothing wrong with players having the option to farm gear that will help them with more difficult content because really, even if the Diadem didn't exist, people would be getting their "easy upgrades" via the Void Ark and Hunts.
