Have we gone too far?

This game is great, very accessible, easy to get into yet takes some effort to master. So many things to do, and to explore. Easy to solo, log and play, you can do half the content without needing the help of others. A few ways to play, to suit your need, and your time. Duty finder is a blessing (and a curse as well...). The bottom line is this, it is all about the players, and the people in your server clusters. Country makes a big difference as well, when it comes to culture, and what it means to be a human being.

And i get what that person meant by solo. Yes, definition of solo is alone. But, we are talking about mmo. We know what this person meant. Yes, you can "solo" relic weapon. You don't have to make friends, plan time to do it, work with someone constantly. You can be a recluse, hermit and do relic quest. That is what this person meant. Hell, you don't even have to talk to anyone else to do relic. Thats why SE added DF to game, so people wouldn't feel like they have to search and communicate and interact with people more than necessary just to play this game. They made this game with the ability to solo content. You couldn't do this in FFXI. You had to pair up, had to ask for help, ask for teleport, ask for escort to zone, ask for help and healing when traveling alone. You can do about 90% of this game so far with out having to make friends or joining an FC or LS. It is what it is.

It was annoying in late FFXI when people would refer to things as being soloable, which made me think I could solo them, but when I'd go to look up a strat I'd find out they actually meant they did it by themself while playing as two characters at once.

Soon, we will be getting NPCs that we can take to dungeons so we no longer need other players and all DPS can solo from lvl 1-50 and be utterly clueless on how to play their rotation and what it is expected from a DPS. FFXI has these Trust NPCs to help the lower levels since that game is very top heavy at the moment.

Mindless grind is pinacle of nolife hikokomori. You are not better in any way, anybody can do many of the thing op stated. Majority just get bored very soon if its too repetitive. After all this is supposed to be a game, something that relaxes your mind, get you blood pumping in a while. I have yet to see a mmorpg where you could do things from get go. No utter idiocy called time sink required in aquiring a better gear, where its all player, just your skill. In this era where there is softargeting and skill always land and accurasy is based on rng, no mmorpg ever has been yet made till this day where endgame, middlegame and startgame is any different in except stats of the gear you are wearing. Thats all.

I consider the mercenary system a good one to help new players progress through low level content. FFXI has such a system if I recall from back when I played it too. WoW I think has also introduced a mercenary system I believe though I haven't played that in a decade. I do not believe it will make players clueless about anything using mercenaries at lower levels. I think your comment about that aspect is a bit melodramatic to be honest.

In regards to the OP: the image of a theme-park styled experience works, if that's what they were going for. For me it's no on 98% of your points.

I have no desire to play a game where it takes me nearly a year, or longer, just to get to max level on one single class. I've been there. I've done that. Twice. With original EverQuest back in the day and vanilla areas of WoW (pre-Cataclysm).

What we have here is a case of "Special Snowflake Syndrome".

I agree that system is great to help lower level players, and shield them from rude abusing behavior commonly found on duty finder party. The clueless players syndrome however, will become a major thorn on this feature and you will soon see countless of threads here complaining about it. It is the same issue that plague FFXI when everyone is able to leech to 99 in matter of hours, and endgame is suddenly flooded with a bunch of clueless players. Granted if one is serious about their role, these players will wiki everything, read forum, watch youtube videos, test their rotations, and fully ready and know what to expect when they hit level 50. Assuming every newbies are like that however is like hoping for a unicorn and double rainbows lol.

Because the hardcore games like Wildstar did exceptionally well...

Oh wait.

Albeit there are a couple things I missed, the list drafted stinks of FFXI wishes. Just the tone I get when I read it. And to those who say "worst reply ever" when one answers "go back to FFXI", no offence, but that's exactly how I felt reading the OP's post too. Everything he describes is FFXI to a tee.
