Have you ever talked to a person with no gaming experience about FFXIV?

All the old people in my family, save for my aunt, thinks video games are evil and that only sad people who hate life play them. Of course in reality I am very happy. Love my job and my gaming life. : P

Anyway...

My aunt walks in while I am in titan extreme.

Aunt: HOLY CRAP THAT THING IS HUGE!
Me: That's what she said.

cant let this thread die
everytime i go back home to visit family my niece watches me play. usually goes like this;
me gathering or hunting.
niece: what you doing?
me: im going after a monster.
niece: bring out the big chicken.
i change mounts.
niece: stop moving and jump only(loves the jump animation for the fat chocobo)
me:ok "starts jumping"
party:hey, you coming to this hunt?
me:cant, too busy jumping for my niece.
cant even think of how many i missed for it, but no regret

Yep that would be me also lol. Friends play wow or some flavor of the month fps. Cracks me up when someone is surprised that I pay 15 bucks a months for a game then they go out and spend 5 bucks on a cup of coffee lel.

Me: Playing Nintendo

My mother: ok

Anything beyond that is not understood by her, even though I have explained it many-many times.

Dad: hey there, which game is this?
Me: FFXIV
Dad: Oh. Does this one have a Satellite Beam? (Dad asks this question whenever he sees me playing an RPG)
Me: Actually, it does! (shows Level 1 Caster LB)
Dad: Haha, it's about time they brought that back.

I love my dad.

Co-worker: Got plans for the weekend?
Me: Booooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkssssssssssss.
Co-worker: You actually going to read instead of playing that dumb game?
Me: No, there are books that have objectives and it makes my weapon stronger.
Co-worker: You need to go outside.
Me: The dayball hurts my skin and eyes.

After showing a pic of my character:
Co-worker: She's pretty! ...why the hell are you a girl?
Me: I don't want to be stuck watching the backside of a man. Plus I find it more fun to dress them up.

my mom was visiting one day and saw an FC mate mount his golden magitek armor. She was like "why is a horsefly in your game?" Now I can only think of magitek mounts as horseflies.

I told the truth to a guy at the pub once about my gaming hobbies and hilarious awkwardness ensued.

Guy: So what do you like to do for fun?

Me: (Ponders telling the truth or not.) I like to play a game called ffxiv.

Guy: Um...what?

Me: Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn. It's an mmo.

Guy: Wth is an 'mmo'?

Me: Massive Multiplayer Online game? You've heard of World of Warcraft I'm sure. It's like that but waaay more adorable.

Guy: You're joking right?

Me: No. It's super fun. I have a level 50 white mage and I get to do dungeons with friends and family online and pretend like I'm a pretty princess super hero.

Guy: Um, how can that be a hobby? That's like saying you play mario all day. What ELSE do you do with your free time?

Me: Well, I like photoshop. I even have a tumblr dedicated to photoshop edits of my final fantasy adventures.

Guy: (Slowly inches away)

Me: (Wearing aethereal raptorskin subligar for the stats) Hmm what to do now, dum de dum dum...
my 70 year old stepmom wandering by: Ooh, nice subligar!
Me: o.o -.- O.O

This didn't happen to me but my room mate so I don't have full details, in summary though:

Room Mate: Explains general workings of the game to an older co-worker.
Co Worker: Oh, so it's basically like a facebook game then! :D
