ATMA: the worst thing ever made on A Realm Reborn

Atma experience so far for Dragoon:

All twelve stones in around eight hours of fate grinding. (That got my dualbox CNJ to WHM :p)
First book in around two hours of actual play, and around four hours of waiting for 'Giant Steps' and 'The Enmity of my Enemy' to pop. (That got MAR to WAR and ARC from 20th to 25th.)

Should note, 'The Enmity of my Enemy' popped twice in that time, but I failed the first attempt as I was solo and East was full of lowbies and 50th's running beast tribes, so the Fate scaled and the NPC died in seconds after I fell over.

So far, I'm not finding the experience too bad, and I'm very much a casual, roulette-only for grouping kinda guy. I'd much rather this, than the no-life route of set groups for Coil etc. And there is a fair sense of achievement there after finishing that first book. I can't say I'm hesitant about getting on with the next one at all.

Done two Animus weapons and overall preferred the ATMA part to the myth grind Animus part which got annoying very quickly. At least with ATMA you are out in the world mixing with many different players instead of just 3 others running the same dungeons over and over and over and over until your eyes bleed and your head explodes.

I spend more time FATE farming for lucky Alexandrite drops than Myth farming, just run an extra couple to get to 800 myth when I'm close for another map.

Novus is good as there are multiple ways (more with 2.3) to progress it.

As a compromise they could add a weekly quest to complete x hundred FATEs, reward being an ATMA of your choice of the 12. So while you are hoping for a lucky drop you are still progressing to a guaranteed drop for that week.

Coming up on 2.3, and I'm still without a full set. This still sucks and RNG is still the worst way to do this.

And they are making Atma->Animus->Novus easier by increasing the mythology gains of everything yet again. Yoshi-P and the devs really have put no thought into how this directly helps those who got lucky yet slams a door in the face of those who are unfortunate. They are making the second and third steps easier to complete yet are not making any changes into the first and what should be the easiest step in the chain. Well played Yoshi, well played.

You could always do what I do when I am being harassed by a FATE. I report it as harassment to a GM with the subject FATE"Name of FATE" is harassing me. This is stupid and a HUGE time sink. We need to make sure the DEV's understand that tieing stuff like this to FATES is a horrible idea and tells us they are being lazy. If they intend to continue to tie things to FATE then we either need the option to pop the FATE ourselves OR set the timer on the FATE to come up at least once an hour. We need to also remind them that RNG are not a new concept and a HUGE waste of time. The ATMA drop rate is stupid. I would rather they have us do every high level dungeon at least one time to get an ATMA at least we would be helping people with their dailies and we would feel like we were working towards something instead of doing every FATE in the "hope" that it will drop to us this time. After trolling the same area for over 6 hours.

I don't mind a myth grind. At least there I can see progress. Do X amount of work get Y reward. That isn't a problem. The first step is the issue, not the subsequent ones.

Wait until you have to deal with the FATEs in the books. Never spawn, wait 2-15 hours for each, only to see it pop and someone rapes it in 2 minutes, then you have to wait hours upon hours again. Yes, it gets worse.

I can live with the RNG, but I've come to realize, it gets boring real fast when your last ATMA is in a zone (Central thanalan) that has a whole... ten... FATES to do over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

Before opting to make RNG a part of getting an ATMA weapon, the game's designers should've increased the number of FATES in each involved zone so it didn't get so mind numbingly boring so quickly. I'm doing ATMA grinding for the second time, and it will be the last time I imagine given the boredom.

48 hours and not a single damn atma! changing maps doesn't seem to do anything either!

You have people leaving the game because of how frustrating the collection of ATMA is.

These people sink hours into the game and some of them are the kinds of people who drop everything to help a friend out, so when they return to 'trying' to collect these items so that they may progress their characters the way they desire too, then getting absolutely NO drops after hours/days/weeks of grinding zones for fates; It is actually making some of them physically ill due to the complete lack of return for the time they have invested.

Fix it.
RNG should never have been utilised to get this stuff.

FWIW, i've been running around with a friend these last few weeks to help her get atma's, because tbh i don't give a crap about the weapon progress as much as i do the friends i make in the game; Last night over the course of 5 hours, I got not one, but 3 of the ATMA's that have been eluding her - while she got none.

She has been trying since May.

I felt terrible for her, especially since im not even going about it seriously, and only started getting them recently because i actually had the myth to do the Zenith upgrades. Its insulting to her that i now have 3 of these stupid progression items while shes got none after exactly the same amount of time in the area.


To all those saying its fine because you got them in X amount of time, Your contempt for other players is dripping from your greedy little mouths.
