While I've had my fair share of "bad runs", there were also times when I got a 12 or so minutes speed run where everyone went silent. Great tanks seem to figure out how much they can pull without saying a word.

Yeah, it can be annoying. Usually the tanks are in control of this though. Some of them will just run to the next room....and the next...and the next...and then they'll have like 15 mobs on them and be almost impossible for the healer to keep up, either because they're not adequately equipped, or weren't expecting it and are still catching up etc.
The irony being that by just rampaging ahead trying to rush everything, if anyone's new or whatever they're just making wipes likely which could make it more lengthy than the pace of an average run. You'd get it done quicker just by going at a steadier pace.
I actually got moaned at for being a Monk in WP by a BLM. Even though we finished it in decent enough time, about 15 mins? Okay, we can't AoE like a BLM/SMN/BRD, but I guess an extra 2-3 mins tops is unacceptable :P
Well, sometimes I do pull extra stuff on me as Scholar when I know I can take it to speed things up (like those two tonberries near flan minion). That said, I never expect the tank to grab hate on those mobs, and "tank" them myself.
It works just fine, and helps get some extra speed when the group in undergeared (yesterday I did that when I queued up with a full iLv55< group. No one complained, no one died, we cut a few minutes without overwhelming the tank, everyone wins).
Speedruns even being a thing is a result of:
- limited sources of Philo/Myth tomes
- limited time to complete instances (there's plenty by far, but even having a ticking timer there can be incentive to run it as fast as possible)
Former issue is being addressed, hopefully they also address the latter. I see no reason to limit instances to X minutes outside of possible instance server congestion.
I had a tank try to do this to me once on a DF run. He didn't say anything to the party and just ran ahead grabbing literally everything. After the second boss and rebuffing, he grabbed everything and hid in the corner and LoS-ed me and the rest of the party so he ended up dying and I was so stressed at this point because I hate speed runs, especially when they get surprised on me like this that I just rage quit the group without saying anything. =_=; If you're gonna speed run at least say something instead of assuming everyone can/ wants to do it.
A better way to deal with people forcing speed runs is to just go AFK esp if your the tank. They can try to 3 man it if they want but it will still take them longer, don't drop group, that's usually what they want, do it thier way or leave. If they're being jerks to get what they want just waste a bit of your own time and go do something else.
this is exactly what i do, if i join a group that is acting like douchebags i will just afk or leave. i main a healer so my queue times rarely exceed 10 minutes and i usually have time to burn if im going into a DF instance. go ahead act like tools, good groups are a dime a dozen for competent healers and i can find a new one before they have even had time to wipe the spittle from their mouths.
Haha that's what I do when I play as Tank. I usually go semi-SR speed though, and most players I have partied with are okay with it. If anyone wants the pure SR, they really should form their own respective party instead of assuming everyone in DF will go at their pace. Since the people complaining the run is not "fast enough" on here or on their own specific server, however, it's no wonder they can't create their own SR group. No one likes playing with d-bags or complainers haha.
You missed the symbolism of my point. I don't matter, but I represent a demographic of people who your attitude tries to alienate. I never said anything about not being able to handle whatever. Most of the time, it's people like me who make people like you even stand a chance at being the kind of player you are. People like me enjoy trying to see if we can save the day--is why I play a healer. But if I don't like your attitude, I will corrupt your good time. That's all. Carry on :)
