Really love the game, but your service forced me to quit.

If maintenance needs to happen in regards to some issues, I am all for it. However, it has gone to the extreme currently. I hope this is just to fix something that is necessary to knock out as soon as possible, but that is usually what Emergency Maintenance is for. Square-Enix should take advice from Blizzard and host one major maintenance time a week. Blizzard always does theirs on Tuesday morning, while most people in that region are asleep, school, or at work. It obviously isn't as simple as that with SE dealing with international servers, but they should definitely just make a once a week routine maintenance schedule. While I "understand" the maintenance, it is starting to get annoying that my FC events are being cut short due to it.

10 bucks if they stopped maintenance op would come back complaining for them to fix stuff.

My brother quit this game because he didnt like the idea of farming points in dungeons and having to play every week to cap them.

Anyways, I'm gonna agree with the people who say that I'd much rather have a few people quit over the maintenances being during their play time once-twice a week versus the servers overloading or whatever they're preventing with these maintenances. I remember a few friends from XI saying that they played WoW and they had similar weekly maintenances for a good chunk of time after major patches or expansions. It sucks, but it happens. so TL;DR you say you're quitting because there's a lot of maintenance. Unfortuantely, maintenance is necessary. If you can't accept that, there's a serious issue because every MMO has maintenances. The amount of maintenance will go down over time as patches are introduced. in FFXI, 10-15 hour mainteances after a patch (which itself had a maintenance to implement) were not unusual.

So posting this thread to say you're quitting tells me a lot more was bugging you than mainteance, or you're just trying to create drama. I doubt you "love the game" if you're actually quitting over this.

Setting up a PTR (a term used specifically by blizzard/WoW btw) requires significant time and resources and requires them to fork yet another branch of the game. PTRs are certainly a good thing, but remember that it will make patches take considerably longer, completely independent of whether there are bugs that need fixing.

While I wouldn't use rude language to convey my opinion to you, I do share their opinion- Every game has maintenances, and they are going to disrupt SOMBODY's play time no matter when they do them. to quit because of a necessary evil of operating an online service with imperfect software (no software is perfect) is just silly. Not complaining about it in any other MMO would make you hypocritical because other MMOs are still going to have maintenance that will affect you. Failing to do so would indicate that there is a lot more at work than the maintenances driving your decision.

Good riddance! I hope SE doesn't change their maintenance schedule to appease like 5 players from New Zealand. I'm perfectly happy with their maintenance schedule. It is to address issues mostly relating to latency. They do what they have to do to keep the game running smoothly without interfering with the playing schedule of Western players. If it means losing a few players here and there, then I'm all for it. After all, you can't please everyone.

Without reading most of the replies, I want to say that rotating the maintenance time would be fair. The maintenance is considerably late at night for me, so it's not as huge of a problem (though it is when I do tend to play more) as it is for our friends in New Zealand and Australia.

I also find it ironic that "emergency maintenance" is generally at the same time of day, which sort of implies that it is not really an emergency but somewhat scheduled. Clearly, maintenance is catered to folks in Japan working 9 to 5 or maybe to the employees who work on maintenance (perhaps they come in to work in the morning, spend half the day looking for bugs and thinking of fixes, and then the last half implementing them in the "emergency maintenance"). If that's the case, rotating maintenance time may require changing employee schedules, which is quite a hassle.

I really appreciate those of you that understand what me and thousand others are going through, It's great to see a portion of the community really put themselves in our shoes and understand what's going on... saying you don't care about those affected is immature and selfish, especially if you think only 5 or so people are affected by this issue, you are naive.

Coming home every 2 days to find the server down straight after work is a huge sub killer for many people. I have said countless times that I understand why maintenance needs to happen and I understand the game is still new and they are slowly working on bugs and serious in-game issues that need to be addressed. What you fail to grasp is the ramifications behind screwing the same people over and over. These "couple of hours" are turning into "days" for people that work and come home to no servers, you need to understand this.

Would you really pay £14.99 (20 dollars NZ) to lose 10-15 days a month? maybe you would, but I'm sure it would upset you and make you feel as though Square doesn't care about those players.

It's comments like this that make me cringe at the FF community in general, when did people become so selfish and entitled? It's clear by this statement alone that most people only care about themselves and if maintenance is perfect or them, screw the rest right?

Rotating the maintenance, like I have said multiple times, makes it balanced so the SAME PEOPLE aren't missing out. Once again, these "3-4 hours" is the only window available during prime-time straight after work. I got sick and tired of coming home after a long days work to find the game not available, why should I continue paying them if they don't care about me and many others?

If your cable tv stopped working every 2 days, would you call and complain?
If your cellphone signal dropped every 2 days, would you cancel and move to another provider?

I love the game and if they fix the problems I will obviously return... but for now, It's a wait and see approach.

You are lucky if maintenance doesn't screw you over, I really envy you.. but I would also appreciate it if you tried to understand where most of us are coming from.
