Been leveling up my ninja the past couple of days--managed to get her from level 30 to 45 since Friday, so, feeling pretty accomplished. Anyway, queue in to Dzemael Darkhold to try and get to 45 this evening. I was on NIN, FC mate was my co-DPS on BRD, tank was a PLD, and healer was an AST. The tank said that he was just coming back from a year-long break, and may be a bit slow at first, which is fine. I had no problems with that. Unfortunately, the healer...I'm not sure if they were lagging, were just a huge space-case, or didn't care, but they would let the tank's health drop super low before bothering to heal them. They claimed that they were new to AST, but they were almost level 50, and had both WHM and SCH to 60. I asked them if they would like any tips, since I know AST is kind of different from the other two healers with regards to managing card buffs, and all, but received no response. Instead they kind of just ran around in circles.

Anyway, we had several deaths through the dungeon. Not very pretty. I took a look at the healer's gear: mixture of mid-30 gear, with a couple 40+ pieces, and a couple 20+ pieces. Entire right side was the level 28/29 jewelry, and they were only wearing one ring: the Brand New Ring. Main hand was a level 41 aetherial globe. I was horrified. No wonder when they healed, it seemed like nothing was happening. :/ Of course, most of the time they seemed like they were AFK in the dungeon, so I was just like ????? It was awful.

We finally make it to the last stretch before the last boss, and my FC mate and I are dreading that fight already. The healer decided to stand in the timers while the tank was still killing mobs, and ended up dead, so of course the tank died, and then my FC mate followed soon after that. The tank had already mentioned that his gear was about to break after the first boss, so he bailed at that point, and I can't really say that I blamed him, given the healer. They were like "Really?" and my FC mate and I were just kind of like /shrug. Healer aggro'd a mob we missed, died, DC'd, and then my FC mate and I just left. Felt bad for the tank...what a crappy way to come back to the game after a year-long break.

Anyways, NIN is kind of fun. :> I did hit level 45, and I have all my little ninjutsu now, so I'm trying to memorize them. I got Huton down really quickly, but I am still working on memorizing the combinations for Suiton and Doton. Hopefully I'll get there though. :> I'm so used to using Raiton, I catch myself using it when I'm actually trying to do the combination for Suiton so I can get my Sneak Attack off. XD But, I'm sure I'll get it down eventually. :>

Also, completely unrelated side-note...some Au Ra kept circling around me on their mount while I was doing my Moogle quests. I'm not sure if they're a forum dweller, since I play with names turned off now unless you're in my party/on my friend's list, so I didn't say anything. It occurred to me that they may have recognized me from here and were saying hi, so, if that was the case: Hi! Sorry I didn't say hi back! D:

This saturday, I had a confusing run in Dzemeal Darkhold as well...
Tanking on my Laladin, friend joined as NIN, and had an mentor healer, and mentor DPS.
The mentor healer was awesome, together with my friends explaining every fight, what to watch out for and what to pull where.
Also explained the crystals, where to tank and what to avoid, as well as simple eye mechanics.

The other DPS.....and mentor....was a real nuisance.
I don't even know why this person was a mentor.
I said at the beginning to go easy cause it was my first time tanking, yet he kept pulling additional packs, pulled off agrro by not attacking marked targets etc.
Didn't say a word or anything...

I was really grateful my friend was there and that the healer was such an amazing mentor, able to keep up with healing and still keep chat funny while explaining things.

I keep seeing this happen in PotD, so figured I'd add it.

Someone pops rage, another person proceeds to run and aggro everything from one end to the next. One time they said they were helping.

You're not helping. All you're doing is wasting precious time I could be using to smash things. Which is part of the reason you die on longer floors, you wasted all of the rage time. Pretty much giving us a wipe there.

Did A9s for funsies. The warrior had not cleared, but somehow the AST had. This is just Faust. We get in and I ask, which are you more comfortable with, Eos or Selene? "Idc." I go Selene, thinking that he won't DPS. He doesn't DPS at all. Things seem normal, spreading adlo before the fight (even though war refused to pop conva/defiance out of deliverance for bonus shielding.) Doing scholar stuff. Telling Selene to embrace the lower HP tank, indomming/lustrating when tanks get scary and virusing before double panzer. Right after double panzer, first tank drops, then the other. This wipe is repeated twice.

"Why are you in Cleric Stance???? We don't need your DPS? Just heal. Why aren't you shielding??"

I realized in the last pull what was going on and tried to address it. Tanks weren't popping invuln skills and seperating. "That's overkill, just heal."

I've solo healed Faust multiple times to give our WHM some fun. Aside from her initial regen (while i still did an opener as well) she stayed completely in CS. Are you seriously saying that an AST with an SCHs fairy, Virus, Lustrates and Indoms WHILE DOING 0 DPS, CAN'T KEEP UP?

PotD floors 81-90 as a brd, I que and get 2 monks and a sch and they're all +60-+80 great! This'll go by pretty quick we pull the first mob because it's facing the hallway and covering a chest one of the monks puts in chat "...." "you don't need to pull everything just pull what we need to". I explain that the mob saw us anyways and we need to kill to get the passage opened, "k well i'm not wasting 30+ mins in here pull what I tell you". Um excuse me? Everything's dying really fast like not even living for 5 seconds and the monk is just screaming at us calling everyone everything under the sun saying "ugh we could've cleared this SO much faster" or "Again...really? More mobs?" This went on for a few floors with everyone saying just chill man we need more kills for the passage to get to the next floor he was trying to proceed when it wasn't even possible due to mobs needing to be killed.

We get to floor 86 and the monk that's been being a butthead decides to pop a rage and sight, once they're on the move they type "lemme show you how it's done idiots" and I swear the Twelve musta heard my prayers as they triggered not 1 but 2 landmines and died instantly. We all laughed so hard and the monk just started freaking out screaming "REZ ME" in chat and the healer rezzed em but before he did he said "lemme show you how it's done ;)". We cleared up to 90 and I gave that healer a comm for stickin up for everyone if you're reading this thank you and the other monk as well being so patient with the angry monk.

A10. Dragoon is new. I tell him not to step onto any of the buttons on the ground, meanwhile the paladin pulls. I run towards him, accidentally step onto the ball trap and kill the dragoon with it. Yep, I'm a great mentor.

Look on the bright side, maybe he thought you were specifically showing him, by example, how and why people don't step on the buttons!

In other news, level 50 roulette as BLM landed me in Hullbreaker Isle, with a level 59 WAR, in HQ Adamantite gear, who, for reasons that are utterly beyond my comprehension, managed to lose aggro on entire packs of mobs to me, simply from me spamming Fire II. No Raging Strikes, even. Just Fire II. I didn't even have to or get to use Flare before I got chewed up. I would've used Quelling Strikes, but I see no reason to give a tank who can't do what I can do with lower levels and worse gear, a crutch to make up for their lack of skill. Especially when they won't even acknowledge that they're doing anything wrong. Especially especially when, if I'm not taking aggro, it winds up going to the healer instead.

There's nothing that upsets me more about bad WARs than seeing them struggle with large pulls, all the while sitting on 5 stacks of Wrath. Yeah, sure, not like Steel Cyclone might help with building aggro, or Inner Beast in doing damage. Yes, and Unchained is completely useless. I'll be the first to proclaim how much I hate playing WAR, and no, I'm not good at DPSing as a WAR, but even so I took the time to read the skill tooltips and ensure I could at least hold aggro when I play the job.

This happened around a week ago.

After I capped the weekly tomes of scripture, I run duties just for the lore for my relic.
I was a bit tired so I decided to queue as WHM for trial roulette before going to sleep to get enough lore to buy a crystal.
I get Nidhogg, with first time player bonus, it's been so long and I rarely get this duty in roulette but I wasn't worried.

Buffs up, tank runs to the boss and we start.
At the first roar (the wide room unavoidable AOE), the BLM drops dead.
Without thinking much about it, I Swift-cast + Raise. For all I knew, he/she was standing in front of the boss and got cleaved.
BLM raises, I top him/her off and protect before starting to DPS.
Second wide room AOE and BLM drops dead again. My cohealer didn't seem interested in the slightest about raising instead kept on DPSing so I hard cast rezzed.
Same as before, I top off and protect.
BLM dies again shortly after.

I just stare at the screen.

At this point, before hitting raise, I decide to check their gear... And they are completely naked on the left side.
Now, I must have been really tired to not notice the really low HP.

Before actually asking why they were almost completely naked, they said in chat "looks like I can't put on gear while engaging, sorry :(".
I am honestly not sure if you can actually reach the ilvl for the duty with just a 210 weapon and a mix of 200-230 accessories, but maybe you can. Or they were unfortunate enough to hit a different gear set before the pull.

Obviously, I didn't raise a third time. It makes me feel bad to see a dead person in my party list when I am healing, but with such low hp they were just an hindrance.
We proceed to easily kill Nidhogg with just 7 people.

Well, that last couple times I've run as ninja I had a bright idea...


When someone else goes rage, and there's a fork in the path...
I've shadewalkerd the manticore, and gone to the shorter offshoot, usually a single room, and poked the enemies, sending them to the manticore guy for slaughter.


It's worked out alright so far. ;P

You can't, I bet they took it off before the pull. I just took off my entire main side and left accessories and I only had like 140 item level.
