they also use the same ear type when we know their are different variants which don't help with not pointing out how similar they are and probably leads credence that the Viera trailer was rushed
I know that this is ancient in internet time but... To make a gender-locked job would require extensive amounts of coding, probably twice as much debugging as a regular job and would be incredibly hard to "police."
You already have to unequip everything when you use a Fantasia, so they'd need to code a warning message "Please change out of any gender-limited job before returning to the Character Creation screen" or the game would bug out when you tried to log back in (Averted for the actual CC screen since it drops you in the original class you chose, but the game will put you back in the class you logged out as).
On the faces topic. The nose is the same, the light is just hitting it differently, the eyes, mouth and eyebrows (we only really see one's brows because of the hair) are so similar that if they ARE different faces I'm more concerned about the lack of customization...
that's what one of my issues in regards of this race and lore relation.... the look of the male of a race could be varied differently based on lore but rarely applied to the female.
it's the same case with SE tendency to associate healer job with female, because apparently big bulky guy looks weird channeling magic from a distance, healing people *rolleyes*
While the emotes are similar, they are not identical. This notion that they just copied Au Ra emotes has been a falsehood spread from the beginning. None of the actual emotes shown were copied, and some of the cposes look similar but that's it, many races have similar cposes because they often follow the same kind of poses, such as arms crossed or hands on hips. There is significant differences in the leg positions for the Viera ones that absolutely differentiate them from other similar poses.
2 weeks to go now
If they add male Veira cool good to hear but if they don't I probably won't be surprised I'm sure it'll either be that or they'll add different race that's male-only to go with the female only Veira OR it's just the female Viera when nothing else maybe unlikely but possible.
Well, as other comment showed...
Fanservice oriented dimorphism and gender coded roles are [sadly] a staple in gaming and don't think either will be gone anytime soon. If Dancer is confirmed as the next healer, despite being a male roe of all things, I will still level it, but I can almost guarantee it will be blatantly feminine.
I think male Viera should be made to look more like hares, as they are less cute and look more muscly than rabbits. Males should have longer limbs, more muscle definition and slightly longer skinnier tails. The light and dark markings around a hare's eyes could look interesting on male Viera characters.
If yoshida feels weird about bunny boys, tell him they're Hare Hyurs! Hares are also much more solitary and the males I have seen boxing look pretty fierce.
(Also I want to make hare puns and jokes. Like "Hare I am! Geddit? Coz I'm a Viera? :D")
(What do you call Viera players that like to make their characters look good? A Hare-Stylist.)
Funnily enough one of the performers stated that the empire sent in platoons into the woods to round up the 'hares' and they ended up getting slaughtered; those that returned were with Viera who came at their own freewill. I've never heard of the females being called 'Hares' - so heck, perhaps 'Hares' is a derogatory term or something; or perhaps the males are seen as 'Hares'
The game really needs an option to make slender feminine males like alphinaud. There's already multiple options for people who want to play as a bara or bishie type character. So hopefully the "young elezen" viera variant the artist talked about will fill that niche.
The AF would probably be designed more towards female aesthetics. But at least we could glamour over it. Now the job animations on the other hand... there's nothing we can do about them. I'm hoping at least there are some animations similar to ffxi dancer, which are quite neutral.
FFXI Galka Dancer
I don't think Alphinaud is feminine tho. Even if you're talking strictly about appearance and not mannerism.
But if we do get male viera, then yeah it'd be nice to have two subraces where they differ in physical characteristics (one is short and slender). Honestly this could be a way for SE to make something different (subraces even more varied than between the hyurs) and increasing the hype for the expansion.
Alphinaud isn't...feminine, he's just young, he's a young boy as yoshida has explained.
And also as Yoshida has explained in the past with the child miqo'te models there are certain problems that come with adding in child-like races like that, the lalafell are an exception because they're dwarfish and their anatomy is much much more exaggerated compared to something like the harvin from GB.
That being said I understand the desire for an 'elegant' looking male race with a more feminine aesthetic, I'd rather like if male viera were tall and elegant, or if the theory about the subraces being unique gave hrothgar a similar tall elegant looking subrace.
I think people are getting their hopes up too much for drastically different subclans. For one, they already spelled out what the Viera ones are (Rava and Veena), and two, subclans having different models like Hyur is the same amount of work as two races, even if they take shortcuts and share all emotes/animations, it's still a lot of additional assets to make when we already know they're going out of their way with viera hairstyles having bangs on/off variants and had to do some kind of change regarding helmets for them.
There's wishful thinking sure, but people maybe need to adjust their expectations based on the likely reality of the situation.
Eh, who's to say, my expectations for eureka was for it to be one zone almost identical to diadem just solely existing for the relic, and while pagos is hot garbage I was still surprised they went through the effort of making each zone have it's own sort of unique mechanic.
I don't think we can really call wishful thinking until the fan fest drops, especially with the comments we were given about the "young elezen race" and such. We don't know what reality is until it actually happens after all :P. That being said I do see where you're coming from.
I feel like the young elezen thing is taken way out of context. They were talking about ears, it's probably just ears that kinda go down and backwards.
The only race I think is close to Bara is Roe and maybe Hyur, But the Elezen and Au ra are super skinny so is the Miqot'e they are just short and skinny.
To be honest, we should just stop comparing Viera and/or Hrothgar to any existing races. Its nonsense to compare their height/body type and call them "They are just Miqo with bun ears! Or Hyur/Elezen/Roe body's with bun ears attached!".
In the end, we're talking about a humanoid race, which exists even before FF14 (they appear just less racial thanks to our great graphic engine&limitations). It doesnt matter if they look bulky, young, athletic, or whatever.
I can only speak for myself, and I really do hope Hrothgar will be your bara race. At least then we can demand for male Viera that look more agile, slender and dextrous looking. :D
[Comes back 20 pages later with Starbucks] is it FanFest-mas yet?
Thanks but that wasn't my intent. I'm pretty sure that any new race will have features that match previous races. I just hope that we will get a muscled race that isn't as wide as Roe.
Wishful thinking I hope we get Viera and Hrothgar with F/M counterparts."No Sarcasm" I hope you get the Male Viera that is slender.
I mean they already have the young eleven body model. Take off the ears and slap on some bunny ears.. no high heels for these and bam. lil bunny boys and girls
Can't say I'm in agreement with the desire to look like a child. Maybe if they were a subrace - but I'm certainly going to wrinkle my nose at the idea of the males looking so drastically different and stuck in some sort of juvenile state that people will sexualise. Seeing as Yoshida is clearly against the idea of them being 'Cute' you can sadly kiss the whole 'looks like a child' idea out of the window.
If he's already uncomfortable with the idea of men just being 'rabbits' in the first place, then I can assure you that child bunny man is even more 'far out'. Honestly would disturb the heck out of me seeing them wearing 'sexy clothes'. No thanks. Shota is gross.
I don’t know if people would be mad. There are a lot of people like me who has always wanted to play young eleven.
Girls would probably like shota bunnies more than men would. :v At least Japanese girls. I mean, they let them romance Ken in P3P after all. I personally wouldn't want them though
To add remember every piece of gear would have to be adjusted to fit the new male race whatever it is including the bunny suit, summer swimsuit, subligars and undergarments now i don't know about you but if i had to do that for a child like male whose proportions are very similar to a young teen i would be very uncomfortable doing that (if i didn't outright refuse) and if the male devs were uncomfortable doing the bunny suit for grown male characters and an awkward potato i doubt they would add it and go through that uncomfortableness again but worse
Exactly, especially when the japanese word she used can be translated as "combination" not strictly variation. I think she was absolutely just saying that with a combination of face+hair+height they can appear like they're young elezen, because they already look like that. I think Yoshida tried to shush her for exactly the reason we're seeing now, people are reading way too much into what she's saying and he didn't want people jumping to conclusions because he knows to be careful with what and how you say things because the fans/players will take things and run with it.
Umm have you seen Lalafell?
They are literal babies.
And it’s creepy when people make them naked.
Also miqote women and aura women kinda look like teen girls and they made slutty outfits for them.
People are always more comfortable with sexualizing young women. But that shouldn’t take away of my fantasy of a link like character saving the world.
Link to me doesn't look like a child. He looks like a young man - in BotW anyway. If he looks like a child; then yeah - no sexualise. Shudder.
Lala's have no sexual characteristics - they don't enter my mind for anything that is considered 'sexual' they're like toys or minions that are controlled. Anyone who looks at a lala in 'that' kind of manner is someone I'm not going to get along with.
It depends on the game, some of the Links do look really young. Like Wind Waker Link or Young Link in OoT. They're babies.
Yep creeped out by that too thankfully most players i come across don't dress their lalafel characters with the above equipment or naked still the fact its possible still creepy in my book but with female miqo'te and female au ra they are not defaulted to young teen look i see them in their low 20s look that might be me though its young looking but avoids the creepy zone in my view.
I actually find it easier to sexulise young men 18+(as i don't clasify you as a man or woman till your 18yrs old) than a woman the same age but that is me though.
Your more than welcome to ask for a link like playable character just know when your are asking(highly likely indirectly) for that your asking a dev to have to put this type of model:

in this type of outfit:

I find it creepy with lalas i find it just as creepy with young elezen looking race and sorry to say i'd rather they avoid having to do the above :S
Link has so many different looks when link looks younger they tend to play up his mischievous side more and make him more stoic the older he looks
It's just a skinny short guy. You can see what you described at any beach.
Hrothgar are going to be ugly. Believe it
LOL are people seriously implying alphinaud is a shota? I'm an artist and he is NOT proportioned like a child. Especially compared to viera concept art we've already seen. But we're talking about a game where there are toddlers running around in sexualized outfits so the point is moot.

Poor Alphinaud isn't even allowed to wear a swimsuit. This after he worked so hard to learn how to swim too. :(
Alphinaud is 16 years old. His body is that of a teenager; if you drew sexual art of him or a blooming lala, guess what - you're going to get your art flagged. I remember when one of the big FF discords got deleted by discord because someone posted 18+ lala art.
Some folks do NOT want to see a teenager that is clearly under the age of 18 or -looks like they're underage - wearing some of the very revealing outfits that this game has to offer. Lalas yet again have zero sexual characteristics; they have no chest, no 'backside' no 'hips' - they are potatoes.
Would freak me the heck out to see someone RPing in such a manner on such a build, just like it would freak me out to see someone on a lala doing that. I shouldn't be subjected to it, nor should I have to view something that in my eyes looks seriously 'inappropriate' and/or seriously 'wrong' in my culture. Unless the outfits for such a body style are covered and modest, I don't want to see it. Call me selfish, sure - I'll take it, hard 'heck no' on that one chief.
Do I like seeing scantly clad cat girls or au'ra? No, but I can deal with that. I can't, however, deal with a teenager/child build dressed like that. I just did one of the DRK quests very recently with Rielle, someone who shares that body type. That face is clearly that of a child, nopity nope. xD This is why I'm even more 'NOPE' at the mere idea of it.
I do not want to see someone like this in a bathing suit. Especially not a 'bunny girl' who is already sexualised and certainly not a 'bunny boy'. Viera already has 'playboy bunny' slapped on it.
