They call me the Morbol of Thanalan because I'm so TOXIC.

I have zero issue with the people who care for that type of content.
my issue arises when pandering to that type of content screws up everything in pve so those people who like it have "balance". which has been seen before many times in many games because developers seem to be unable to separate pve and pvp abilities. its that simple.
IMO it's better if they're separate. WoW has shown that having the two be the same will cause the PvE skillset to get nerfed because of PvP stuff and vice versa. It's better that the two are separate and then balanced towards the respective game mode. On a related note, assigning everyone stats for their jobs just makes things fairer and more skill based rather than PvP boiling down to whoever's got the best gear.
I'll say this, duels in any area would be nice instead of going to specific areas. Open world pvp usually sets up for griefing and invites the wrong type of energy. Final Fantasy is a role playing game with an immersive story and set for exploration. It is without a doubt a PVE style game that is supposed to invite community and togetherness. That is the overall target and what most subscribers seek. Often when a game invites a focus on PVP by adding things like open world PVP, it breaks apart community and builds on elitism. It's people who want to be better than others, point out who is stronger, etc. It becomes that fierce competition and hatred, rather than community. Granted, my phrasing there is off a bit, but I hope everyone reading this understands what I'm trying to say.
I do understand many come here from WoW or other places where PVP was a bigger portion of your time. There are nice pvp areas for those who want it. If you want the pvp, then go there for it. If players can't go to Wolves' Den Pier to duel and "settle disputes," then what makes you think it would change with open world pvp? What you're essentially saying in it is that you'd like someone who gets upset with others to be able to come grief them and attack. At least that's my perception of it all. Not to mention, why do you think "violence" would solve the dispute rather than the two people acting like the grown adults they likely are and just talking it out? lol
Don't get me wrong, I miss certain aspects of pvp. But I'm used to Final Fantasy as my first MMO was FFXI. I loved it. We had certain pvp areas (I miss Ballista) and mechanics, but we also were able to use all our skills in it...not the limited pvp skills like here in XIV. Then I had WoW and all with open world and there were times it was fun when we'd have a huge war going on. But I also remember the times I got frustrated by high level trolls who would show up to camp me and other lower levels who were just trying to level, quest, and have fun.
Biggest issue with world pvp though is the story. It's not like you can be from Garlemald and you're attacking Eorzea. We (the players) are literally allies with each other, with all enemies serving as NPC at this moment. Why would we have open pvp of killing each other in zones? Sure, maybe a small select group would say they would be role playing as spies of the empire or something, but do you honestly think we'd have that many doing RP that aspect on a regular basis? The big ask here for it to happen is to create a story that opens up the opportunity OR to then somehow create the option for people to make characters and play through the store as someone supporting the Empire. I mean, it could be done...but would be a lot of effort and money. You'd be changing FFXIV into a completely different game.
I don't wanna assume this is directed at me, but... not sure who else it would be, so I'm just gonna throw out that this was entirely not my point at all. My point was I wouldn't like world pvp that is not optional, because it's not something I want to deal with in a game I primarily play for pve. I rolled on a pvp server on WoW to raid with my friends and stopped playing on that server the second we stopped raiding, and I'll never do it again. :P
This I'd actually like. I keep forgetting duels are even a thing in this game at all. Shame, because the duel music is one of my favorite tracks in the game lmao
It was aimed at anyone who has rolled on a PvP server but then complains when PvP happens. You are not the only one that has expressed such views in this thread, nor are you the only one that has brought up various reasons as to why one may roll on a PVP server. I get that some may play on PvP servers not because they like PvP but they want to play with friends or have a community that is already established on the server.
That said PvP server PvP is optional because one has to make the choice to roll on said server so any act of PvP. I get we will not get PvP servers in FFXIV, but your mindset is not that uncommon when it comes to PvP servers, which by in large makes no sense to me. End of the day one has to make the choice to roll on a PvP server.
Either way it was not solely aimed at you. LUL I mean most my time on WoW classic was spent listening to people in chat, discord, stream etc . . . Complaining about PvP on a pvp server. Getting camped, barred from raids, not being able to farm etc . . .
If PvP players are the target audience of the FF team then they have done a terrible job, they seem to have developed a massive game with millions of players and nobody plays PvP. If you own a patrol station, who is your target audience? Is it the person wanting to buy a Snickers? or a 20 pack? I think we can both agree your target audience should be drivers.
All of the argument like this in this thread always seem to assume the tail is wagging the dog and not the other way around. "it would be popular if it was better" No, it's poor because nobody plays it so it gets no love from the Dev team, that's because the target audience of FF MMO' s always has been PvE players and the player base it's built up reflects that.
