The wiki normally isn't a reliable source though since it can be adjusted by anybody, also the wiki still doesn't say anything about the males being rare, unless I skimmed over it somehow.

It doesn't say they're rare, it says they shy away from contact with others. An interesting tidbit I didn't see in the lore book, though I could've just missed it.
Either way, male Miqo'te are still playable, and there're quite a few NPCs of theirs too, so...

I think people are just lumping miqo'te with their FF11 self. I'm not finding anything that says their rare.

Low male birthrate is mentioned on their naming convention page in the lore forum

Now I do remember seeing this.
Though this is just for moon keepers not male miqo'te as a whole.

There can still be quite a bit of moon miqo'te males running around though just because one family only has like 2 to 1 males.
