It's going both ways really. The white knights and the whiners are both equally retarded in my eyes. This game is not perfect nor is it the best MMO. Why can't both sides see that?

I do not feel entitled to anything. What I'm not happy about is:
-I purchase the physical CE version of the game for PC (I do not own a PS3) and cannot redeem the registration code for it because I already have an active 1.0 Windows account.
-I got to play "Early Access" for all of a day, because I couldn't log in any other day during it from servers being full.
-I can not log in on the launch day of the game because the servers are full.
What I have played of the game, I love and Yoshi-P and his team did an amazing job with everything in game. What I hate is that I can't play the game because they development (or server team, or whoever) did not look at the pre-order or Beta numbers and think "We're going to need bigger servers". Especially given that we had what, a month?, between Beta 3 and 4.
I enjoyed the end of 1.0, I want to enjoy ARR, but I can't right now.
So Ridiculous.. There is no problem with the servers. They only hold a maximum of about 5000 people. The only issue going on here is there is a million people trying to play and not enough servers to hold that many people. Did SE miscalculate the number of worlds needed to support the player base? Obviously. Did they release a broken game? Certainly not. Sure, they could have launch with twice as many servers, but then everyone would be crying doom and gloom when they had to merge the low population servers because they over estimate. The only solution now, is to add servers and allow world transfers.
This is easily the best Launch of any MMO I've seen, and I've seen a lot of launches. SE is probably going to extend the free playtime because of this. People should just be happy they got a fully function game with content. Atleast when you do get to play, it works.
I havent seen someone care this much about a video game in a long time. Yoshi and his team are the kind of people the gaming industry needs right now. Those who are passionate and actually care about the game and not the money.
Yeah I totally agree with you there. Berating of other people's points of view is more or less what I was poking at, and it is like you said, happens on both sides. Also like you said, no game is ever going to be perfect or the best, so people really just need to pick a game they enjoy and play. That's what games are for after all :)
I can feel the hatred emanating from you lol
If you don't like it, why do you hang around? Just curious. Typically, I find that community boards for a given game are, for the most part, made up of fans of the game, who generally tend to enjoy the game they are playing and enjoy speaking positively of it.
Perhaps you should find a forum community that would be a bit more neutral? It's like going to a Nintendo forum and complaining that everyone seems to enjoy Nintendo.
I agree with a lot of this. Right now my biggest complaint is the lack of log in queue. Right now it's just a crapshoot to get in. If there was a log in queue I would happy cause then at least i could wait instead i have to spam trying to get in. Which i can only imagine is creating more stress on the servers. I'm also not really happy with the level of communication that is currently taking place. I could be looking in the wrong places (Information section, loadstone, twitter).
I love the game, it just sucks I can't play. If it doesn't get better, I may not continue to play. If i could just learn what the plans are and a rough time frame to fix these problems It could set my mind more at ease.
Though with all that said there is one thing in today's letter from the producer that irks me.
This shouldn't be a time for fun. It should be a time for a scramble to fix the problems.Quote:
And now it’s time for this hardcore gamer to have some fun! See you all in Eorzea!!!
I agree that FFXIV is a great and fun game I think that most of us feel that way. This whole 1017 thing doesn't let what seems to be an amazingly large number of people simply play the game in any capacity. I don't even think the extra servers they are adding will do much to alleviate the problem as early access allowed more people to create characters than can play on each server. The overloading will continue unless whatever percentage that can't log in gives up and migrates to a new server.
I posted this in a different section, but I feel it pertains to here too. I have to edit this post as I used over 2k characters so moment.
*Edit*
If I may interject: I am not level 50 and this is to be honest my first Final Fantasy based MMORPG. I understand and appreciate Yoshida as well as his team. I've been playing Final Fantasy for almost 25 years now and I love the franchise even though there are some in the series with yes, bad design and I can say that having played them all but FFXI and FFXIII - Lightning Returns. My friends call me Final Fantasy obsessed which I suppose is true considering the facts. Final Fantasy XIV: ARR is a beautiful game and it is fun... when you can get it.
I am an American and yes I will say that the NA/EU have had their share of server hiccups, maintanence issues, other issues attributed to the server. I got locked out of most of beta 4 due to a weird login error after getting booted. I will still play this game, yes. My best friend usually tells me I support Square even when it is at its worst. I am sure that yes, they may be working, and mayhap I hope they are trying to resolve the issue. I'm one of the ones that get the constant, World is Full error. I will not bash on them for that. They under-estimated the success of this launch, it's human to error.
But to look at it from a business stand-point, how it is currently being handled may be bad for business. I've seen a good suggestion floating around about booting the AFK players if they are AFK for longer than an hour, give or take. If they implemented even that function it might help with some of the congestion errors. People are not seeming to want to log off due to they fear they will not be able to get back on. All that does is keep a server full without letting new players login. In reality that could be a simple fix rather than locking out the servers, at least until they can make some headway with the current issues.
I can wholeheartedly understand the frustration of those that pre-ordered the game or bought the game at launch who are unable to play. They spent money on a product that they have yet to use. At least try to be civil, how would you feel if you wanted to play but could not? Fighting, trolling, white knighting, what help does that give the developers in imput? That energy could be used on something more constructive. Sorry if I have offended anyone, that was not my goal. I'm just trying to be logical and sensible to a situation that looks out of control.
*Further Edit*
Personally I think we should be trying to help the dev. team with input that is constructive. I am bashing no one, nor will I. Some of us do not mind the wait, I do not, but again I do however understand the frustration of those that can not get in.
Lack of communication does not help though, that much I will say. Anyone that has ever developed anything should realize that communication is the key to success. Yes there will be negative and positive things said, they are both sides to one coin. But again, please try to put the energy into something that will be positive. None of us want to see this game fail.
I have said my piece. I just hope that others can see this logic. ~Raven
I don't give a shit who cries and who doesn't.
Yoshi-p is indeed a grown ass man getting paid to do a job.
And let's be honest, he's not saving babies or feeding small children in Africa.
I'm not saying he shouldn't cry if that's what he felt after such a long process.
I'm just saying no one should care or make a big deal about said tears
Sorry, I'm not buying it.
I like Yoshi P, he seems like a great guy, very smart and dedicated, and the quality of the game speaks to the fact that he and his team "get it."
But right now, S-E is failing, and this isn't beta any more and it's not 1.0. The failures they're having are predictable and preventable, which means that some one in charge of planning has failed to do their job.
I don't know or believe that person is Yoshi P, but as part of the leadership at S-E, Yoshi shares responsibility to make things right.
When I see an actual plan of action from S-E with a timeline for when I can actually play the game I have paid for, then I will start to give them some credit, and not until then.
The OP says like they're doing some kind of favor for us. You know what is sad? Pay and not play. We aren't just players, isn't a F2P game, is a P2P game, we are customers, and so the complaints are valid.
^ Agreed.
The time for white knights has ended. It's time to stop being clouded by guilt and emotions and face what is happening.
Also, i don't blame Yoshi-P. I blame whoever is in charge of the NA/EU servers. Obviously not all of Square-enix is bad as the JP servers are fine. But they shouldn't have hired middle school students to fix the NA/EU servers.
You guys please don't make Yoshi-P cry, look at what you're doing to him with all of your entitled complaining about buying a thing that isn't working. Please lift your hands to the air and lend Yoshi-P your spirit energy (money) to help him dry his tears.Quote:
I feel extremely bad for Yoshi-P and his team right now. At this point, NA/EU don't even deserve the game with how entitled you guys are.
He is definitely tearing up over finishing the game and not the busted servers, right?
I have found it revolting to see just how entitled an abusive the NA community is. Which is funny because after the hate an fear mongering of NA in FFXI an their hate towards the JP community, you would think we would be used to it by now :(. I am annoyed that every day now I cant play more than a couple of hours a day because you cant get into servers till NA people log off for night, but aside from that the community is horrible.
There is even a race hate guild on my server:(. As for the forums, I think most of the hate an entitlement is coming from the younger ones who have no patience anyway. I have alot of respect for the JP Devs an what they have done with the game, they definitely dont deserve the tantrums that we are seeing now.
What is amusing is its the "American/Canadian" Server people who are at fault......NOT THE JAPANESE
Some of you need to think on that.
edit yeah I did report that guild so I dont know if MODS have seen it and or done anything about them. I am not going to advertise the name here as it doesn't deserve any more attention.
Ewwww a race hate guild? As if the smug legacy guilds weren't enough...
MMO's have been around for a decade +, this isn't SE's first mmo.
Why can no MMO launch ever go right? They ALWAYS, every single time "underestimate" the load and the servers get hit, why not have MORE then enough servers for launch and once a month goes by and things settle down just phase out the un-needed servers? Seems like common sense by now.
On top of this, they have a QUEUE system, which is something almost any new mmo has, yet it's bugged/not working, why not fix this?
Thi sis the ROOT of the problem, it isn't that the logins are "limited" that's pissing people off, it's the fact that instead of logging in and getting into a queue where we can then go do something else and come back at "x" time" to be in teh game, it's that they want people to just keep logging in and pinging the servers over and over and over and it's wasting peoples times and paitence.
You know whats really sad? Having to log in at 2 in the morning just to be able to play the game.
This is so much BS. This game was quite clearly designed not to fail and to make the most money as possible to make up for 1.0. It's fun but generic and streamlines things that have already been streamlined so that it can bring in the most people possible. There is a lot they could have done differently if they truly just cared about the game's quality over the money. They aren't any different than any big developer atm.
Personal attacks against Yoshi are definitely misguided since he didn't decide the budget and all server nonsense. Now statements against SE and their policies are not a personal attack in the slightest and I don't know why anyone would think that way.
SE dropped the ball, hard. Yoshi is doing what he can but even he was screwed by SE which sucks for the game devs and the players.
Maybe from the point of View of the president and CEO of Square Enix. But dont you think the Yoshi and his team have put love and energy, hard work on something they trully love?
Put in your mind that Server from NA/EU are hold by Eidos and not SE. /fume Eidos, not Yoshi.
Maybe they do, but not on the level of them being what gaming needs. Past figures of SE have left because they could no longer make the games they wanted to make in current SE iirc like the people who made FFT and the older FF's like FF6 while the devs who are making this have stuck it out with what the higher ups tell them to do. I think that says something to how valid that statement is.
All big MMO i've played on launch have server issues. Even a non-MMO like Diablo 3 does.
Actually SE did a great job at least on the JP servers, i've not seen a single complaint from Tonberry yet. There's a big English speaker community here.
This kind of made me cry!
Thank you for the opportunity to test your product, and for your dedication; You're my hero!
I'm just as ashamed of people who take whatever SE dole out and say 'its fine' or 'I'm lucky to be with you' like some abused partner, as I am of people who are personally attacking employees.
There is a point where something is someone's job. Someone clearly was not doing theirs over the weekend and it needed to be addressed. I'm glad they have seen what a bad experience EA was for NA/EU, and now they have to work hard to make it right, and I'm sure they will.
Not looking forward to getting home from work to 1017 for 30 mins trying to get in though...
No ofcourse not, but it will be fixed in time they working hard on it.
I Remeber playing Aion online when they released. They had queue's but i could wait up to 3 to 6 hours or even more.
I diden't post forum about i just had accept it even if it was frustrating.
It is clear that they do not ignore any problems.
Of course it is frustrating to people, but people need to take it easy,
I fully support the XIV team I hope they continuing to develop the game further, It is a great game i have good time again.
But they have done well for a game launch everyone will not be pleased, but they trying atlest..
Yoshi... don't cry. :( We love you and your game. /hugs!
I think I'm gonna quit this forum. I seriously don't know where all the D-bags came from but they're a lot, and in high numbers.
My FFXIV experience so far:
Day 1: Waited half an hour while server was full. Played many an hour after that. no problem
Day 2: Log in. Play. Log out.
^How can this warrant people screaming "refund"?
I'm starting to miss the FFXI community. they were incredibly elitist but at least they had a average IQ above 80.
So we should apply this same rule to everything in real life. Lets say for example, you buy a new TV that wasn't thoroughly tested before shipped out to the stores. On receiving it you find out it has major issues and the makers needs to continue fixing it and every time you get it back a new issue pops up, and yet you should be grateful for the makers in taking their time in trying to repair it. Is this how we should be when we get a product that isn't working when they had the opportunity to make improvements before rushing it?
They could have extended Phase 4(Possibly pushing the release back), allowed a larger amount of players in, and making sure its very stable. Instead they simply increased Phase 4 by only 6 hours on the NA/EU server when it wasn't even peak time. These issues could have been greatly avoided had they taken the correct steps before release. I can see why many players complain, when you buy something, you expect it to work without any hassle.
This game is 10/10, we were only upset because we couldn't get in.. Even I am guilty of being impatient. But the reason those kids rage so hard is because they tasted of the sweet juicy goodness that is ffxiv and they just neeeed more. Once the pacifier is in their mouths they are okay. I hope Yoshi did not get his feelings hurt by some of the sad members of our community. Most of us are ashamed of how some people treat others..
I will be playing this game for a long time to come. Square Enix has done amazing with everything including their tech support and maintenance's.
The community's anger came from its desperation not its hatred. <33333
way way way to many whiney babies... calm the heck down and realise they are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for you greedy nerds just to play a few days early. show some respect, wait a whole 3 hours for maintenance, go wash yourself for once cuz god knows most of you havent gotton off your damn chairs for atleast 48 hours.. get laid..do something except sit here and bicker about something that you have no controll over. fat greasy nerds.
Yoshi-P and staff, you've done an amazing job creating a world for us all to enjoy for years to come. Keep up the great work. /hug
