Please fix this add Link shell management tools
If systems are poorly designed for adding features then it can be very add to just add a "basic" feature. Poorly designed code requires that it be ripped up, redesigned and then re-implemented. Hopefully the new LS setup, from functions to data model, will be feature growth friendly.
well ok their listening. but why almost a year? do it already, half my members miss events or stand around waiting to see what will happen because there is no LS message. quite frustrating. if anything this needs to be in 1.19 NOW/asap
Guys all we asked for as an actual update which SE has now provided at this point there is nothing ANYONE can complain about. Yes it sucks waiting, Yes it sucks to have to reform, aside from giving us a timeline they have just admitted the new system will have everything we want.
Once SE can provide a timeline then all should be good. Now all they then have to figure out is why the LS was designed the way it was and fire said individuals so it never happens again.
can't wait ty Ruk!!
Well everyday it make me feel that I probably want to wait for all these changes to be implemented in order to have a better feel what the game is trying to give me. If i cont. playing how the whole thing is right now , I feel that i will miss all the new cool features that they will implement I don't want to learn a system or thing then have to go back and try it with another character :(
Although I somewhat feel like this is the same response we get time after time, it's a bit different. At least they've acknowledged it and have explicitly said what is going to happen with it. However, this is SE and we all know SE updates not only FINAL FANTASY XIV, but FINAL FANTASY XI at a snails speed. I wonder if they even realize that, if not, they should be told directly by the community reps that WE think they're terribly slow. Although what do we know about game design...we can only look at every other MMO company and see the speed they release patches/features and compare, but I think that's a pretty good basis to go on to call SE slow as hell. Anyways, I won't continue to go down that path and post some feedback as requested.
Linkshell Functionality
It's absurd to think that FFXIV took a leap backwards from FFXI's already terrible LS/guild system. Even in FFXI, those features we had were bare-bone minimums to even communicate with one another. I suppose it isn't surprising now, one year later that FFXIV actually took this path seeing as how the rest of the game panned out, but immediate fixes should have at least been implemented; such as some text command for kicking individuals and inviting individuals.
What would be great to see from a future LS system is the following:
* Every time I open the Linkshell menu, I have to select the actual linkshell to display the members for the CORRECT number of members out of the total number of members to update. This should be fixed so whenever I open the linkshell menu it correctly displays the amount of members online out of the total members without me taking that extra step.
* Linkshell messages, nothing complex, copy EXACTLY what Final Fantasy XI has. Simple.
* Linkshell notification when a member logs in, such as: "Player Name has logged into <Linkshell name> or Player Name has logged in!" (Should have a filter for this, whether you want it on or off)
* Linkshell notification when a member logs out, such as: "Player Name has logged out of <Linkshell name> or Player Name has logged out!" (Should have a filter for this, whether you want it on or off)
* Linkshell notification when a new member has joined the linkshell, such as: "Player Name has joined <Linkshell name>!"
* Linkshell notification when a member is promoted to a Leader status, such as: "Player Name is now a Leader of <Linkshell name>!"
* Linkshell notification when a member is demoted from a Leader status, such as: "Player Name is no longer a Leader of <Linkshell name>!"
* Linkshell notification when a member is removed from the linkshell, such as: "Player Name has been kicked/removed/ousted from <Linkshell name> by Leader Name/Master Name!"
* Linkshell notification when a member disbands from the linkshell, such as: "Player Name has left <Linkshell name>!"
* Display where current members are in the world, again, exactly like FINAL FANTASY XI's system. We want to know if they're in Ul'Dah, or Nanawa Mines, Coerthas, etc.
* Display the current job and the level of that job the player is on.
* Display when the last time the member has been logged in.
* Allow us to invite members to a linkshell from ANYWHERE in the world, just like we can invite anyone to a party from anywhere in the world.
* Allow us to remove/kick members from a linkshell from ANYWHERE in the world and at ANYTIME, this means if they decide to MIA on the linkshell or quit the linkshell without dropping their pearl, we'll be able to remove their dead weight.
* Allow us to promote and demote members in a linkshell from ANYWHERE in the world.
* Add a chime sound effect for when players of a linkshell which you have actively equipped log in and log out. (Should have a filter for this, whether you want it on or off)
* Allow us to talk between multiple linkshells at once with easy commands, such as: /l1 /l2 /3 etc.
* Give us easy commands to use for linkshell management, such as: /lcmd add player, /lcmd kick player, /lcmd disband, etc.
* Allow us to customize our own LS crests. AION has a unique and similar crest system like this, so we know it isn't completely a bogus request. Imagine creating your own crests that were unlike any others out there, it's pretty boring and bleak to see every JP LS running around with the Red Circle (most likely signifying Japan). It gets old to try and tell the difference between one LS or the other.
* Linkshell wide event-invite feature: Allow us to quickly setup a group by making a event broadcast to linkshell members, first 8 that accept, get into the party. Also allow us to make it a bit more specific, instead of typing out /pcmd add Player Name 7 times over to invite 7 people, allow us to broadcast a event invite to 7 specific people by just right-clicking on their name in the linkshell list. Oh sht....right-click, that's right. SE doesn't even utilize the right click functionality. You guys should probably look into using right-click after you're done fixing the 5 second delay lag and giving us basic LS features.
* When the achievement system is in place, have it broadcast those achievements into the Linkshell chat, such as: "Player Name was rewarded the <achievement name> achievement!" or something along those lines.
* Allow members to set their own-short comments so other members can view it in the linkshell menu.
* Make it so it's far, far easier to get into the linkshell menu. A hotkey is probably best, it feels like I have to explore a dark-deep cave just to get to a display members of a linkshell I'm in.
* Give us an update icon next to LS member names if they've idled to the point where they may be AFK or are active. This will not only help to see who is at their computer and ready for invites, but we'll also be able to see to is ignoring the call for an invite.
* Allow leaders and/or masters to globally mute individuals if they've become abusive with language.
I think that's is for now, I could care less about the friends-list feature/function, but a lot of the same could be applied from the linkshell functionality...
Reps, if you take anything, take it all. Including the rant messages, it's important that the Devs. and Yoshida know how absolutely pissed some of us are after one year and we still can't do crap with the linkshell system. There isn't even a temporary fix like there was when we didn't even have the /pcmd add/kick commands.
I posted this on a crafting thread, but I believe it also applies here.
So if Linkshells are objects and Characters objects in the OODBMS, it's possible that one is acting as a container for the other. If that's the case a linkshell is not simply a table of character names that SE can have rows inserted or deleted from like a spreadsheet. It's more like a post office box. Once it's physically created, it can't really be destroyed ... just emptied out and never used again.
Excellent list Keftenk, I would like to add the following:
- Give us an LS Bank, can be turned off and on by the owner of the shell... Items in the LS bank can be shared with all LS members. (or with users based off their access... more on that in a second).
- Give us more levels of permissions, or other roles within the LS system. There needs to be more then user > leader > owner... More like user > member > officer > leader > owner. This way with other features (like listed above) members can have access to different features based off their role in the LS... Other MMOs do this, we should too.
- Give us LS quests, (quests that the whole LS can take part in) these should be grand by design, like kill 1000 crabs, etc... Something that will take some time, but everyone with the pearl equiped takes part.
- Give us LS perks for completing quests, like more space in the bank, or other simple features that make being apart of an LS a fun activitity.
- Give the LS the ability to Tax it's members, this would be optional, and have a cap, but those who sell items with the LS equiped would be subject to the tax (or find money off of NPCs in the field)... The tax would funnel into the LS bank, and the funs would be used for whatever overall goal the LS has in mind. Users who contriube would be able to see how much they have contributed to the funds via the tax system, and again this could be turned off or on as desired.
These are my feedbacks, I understand things take time, and I just hope that some of the smaller items can be introduced shortly, and then for the larger items to come later. :)
Seriously.
WE could care less about apologies. This is a business. Stop apologizing and get some things done.
He is right. Its 1 year after release. Its about 3-4 Months from Diablo 3. Its about 3 Months until SW:ToR. Its only 1.25 year from a possible 'Titan' release from Blizzard.... If this game isnt in tip top shape by then I myself will be jumping ships Im sure.
There is a major possibility that SW:ToR will gain my attention (AND MONEY! HELLO!) before FFxiv is even out of beta stage and charging a fee. This is pathetic.
I dont know what you guys have to do, but I suggest that you hire a bunch more people, like tomorrow. These deadlines are simply not being met fast enough, especially given the near future AAA releases by gaming company's who certainly polish their games and done need a couple years of beta.
Im sorry, but these delays need to stop. You need to hire more people. This game has less than 3-4 months to recover.
I agree, more content needs to be put in the LS system. Hey Ruk can we get more info on what is being added ? Hopefully more than just the basic stuff that should have been added a year ago and SE THIS TIME DONT HALF ASS IT!
It does seem like there's one big "clot" that is holding up a hundred processes. I don't know if it's the crystal tools engine, XIV specifically, the servers, or what.
Thats not the info that sites like diablofans.com seem to think.
If you take what some people say there, Blizzard has said that they have all the systems finished and that in-house testing is already underway (alpha you might call it). What I have read is that Blizz plans for this beta to basically be a server structure and stress test. Being that the game is already pretty much finished the need for massive bug testing.
The idea is Beta in Sept, lasts for 3 months, releases in December.
I don't understand how some people are content with a response like that when basically all they said was that they know it's a problem (no shit, Sherlock) and a promise of a gazillion features you know full well we won't get any time soon. And by soon I mean FFXIV timespan which means 6+ months. Look at how "soon" we're getting the "BY THE END OF SUMMER" content.
If it's taken a year to get something like that you can sit down because it's going to be a loooooooooong while before we get even half of all that shiny stuff they typed up there just to get you teased. All of you seem to forget how much TEASING goes on with this team and how much of that actually comes to fruition. Remember the 7th Umbral Era? Remember Public Companies? Player Housing? Cake Building?
Well LS features are gonna go right in the storage room were all that stuff is locked up so we never see it again.
"Server limitations" is the ultimate scape goat to every single freaking problem with this game... When will some of you realize that? How long have they been holding back their promises because of these mythical "server limitations" and how long is it going to take them to fix it?
Thanks go to you, Rukkirii, as always, for your dedicated efforts to bring it to us as it is. You moderators are the best! However, these are bad news (well, perhaps not that new, but still bad.)
One wonders, if one may, where, oh, where those 5+ years of development, and all those millions, went! Can it be??Seriously! They need to overhaul the entire LS system in order to implement LS messages and expulsions? What were the original developers thinking, for crying out loud?
Tanaka is said to be an ostrich, reputed not to play other MMOs, but apparently forgetful of even the most fundamental features that his FFXI followers would most naturally expect, since they were de facto assumptions for FFXIV to those coming from his other game. Again and one million more times, Good riddance!
some of the best comments I've seen. Read it Yoshi read it....
they are remodeling the client/server Communication system roots, i'm sure after this happen we will see implementation of LS features that we lack even LS functions from FFXI that we don't have. i don't think they wanna try implementing this stuff only to do it again after the system roots are remodeled.
The problem is this "remodeling" is taking way, way too long and the MASSIVE amount of features and settings that have been pushed back because of "server limitations" is just so huge at this point. There's no way they'll manage to push it all out as soon as the fixes are done (if they ever actually happen, because 8 months into the new dev team I'm starting to lose confidence). As it stands they're all promises they can't keep and those (IMO) are exactly what got this game such a bad rep in the first place.
It's just unacceptable, not to mention embarrassing that we don't have something as basic as a way to kick LS-members (without being close to them), at this point.
Yes Colino, all that has been said over and over again. Still, they keep the game free, they can not charge, still they keep the servers up, still they keep trying to fix the problems the previous Dev Team left and still plan to make this game a success after all is said and done.
Please tell me: What else do you think they should do after everything they are doing up until now? How do you know everything they are doing (Which I believe is huge) is all they can do while thinking of the massive hit this game is to their company in terms of failed revenue, lost investment, etc? What else man.. really, what else they need to do to satisfy your personal needs?
Its their game, its their money and is their choice how they allocate their resources. If this game fails it will not affect you directly at all. So please, just take it easy and see if they pull it off or not, move on to better things in the meantime, play other games, what ever you think will work for you.
I didn't call anyone names and do my best to never do so.
I'm sorry it sounds like raging banther but I feel like every day that goes by they care less and less about the BASICS, the stuff that should've been in the game at launch. It just seems that they prefer to work on swimsuits and implementing elevator music on every map before actually fixing the massive lag and the jaw droppingly terrible UI.
I'm not ranting in some huge angry rampage, I'm just talking about stuff. My language is rough and dirty sometimes but that doesn't mean I'm yelling at my screen or shaking my fist in the air while I'm typing all this stuff... :)
I will be glad to edit my post. It is true no literal name calling was done on your part. Some do have rough ways of communicating. But, the point still stands:
They want the game to succeed, therefore, basic features must be implemented before they even begin to ask for fees (I believe no one, including myself, would pay for the game how it is now, or even right after 1.19 without ease of use features). So saying they will forget about them is definitely saying they like shooting themselves in the foot. They have acknowledge countless times now basic features like the ones XI had and some other MMO's features will be added as soon as they fix the mythical server problems.
But what I am trying to say is: I believe they are doing everything they can do with what has been given to them.
To be fair, the music existed before game launch, and the swimsuits likely did, too. Hell, the dungeons existed before launch, we saw screenshots of them before alpha.
My point is that there is a UI specific team, and their only task is working on the UI. That's how SE's entire development process works for every single game that is made in house. They have artists that specialize in drawing COBBLE STONES for towns.
While I agree that LS functionality is an important matter that should be addressed, acting like every implementation to the game is taking resources away from the things that you think should be addressed first is a flawed mentality that many people seem to have on these forums. "They should have implemented THIS instead of THAT" usually doesn't hold water, because a lot of the things that have been implemented outside of mechanic revamps are assets that existed pre-launch, and pre-team shift.
Sorry, I'm not trying to pick on you, just addressing this mentality in general. It's been irking me lately.
Edit:
Also, I'm happy that this topic is getting some attention. It is an issue that really does need to be addressed sooner than later. I'm tired of having my shells get re-pearled.
someone go get a bazooka and blow up all the current FFXIV servers so the server mod/dev team gets pushed more to build the new server software/hardware and report how much more time it's required...
Someone on the JP side posted there is interview back in June... dunno if I translated lol but saying on there the dev/YoshiP said they can give us roadmap of the server after the summer........
It's not that they won't be addressing it, but that they aren't wasting any time propping up a poor system that's going to need to be replaced in its entirety. It may be inconvenient now, but it's the fastest way to get something that works well from the ground up, and I'd much prefer that.
Take a look at the current Search system they have. They tried propping that up with some convoluted "seek" functionality that builds on the existing, inadequate system... And frankly, it was a waste of time. No one really uses it, nor would be acceptable to keep Search the way it is for the relaunch. Ultimately, it was pointless to even try adding features to something no one wants to use. It has to be overhauled.
It's the same with the Linkshell system. They could go to great lengths to squeeze in an extra feature or two, but if it's not designed to deal with kicking someone who's offline, or requiring people to be in the same zone to perform administrative tasks, then what's the point? If it has to be completely replaced to make it work right, then don't waste time on the old system.
So much rage in this thread. This is good.
And that my friend is exactly what XI's LS management tools offered =/ so how do ppl say it was terrible lmfao, If it was exactly like XI's ls tool system this thread would not be needed.
Off topic but too bad they wont treat the class system the same as this rebuild from the ground up, its just as terrible. XD
I'm sure they wanna have it done and all the features added just as much as you do but the fact is its not there yet or we would have it, you can complain all you like but it won't speed their processes up any. Just know that they are working on it and if its worth doing its worth doing right so they don't have to back track anymore then they have to. Trust me they wanna fix this because its one of the many stepping stones toward making money off this game.
While I really enjoy this game I have to say, the coding in this game must be an absolute friggin mess. So many times we finally get a response to a request and its nearly always "We want to implement x, y and z but its going to take time because A, B and C need to be completely redsigned."
This game came out in 2010, I don't know wtf was done to make this game so hard to make updates and changes to, but I really hope you guys have learned for your next mmo, I have never seen a company post so many "Its hard zomg" responses as I have seen with XIV.
