My friend in HS used to call me "Ashiee Washiee" as something kinda cute, which comes from my real name Ashley. I originally hated it but the name grew on me. Horokeu comes from a characters name in one of my favorite mangas.

Ranok --> One of my first rpg memories was golden sun and I thought the ability Ragnarok was so damn awesome. So I took a few letters out and created my first fantasy name, Ranok.
Zahak is just a name stolen from the bluemage quest line in FFXI, also the hydra you fight for the mythic weapons is named Zahak.
Drakesbane is of course, also stolen from FFXI... Loveliest weapon skill ever.
I'm hoping we get name changes for 2.0 so I can go back to my original name I created for myself.
Ragento = Random name i made up years ago
Guarra = Belligerent one, or one who is belligerent, in Portuguese
I dont even speak Portuguese... lol
I originally wanted to use the name i use in most all MMOs ive played, Icemaush(also sorta made up, was a misspelling of a name that i couldnt remember... long story) But I couldnt think of a decent last name that went well with Icemaush.
Well i thought for a name of my Lalafell with white hair..
i wanted to have a "cute" sounding name for him.. i thought.. well who is a cute character in FF series?... hmm i thought.. Quina maybe? i dont wanted to call my lalafell exactly like that... and then i thought of "Itchy and Scratchy" from the simpsons.. i combined both
Quina

+
Itchy
http://nd01.jxs.cz/830/709/5754aac0fe_21437130_o2.jpg
= Quichy ^^
and thats why i named him "Quichy"^^. I knew that i enjoyed playing conjurer (my favourit spell was wind).. so thats why i called him something like "Sturmbruch" which are two german words combined (Sturm = Storm) and (Bruch = Break / fracture). Like breaking one thing into two with a wind spell. its not a real german word but it means something like "stormbreak(age)"
i am german myself... but on the other hand, many characters in JRPGs have also german names..japanese developers like to implement german words from time to time in their games.. like the character "steiner" in Final Fantasy IX, or "Sieg Wahrheit" etc. pp
Quichy Sturmbruch was born ;)

but im thinking about changing the race into male miquote after ARR... but well lets see.. im a little sad to change the character which i was used to pre 2.0. but on the other hand male miquote is so damn asthetic.
and... i already have an idea for a new name also.
A LONG while back when I RPd a lot, I liked to base all my OCs with some concept of the sun. I don't know why but I was just fascinated with the thought of fire/solor powered characters. Because of this my most used character name was simply Solar. In my very first MMO, the name Solar was already taken, so I had the idea of just flipping it backwords.... Solar -> Ralos.... Ever since then (for about 13 years now) I've named all my video game characters Ralos.
My last name however >_>;
My girlfriend, in an attempt to try and start playing video games with me, wanted to help me create my FF14 character. I didn't mind at all letting her help build the character and pick and choose the looks but then she wanted to name me too... I compromised by giving her the last name if I could choose the first name. So she took the name of her cat, Miko, and tried to make it sound fantasy like, thus: Mikorius.
so in 1.0 I was Ralos Mikorius.
Zuellni (pronounced zell-nee) is a fairy character's name in the Chrome Shelled Regios light novels and anime. But since Zue is spelled the same as Sue, everyone just pronounces it as Zool-nee or just Zue as in zoo for short. Since launch, only one person has recognized the name's origins. :D
I made up Tilanya because it sounded nice with the first name and kind of like a royalty type last name, but according to Google, it's apparently a lndian last name too.
My name in 1.0 was taken from an anime called K-ON!, after my favorite character Tsumugi Kotobuki.
Should ARR allow name change, (of which I'm sure it will...) I'll be changing it to somewhat mirror my own name, which I don't want to reveal just yet for security purposes ;p
Was watching The Simpsons when I heard it and decided to see if it was available.

Links Childhood
In FFXI I wanted to be Link! However someone that was on before the PS2 release happened to be Link for a mule. I am a huge Zelda fan...
So I was going to create an Elvaan to be Link, so when I couldn't cause the dreaded "Name already taken" I switched to a Tarutaru and became "Links Childhood"
He more or less looked like the original Link from Zelda on NES.
That name has carried over to FFXIV, since Link never had a last name, I used "Links Childhood" and now I am a Lalafell!!!
:)
Aeiouk- I had a Galka in Xi by the name of Aeiou, started as a mule but ended up playing as an alt. When server merges happened I got deported to Valefor and another mule that had been inactive (according to ffxiah) got the name. So I added the -k at the end to represent Kujata. Now I just use that as a surname for all my characters.
Mariko is from Elfen Lied even tho when I was trying to think up a name I started with Mari from Evangelion and just added a -ko to the end of it without thinking about it later.
Reisaki I used Rei from Evangelion and just added -saki to the end of it because of Katsuragi. This was also my main character in Xi.
Majoga being my screen name here I usually use as a character but I never created in Xiv. It's a combination of the first 2 letters of my name's put together. MA-tthew JO-hn GA-rcia
This'll probably get buried and I've posted it before, but here goes.
Robert is my name IRL. Keeps it simple!
"Redensa" started as the Dutch for "reason", which I adapted into the pattern for "Bunansa" from the Ivalice Final Fantasy games, because I'm a huge FFT fan. I studied mathematics and logic, so the concept of reason has a deep appeal for me.
I used to play several space battle type games, (homeworld, warheads, etc.) where I would always call myself "The Skull", which was the name of a space ship in a show from the 80's that used puppets, I was fond of. It was called Starfleet or something like that. (To my friends' amusement, I would almost always end up destroying my own ship by accident.)
Around the same time, I was a regular at several naughty chat rooms, where my handle was Baron von Knotty, which has it's own back story I won't get into (sinister laugh).
When I got FF11, I was going to call myself The Skull, but my friends exclaimed it was surely cursed, considering my losing streak using that name. After a bit of thought, I took Baron from my chat-room persona and Skull from my gaming persona and stuck them together, which seemed quite appropriate as originally I wanted to play mainly as a dark knight.
I've stuck with that name through several mmo's including rappelz, perfect world and of course ff11 and 14. Typically, folks just call me "Baron" in party situations, (although I occasionally run into someone who refuses to call me by a royal title).
My name is totally self made, I wanted something with fantasy feel and as unique as it can be. However surname was based on Lina Inverse ... yeah, I know what you want to tell me right now heh.
If there will be any chance to change it, I will surely use it ... to many people use it and nobody wants to be compared to a little flat chested magician, who could annoy even buddha itself ;)
Due to the Game of Thrones series on HBO i'm sure the history of my character name is widely known lol.
I'm a big fan of A Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R.R. Martin. Being that he likes to kill off characters so much I chose one of the safest ones I liked. Benjen of house Stark, one of the 4 great houses of Westeros and first ranger of the Nights Watch. Benjen went on a ranging in book 1 and has been missing ever since. there has been 4 books since then. since no one "really" knows what happend to him I figure it's a safe play to use his name lol.
I've seen a lot of Starks running around though, and i may change it in ARR also due to the fact there wasn't too much thought put behind it and my character looks nothing like him.
Around the time I was creating my character, Ferne posted a thread about Lalafell naming conventions. Based upon those conventions I made up my name: Hestern Nestern. It is rather simple but it is also rather important to me to maintain the authenticity of the world (I'm a roleplayer).
It was only later that I realized that HESTERN related to YESTERDAY and NESTERN is (possibly) a German word meaning NESTS [possibly without the N at the end]. So...Yesterday's Nests. :P I feel awesome right now.
I am loving this thread by the way...so many pages to read! It will take me a long time to read through them but I really want to -- I am actually learning a lot of really interesting stuff...and I am reading a new manga thanks to Zetsubou!
Thank you LapuLapu for this marvelous thread!:cool:
Diyne is a chemestry term, though the name was originally meant to be 'Dyne' which is a measurement of force in Physics. When I couldn't spell it as such in World of Warcraft, I spelled it Diyne and have kept with it ever since. I still use Dyne in some single player games. It worked ironically well in Skyrim, and I had a good chuckle when the first dragon shout you got was 'Force'. It felt like a good name being a knightly sort of character. Like an immovable object. A force to be reckoned with, sort of idea.
I needed something to rhyme with the first name, being a lalafell. One of my favorite foods is squid and I like evergreen trees, so i used the japanese word for squid (Ika) and Pine. So Ikapine. Though, pine can also mean "to yearn or long for deeply", (typically used in a romantic sense when 'pining' after women.) This wound up with some friends and me joking about me having some kind of obsession with squid, or that I call at them. So nicknames like 'Squid caller' came up as well.
And no, I don't have an obsession with squid, but they are kind of cute. And delicious.
Mine is..... not terribly interesting. =w=;;
Way back in high school I was registering for a forum, and I wanted a new username. After several minutes of derping around, I remembered a certain fluffy blue dragon-bird from Pokemon, and tried to use that. I can't spell very well at all.
A few years of adding a's and moving things, Alteiriaa happened, and I've stuck with it since.
Advance years forward from that point, I was just creating my cat, tweeking until I was pleased with her, and got to the naming bit. Normally, I would use forementioned username, but then I'd need a second one. So I went eh, cut the name in half, and swapped the ends around.
Poof, Riaa Alteir!
Some of my alts I put slightly more thought into. Ryue Heirhyn (and even this may be misspelled. XD), who I made first really, was ment to be sorta close to Red Herring. Rumour Hasit is pretty self explainitory. Both are Lalas, and I really like them even if I didn't play with them much. ^^;
My chocobo is Worf. Partly because Star Trek, and partly because it amused me greatly to be traveling Worf Speed.
Amyas Leigh, from the Adventures of Sir Amyas Leigh otherwise known as Westward Ho! by Charles Kingsley. I... I read alot.
I would have gladly started a thread like that but wouldn't be able to claim credit for the original idea.
If anyone would like to post that information in the same fun manner I suggest you post it in Charmin's thread^^ it's a good one!

Well the name Gagusho just came to me when I was little and used it for FFXI.
For surname I picked Tsukiyo which means moonlit night in Japanese and I picked that because I really enjoy watch the moon at night.
Well my character's name is Mola Mola, which is named after the ocean sun fish. It's a big fish, hence I'm a Lala. My mules are both Lala, the first is named Molli (a little fish) and Twinkle (a toy fish).
Name: Amma
Meaning: Godlike
Gender: Female
Origin: Hindi
This was my characters name in WoW when it was a female blood-elf. When I did a change and became male blood-elf, I wanted the same meaning and found....
Name: Ultman
Meaning: Godlike
Gender: Male
Origin: Hindu
Sticking to Paladin, so I named my character Amma Ultman.
My chocobo's name is Magizzle, which was my original mage characters name on WoW, which comes from Snoop Dogging the word "Magic"
Well... Originally I just like the name Priya.. turns out it means this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priya
Couldn't think of a last name.. Found Eridian while perusing the web for pretty much anything that sounded interesting. Turns out it is derived from Eris: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Eris
I'm a troll (some days), so something that roughly amounted to beloved/dear + discord/chaos/strife... while sounding totally cute, won me over.
Had no idea about the Borderlands connection.
Chocobo: "Albatross" for the ship from Skies of Arcadia + the whole bird thing.
Companion: "Grantham" cause he's a posh elezen, I couldn't think of anything, Downton Abbey is brilliant, and the name just sounds cool.
"Imago" = Image
"Dei" = God
often appearing in Latin as "Imago Dei", is a concept and theological doctrine in Christianity which asserts that human beings are created in God's image and therefore have inherent value independent of their utility or function.
I like the healer/WHM role, so it fit perfectly.
My Choco is named "Quickfeet"
Long Story: unreal tournament 99' I used to play a LOT. Eventually managed to kick some serious ass at that game. People accused me of botting, (programmable aiming) and so most people didn't want to play against me. I was so invested in that game I even made custom maps, sounds, texture art and static meshes (in-game objects). That game got me interested in game development.
It came to the point where I had come up with aliases in order to battle others, "Imago Dei" was one of them, that stuck with me.
just made diff ways to say my name and put them together, my real name is Matthew.
My account name is Pebe, as this was the name of my Final Fantasy 11 character. It actually came from the auto name feature and I took a liking to it. Why? I don't know, I was 12 at the time.
My FFXIV character is named Aeternus Nihilim. Aeternus is Latin for eternal and Nihilim is Latin for nothingness. This name was inspired by Xemnas' speech at the end of KH2. "If light and darkness are eternal, than nothingness too is eternal." (Yes i am a nerd >.>) All my friends think this name emo, so it may change for 2.0, although I'm kind of partial to Aeternus. Will probably just change the last name.
I guess we are doing chocobo names too, soooooo:
My chocobo is named photon, which is a quantum of light. Basically I wanted to name my chocobo after the speed of light and photon sounded catchy >.>.
I'm loving reading all of these posts ^_^
I hope you'll choose a name because you like it rather than because of others' reactions to it. Names we choose for ourselves can be our truest representations of what we love or want or respect. I think that's really awesome and in no way should it ever be based on what another wants from you... Your name is about you, more so even than your birth name which you had no control over. I really hope that everyone can love their own name, the name that they came up with to express themselves as.
Being "a nerd" isn't anything to be ashamed of either, it just means you have loves and interests in the world around you. What's wrong with revelling in the miracles (scientific or otherwise) of the universe? I'd say nothing at all is wrong with that!
Heh, nothing special in my case.

If were adding Goobbue and Chocobo names.
Goobbue = Mossface
Chocobo = MrFeathers
Both are self-explanitory
Reinheart
For some unknown reason... since I was a child playing Final Fantasy II (JP)... I kept on calling the main character ラインハルト Rainharuto (Rainhart) when it was supposed to be レオンハルト Leonharuto (Leonhart). There are other anime/game that uses ライン (Rain) so I guess that was stuck in my head... then when XI came out... I wanted a FF character name but ended up misspelling the character name and ended up with Reinheart... and kept it until now. I like it personally so probably not going to change this name.
Last name Valentine
Wife and I both like Vincent Valentine from FFVII so we took his last name. Reinheart Valentine & Dante Valentine.
Her first name Dante is from DMC.
Because I love people coming up to me and pointing out that Mjollnir is a hammer not an axe, as if I had made a ghastly mistake.
Wish we were on the same world so I could affectionately call you "Meow-meow" :D
Tryst is my favorite word in the English language. I first came across the word in Lord of the Rings.
Gandalf: " But such a thing has not happened before, that Gandalf broke tryst and did not come when he promised. "
The Wildkey is part of my husbands FFXI name, which we adopted as our last name in FFXIV.
I guess I can add my chocobo names too. So so far: Llen Coram = Me. Completely original name and currently my favourite name I've ever created.
Chocobo: Kwefka. 'Cause obviously.
Goobbue: Lord Chompington, Duke of Vylbrand.
My retainer's (original) name is Placentia. I specifically chose her because of her name, because obviously her parents must have hated her. Thought I'd give her some love and affection for once in her life. Twelve know, with a name like that it must have been slim pickings.
I hope we can name our Legacy Chocobos! I'll be naming mine Black Waltz after the villainous mages from FFIX, a fitting match for its blackened feathertips :D
Also, I'm thinking of changing my surname for A Realm Reborn. I already posted in this thread describing the Lycaeus part, but I'm starting to lean more towards something like Alexandros, or Alixandre. My favourite summon in Final Fantasy is Alexander, and IX is my favourite Final Fantasy game, so I am a huge advocate of Alexandria. Andreas Alexandros.. hm.. the double A does look a bit strange, but I'm warming to it :)
