Catapult: I love that you used an element from the Uldah opening story that's so iconic of the city (no flowers grow in the desert, so they're so rare/important!) It would be a fitting tribute.
Rahsch: Neat design, cute Miquote. What stats did you have in mind for your ring?
Gramul: I'm glad you finished it! Do I see chocobos and a moogle? What else do you have hidden in there?

Good job everyone! Here's my ring. I found the character limits very restricting, but I hope the humor/irony I was trying to get across in my design is clear lol. I wanted the ring to appear unrefined because people who do "end game" content have such an abundance of Dark Matter from dud chests nobody would ever treat it with care like a gemstone.

The colored gems represent the dominant colors in the grand company banners. Stats are overpowered now that I look at everyone's xD They said powerful so i went with 10% all attributes ( would end up with 30-35 a stat if you're already at stat caps before hand with double/tripple melded gear ).

Love the ring but I'd suggest another effect. In theory very cool - but in practice it will be that ring you equip and de-equip all the time (which is an annoyance). If perhaps the rings effect wouldn't activate for an hour + after equipping then it would demote removing it frequently - otherwise another effect entirely I would suggest (perhaps regenerating some equipment durability per X interval (x being something like time (this would have to be active time, otherwise people would go afk with it on), monster kills, exp, and such)).

Again love the ring! I'd just hope not to see encouraging rushed gear swapping - kill monster get key, change ring - get items, change ring back. Besides, you want people to wear your cool ring longer then it takes to open a chest ^^

Edit: another one, increase a helpful stat every time you loot dark matter (to a cap amount based on level of dark matter) - once the cap is reached your chance of loot is increased (doubled?) - reset stats to base and loot % once non darkmatter loot rewarded (stats also lose a buff stack on de-equiping - would have to be a level 1 all classes ring then (otherwise changing classes would kill it)).
Sort of complex but it would promote using the item for those dark matter chests (where you got its hilarious name from) and would also promote wearing it afterwards as well.

You did not miss any lore because Gungolir is my creation. He was a large dragon who I was designing for the final battle in one of my roleplaying games when I was much younger. My campaigns were heavily influenced by the first six Final Fantasy games, which were a huge part of my childhood. This particular boss had very high defense, and was nearly impossible to hit if his attention was on you.

Unfortunately I never got to use him in my games, and I don't remember exactly why, but I dug up some notes on him some time ago. It reminded me how much fun I had back then, but also how much I missed it and how much I regret not doing more. It sort of struck me that I feel very similar about the Final Fantasy series now: How great the previous games were, the failure of FFXIV 1.0, and the hope I have for A Realm Reborn.

Gunslinger: I think you're on to something! Pretty clever!
Shogun: I agree 100% with your concern and it was a concern of mine when I submitted this ring, but the contest rules are clear that you have a 50 character limit for your ring stats and I think I used 41. I was actually considering that equipping the ring would give an extended weakness to prevent gear swapping, but when I started counting characters I knew even rewording I couldn't get the description I wanted the devs and players to understand and also have two "special" stats on the ring. Hopefully, if the devs and the players like my ring they'll find a way to appropriately balance it. Thank you for your feedback.

And yes, I drew my ring only using MS paint. Took me a few hours to do.... Using the pencil crayon effect around the edges really gives it a soft, smooth look to it.

That design for the ring isn't copyrighted though, so it doesn't belong to ANYONE.

I voted for #9. It was kind of a tough decision, but I chose the one that I would want to wear.

I'm not gonna lie, while I'm slightly disappointed that I didn't get farther (though I didn't get my hopes up), I'm more disappointed in the overall final roster.

It (at least to me) seems like the selections choices were adjusted with respect to an even spread across region, artistic talent, and future renderability, which is economical and fantastic public relations, but leaves out a lot of really high quality designs I saw along the way (some in blogs, some in this thread, etc.)

Congratulations to those who won, at least! I just wish I knew more about these rings ... their stats, lore, and symbolism. Wasn't SE supposed to display your ring name and caption? Did they forget all that? We can't even see the stats! Never mind specifics, but just like ... a general idea would be nice.

I'd like what I vote for to earn my vote with its soul, not its appearance. The ring with the little plant bud really speaks to me that way. It's like the first seeds of rebirth... That or the Fenrir ring. I like the whole Fenrir v. Odin part of Norse mythology, and I'll really buy into just about anything that's black and purple at this point.

Still, my highest motivation for voting is the possible reward for voting... which rubs me all kinds of wrong. Come on, SE, if I can't root for a design by me or someone I know, let me root for something I'm invested in. Tell meh more.

I think all winners are really well made.
Some of them are truly original and some even tell stories.

My favourite ring, that was posted here long ago got under the top 10 and so I voted for it now.

I guess they didn't show stats since they might be changed by the developers.
So all we can do is to vote for a ring that we would like to see in ARR. And I want to see number 3 cuz it will remind us of the current story, the last battle, how we "survied" etc.

I would have voted for No. 1 too because its just too funny and kinda cute.
If you don't like most of the designs just vote for the one u could "accept" as the winner ^^

Part of this contest was submitting a ring name, stats and description, which I think is really vital to being able to make a confidant vote here. There are some rings that I can tell what they probably are by looking at them, and some rings where I'd really like to have some context on what the artist was going for. If my ring (posted above, "Dark Matter Ring") had made it to the finals it's quite unremarkable in appearance, but it can bring a smile when you understand how it sits against the game's culture and lore. I wonder how the finalists feel about their rings sitting on the vote page with no caption?

Congrats to all the finalists. You can tell everyone put alot of love and care into this contest. Good luck in the poll!
