The models will likely be shelved for a while and perhaps reintroduced later. But I doubt any of them will be around once ARR starts...

A debuff class will be interesting though. It definitely hints to the game having more than just the WS-spam-kill-in-20-sec-mobs that the most recent Yoshi interviews have covered.

Either that or this job and class are going to be designed around boss battles only.

As far as the other summons, we already have art/models for: Typhoon, Siren, Fenrir, Cait Sith, in addition to the normal primals... so I think SMN will have lots of options.

The art sure makes it look like the summons will be ghostly shadows of the real summons -- perhaps Carbuncle is the only 'Pet' and the others are all one-shots? Hmm...

I propose a new class. Booksmith. Books will require pages and leather bindings, so booksmiths will have to not only plane lumber down, but also make leather. You'll need both LTW and CRP at 50 to unlock BKS.

I'd figure you would need crp to craft parchment, alc to craft ink for writing arcane/eldritch lore, and ltw for the actual bookbinding

Haven't gone through the thread but in case no one has translated what was said, the books will be physically thrown at the monsters, according to Matsui san and Yoship.

listen its ok with me... we have summoner.. and what we summoned in 11 was their astral form after beating them and getting them to basically agree to master them... a tanking and caster form for carby.. plus primals once we get the summoner job.. what do we have to complain about? DoTs.. Enfeebs.. summons... atleast i wont main healing like smn/whm from 11 and for those that complain about not having RDM well all RDM mained was dots and enfeebs... minus the upfront attacking from RDM.. SMN is pretty well done if you ask me no need for RDM job

that puts a whole new meaning behind having the "book" thrown at you....

Pretty sure that throwing the book was said in jest.

I envision a page lighting up out of the book and flying over to the mob like a projectile for an auto attack.

what i really want to know is if Summoner will get its own summons or if it will only summons like ifrits left arm or part of it which i think would be so lame i want a full body summon

I'd be fine with throwing books at people's faces. Specifically ones that teach people the difference between Red Wizards and gimpy mages.

There is a courthouse next door to the Arcanist's guild.

there are other games with books as weapons.... book will most likely flash and shoot a non-elemental bolt of some kind or the pages will move and from the casters hand a non-elemental bolt.. thats if they steal from other games.. unless they do their own thing

I hated that in XI back in 2003 after 2005 it was use as a DD in pt.

Being cute with another adjective can work for the most part...

but summoning carbuncle as a lalafel, makes me feel something to be desired... two cute things just doesn't work. Atleast a tonberry could work with a lalafel cute and creepy often go together.

Like everything there are exceptions. Girl lalafels riding carbuncle could overload anyone with adorebly cuteness.

But being a boy lalafel, I would like a creppy if not badass pet, such as a tonberry.

I'm refering to Auto-attack... but then again what caster uses auto-attack... I don't, especially in here, it stops mana regen.

In Ragnarok online the Sage smash his book in the enemy's face ^^

if you remember 11 both the SMN and Avatar are able to strike with an auto-attack for which i used with carby when soloing for a dual attack with meteor.. i believe it was the staves light elemental strike into meteor that worked.. cant remember exactly havent touched it since they altered the levels above 75 but it did insane dmg for for choosing to melee with SMN..

Am i the only one who does wonder how the summon system will work for Summoner and arcanist? for arcanist it seems like it will be a permanent pet to your side..,. but what about summoner? it seems that he just summons "ghosts" or something that of an ifrit... maybe just summon a one-hit attack? that would be just so awful..


i want to know: which pets does the arcanist has (only carby?) and which kind of pet types the summoner uses?

I can't wait to see how the class/job combos.

(EX:Carbuncle 1.Poison Nails>>>2._______>>>3.______???)
