Real talk; the lack of Job-specific STORY content is really hurting my excitement...

I would rather the job quests be integrated into the MSQ proper. Those solo instances never actually require the player character to do anything but DPS. Other NPC's will heal them. That is however the perfect place to actually have them. Otherwise make those "role play" instances where any other party member in the party gets to RP the other NPC's in that instance. It is somewhat annoying to have to drop out of the party to do the solo instances, and many players just choose to do them with a DPS role because when you do it as a healer it just takes 10 times longer (as it should if they are being forced to DPS.)

What we got in Shadowbringers and Endwalker was kind of a "here's an optional set of 5 or so quests that aren't actually specific to your job, just your party role." Why not just weave that directly into the story using what the player's job was in the previous quest completed. If the player doesn't want to proceed in the current job, they can switch by re-activating the last story quest with a different job. Honestly the endwalker healer quests... you barely did any healing.

I'm not asking that the MSQ revolve around the job quest, but maybe some direct acknowledgement within the quests, actually playing the healer role in solo duties, and not making the player character so quick to choose violence when they aren't playing those roles at the moment. Mostly what we get are a few nods or references.

One thing that is sorely omitted are how crafters even fits in the game. The MSQ goes along without acknowledging ANY of the crafting you do, only one offhand comment in the endwalker Alliance raid even mentions this. Story for the crafting jobs is just barely present, which makes you kinda disincentivized to play the crafting jobs for the story. I know there is no way to both be "the warrior of light" and "the crafter of sultana's music box" acknowledged in the story but please, when a story calls on "getting arms", "armor", "tools", etc why don't NPC's ask for your expertise in building something.

The way I see it, job quests are important because they build on the one non-cosmetic in-game characteristic of the WoL that the player gets to choose.

The MSQ may require the WoL to be a blank slate for the sake of convenience, but job quests offer a bit of story content that (probably) matches better with the type of character you’d prefer your WoL to be. After all, you didn’t go into character creation for the first time and make “the Warrior of Light, Hydaelyn’s favorite chosen one, famous and beloved savior of the world”. That came later. When you made your first character, you made a paladin, or a black mage, or a bard, or whatever other job fit your idea of your character’s personality. Getting to be that, the job you chose, was the original promise.

In practice, job quests varied in quality. This thread has some posts to the effect of “(insert quest chain) was bad, so throwing out the whole system was the right choice”, but my takeaway is the opposite: there have been bad job quests and good job quests, and the good ones prove that the concept can be executed well.

Personally, I didn’t enjoy the role quests in Shadowbringers and Endwalker. They felt like half-baked filler episodes of the MSQ. Since they're all designed to be interchangeable, they feel unimportant and boring, which creates this weird tonal dissonance with the fact that they're all connected to some potentially world-ending cataclysm. Hopefully, Dawntrail’s role quests will at least have their own stories, instead of being offshoots of the MSQ with a repetitive formula. That would be a massive improvement on its own. I'm not holding my breath, but I think it's at least a remote possibility.

I don't miss them. Half of the job quests suck out loud so having less of them to do is more of a boon than a bust.

I'm fine with role quests.

Yes, it'd be theoretically nice to see more job quests. But the longer running jobs idk what they'd even do at this point.l don't feel like ninja and monk for example need any more stories. Paladin ran out of ideas years ago and stopped even trying to be about paladins. DRK SB imo was a bit step down from HW DRK.

The only jobs where I feel like really have missed opportunities begging to be explored are dancer and reaper having a chance to have quests in their respective homelands added in EW.

ARR had what, 10 jobs including Ninja added mid ARR. Then it was 13. 15. 19. 21. Soon to be 23. Well over double the jobs we had in ARR launch. And having to come up with new engaging stories for each of them every expansion, plus the development resources to make all of them? From a pragmatic resource management standpoint, it makes sense to consolidate them into role quests.

I do think that role quests could often do a better job though of showing their connection to their roles. The Phys ranged EW quests for example call for a 'marksman' but it never really felt like that was important for actually dealing with the problem at hand.

There is much room for improvement in making these quests actually about these roles even if not the specific jobs that are included.

I would love to run into Job story NPC's in some of these new zones. Doesn't have to be a whole quest, could just be like a conversation moment as they tour some new zones.
Or even some kind of correspondence. One thing I liked in SWTOR was sometimes you would complete a quest helping/not helping someone and then you'd get a message sent to you from that character with an update after the quest resolved (and sometimes gifts/currency).

Plus, I feel like Jannequinard would 100% pen pal the WoL, even if we never replied.

I get it's more work, but wishing is free ya know? There are so many random filler city quests that are not a priority for myself to do. I would sacrifice any number of those for something a little more catered to my WoL's narrative, versus, "hey go find this guy/collect these items, thanks for finding that guy/collecting these items, now lets never interact ever again."

Wish there was more to Reaper lore then just Garleans are Gangsters. Such a Shame we will never have any lore surrounding our loyal Voidsent Steeve.

role quests are fine now, mainly because i dont want to waste my time working on jobs i'd never use for actual content, if my rdm can cover the magic stuff im good with that, same with my drk, mch and reaper.........sch too since it comes with another job for free.

i hard agree, i want to see the job quest return, I loved seeing the role and impact of each job on every new culture and the role they play in the social hierarchy. the job quest doesn't need to be us learning from so lost master that can take us to the next level yet again, but just culturally significant members of or job faction that are seeking help with their own journey, perhaps let us play the role of master training new disciples.

If they aren't rebuilding Job quests, then at least keep adding content to MSQ that refers your expertise of Jobs that you have leveled and make more use of the still present Job related NPCs.

If job quests aren't returning I would at least like to see the job quest characters return in MSQ or sidequests more significantly. A bunch of them show up for a little during Stormblood, Shadowbringers and Endwalker, but I would like it if they were involved more significantly.

Honestly, I think for what is supposed to be a "slice of life" expansion, the return of Job-specific stories would have been a great addition.

Otherwise, all of these jobs just totally bleed together.

Me too, like there would be situations where it's fit. Could be just general quests with special quest dialogue if you're doing in the specific job.

For example, I think it's WILD that in the expansion we visit Thavnair, and fight an evil that is very similar to the Totentanz, we have absolute zero participation of the Falsiam Troupe in their homeland, one of the most affected places.

I know that Dancers and their quest lore came before the idea of Dynamis and the concepts of Endwalker, but that would certainly be a good thing to retcon: The totentanz being dynamis, and led to be believed otherwise because people knew no better (unreliable narrators).

I just wish they weren't so averse to addressing job lore when it becomes relevant in the main story... Out of fear of favoritism, I guess?

Like there really should have been a Dancer quest in Thavnair for example. Something to address Summons suddenly changing with the Loporrits. Or explain us why Scholar is an angel summoner now. And you know the Thirteenth is going to become relevant again sooner or later and it's going to be really silly if you don't address how Reaper is affected.

And so on. They don't need to be full 10 level questlines, but just something to make the jobs feel more alive in the world.

I agree with this, even if it was backloaded the PCT quest moved me more than most of Dawntrail. It's fun to imagine more where they do the FF6 Ultros jokes and the like.

We're really missing a lot of class flavor, FF homages, etc by not having this. Roles in this game don't have enough identity.

Cut out the side quests if it's an issue of labor. Side quests have been so ignored they don't even scale right with XP in Dawntrail.
