#1Housing is in limited supply, if people want access to housing, if their isnt a open plot, someone house is going to have to be demolished first. (telling them to completely scrap ward housing isnt going to happen, either)

#2 You can make multiple rooms and floor out of an apt as ive shown, but lets pretend that you cant do anything like that with an apt because it doesnt suit the narrative.

#3 If they cant even increase our outdoor item slots by 5 due to the server load it would cause. How do you expect everyone to have access to exteriors? I mean Island Sanctuary is coming and you can already use potted plants indoors.

#4 I think the housing system is extremely solid, for what they tried to do. Im with you on needing 25/50 more slots for a Apt and shared access. But thats it, i think the system is fine as it is. A room is more then enough if you can get creative with it.

Youre saying they wont move, but looking at it, its a no brainer to swap to something that isn't going to be demolished for the same size of a small.

It is still a very small space and there is no exterior, they need more slots, you can’t have tenants, no garden, no real room for utilitarian furniture unless you scrap your plans for a nice decoration, only 4 personnel npcs. Everyone I know with a house also has an apartment and an fc room. They are not a house replacement.

TBH all im seeing are excuses. Yes, apts are more limited then a house, just like a Small house is limited compared to a medium. You can make a second floor and rooms to your apt, but im seeing people simply swat that to the side and saying "no"

You wanna plant things but you're not willing to work around the item limit to do so, that's not S.E problem that is YOUR problem (i can agree on increasing the item limit, but size? No, Try your luck for a house just like the rest of us.

Learn to work around the limitations, rather then saying "i dont wanna do this" and "i dont wanna do that" If i wanna get some potted plants in my apt, i can edit the design to accommodate for them, if i want utility items inside my apt, i work it into the design.

All im hearing is "I dont wanna do any of that"

Anyway, SE promotes this game saying I can own and build my own house, they should make it possible. It’s simple. If they don’t want to invest to provide sufficient wards/houses, then they should provide instanced housing and bigger apartments.

Here I thought we might have been making some headway, but I was wrong. If you would have read ANY of my posts, you would have seen that I wasn't asking them to scrap the ward system. I just want them to make something better that everyone can have access to, like full instanced housing for example (No, apartments aren't what I'm talking about, but I'm pretty sure you know that, though maybe not! Either way, this is for clarity. You can't say it wasn't said. I've covered what I view as full housing in previous posts.) I also said nothing about increasing apartment slots/space or adding shared access, though I don't think I'd have a problem with either. I hope that response is adequate. Once again, you are just hearing whatever you want to hear, even if it wasn't said at all. SE doesn't need you to defend them. They're grown adults with full time jobs. They'll be okay. funny how they can't add more houses because "server load". Yet games like ESO, Lineage 2 and some other MMO's have made housing so easy why can't these guys get it right. Yet we can do DC traveling soon which I am sure that puts a strain on servers

I seek nothing. I'm answering your question and giving examples as to why, even if given a identical space to decorate with the same functionality as a small house, an apartment lacks things that people want and will never be possible to duplicate in an instanced format.

I don't know why you're acting like I'm advocating for or against anything.

What is house demolition?

I'm just curious because i assumed people lose their houses and they go back on the market if people do not log in and enter their house for a set period of time.

Exactly that.

There is a timer that triggers if you do not enter your house (as in actually go in the door) for a long period of time. It gives you warnings (ingame and email) after about 35 days and then if you STILL do not enter your house at 45 days, all your stuff that is possible to be removed is "stored" with a NPC in the housing district (everything else is destroyed) and your lot goes back up for sale. I also believe you are refunded a fraction of the houses Gil cost from the same NPC. The recovery of your items has a expiry date as well, so if you lose your house and then do not retrieve the stored contents and gil, you will eventually lose that too.

It's just called demolition.

Right now though that timer has been paused.. as the thread laments... because of world issues potentially causing people to be unable to login or play games.

While it would be nice if demolition would resume, demolishing a couple of dozen houses per world is not going to provide enough houses for the thousands of players trying to obtain them. It ends up just another in a series of bandaids that cover the wound but do not heal it.

If you genuinely want a house, you should be discussing how to fix the problem instead of asking for something already added that has been proven not to work.

Lol excuse my way of typing, it tends to rub people the wrong way. Kinda shoot from the hip, i just say how i feel thats all.

If they decided to make the top floor a shared balcony where players can buy a 1 time fee patch of dirt to cross-breed their Thanavarian Onions and the like to the hearts content. I would like that.

Would i mind if they turned the Apt size into the basement size of a small? Not at all! I can suggest and get behind that with a item increase.

But giving apts 2 floors like a small? Ok thats where i draw the line, where it starts to encroach on small houses IMO.

I in part purchase 6 month subscriptions in part due to me not wanting to lose something ive spent 6 years building up and developing my own approach for trying to brainstorm character room ideas. And to have that consistent threat of taking a break for abit too long, and you can come back to nothing. As a owner of both a FC house and Pvt house, if i lose one, im likely going to lose the other.

But if i can have a permanent version of my Smalls that the only trade-off is Cross-Breeding and a 16 slot yard? You bet your sweet cheeks, im moving EVERYTHING to an Apt and i wouldn't look back. The fact i can no longer lose something that had so much time and effort put into it due to to a demolishion timer. Is IMO a benefit that far outweighs a 16 slot yard and the ability to cross-breed.



Do i feel the apts are sufficient as is? Creativity, yes.

Should they get access to Cross-breeding? Yes

Item increase: Yes

Size increase: Sure!

Floor increase? No.

To be flat out honest, my experience in person is the complete opposite, people find me easy to approach and talk to (once they get over the aggressive looking appearance). Its complete dissonance, so why should i care what a bunch of FF14 nobodies think, when it holds no weight against peoples opinion that have more a substantial and direct interaction with me? But i have no issue wearing the label if they want. (Call it rude but its thats pretty conventional wisdom)

Personally myself, Im full on homes. I transferred off Brynildr, where i have to leave my medium. And on Excalibur nothing was available, so i settled for my Apt in hopes that id get lucky and get a house

And i had this Apt for a year or so, until Shirogane came out, once i logged into Shiro and saw wasn't much hope if i stuck around, i bailed on it and went to the Mist instead. And i found a open plot there and purchased it. Eventually of course i found a open house in the Lavender Beds, i purchased as an FC home, but i wasn't a fan of the location...But one day, heading back to my house i noticed the house next door to my private was demolished, so i moved my FC house there.

I got my house in the (mostly) same system you did. I was patient and i waited until something freed up. I didnt click a placard for 12 hours. if nothing was open, id leave n check back later. I didnt realize the sheer extreme lengths people went to get a house until i started looking at the housing forum section.

Its hard for me to see a flaw with the system when its very clear that housing is a limited resource and apts were what i could get if i couldn't get a house and i simply worked around the Apts limitations to make something i was happy within the space i had to work with, until i could get another house. Should you be able to cross-breed stuff? Add in a shared balcony on the room of the Apt and let players plant stuff up there. Item limit increase? Yes. Giving apts space of a small basement? Yes. Making apt 2 floor like a house? No.

Auto Demolition should definitely be resumed by now. When I read that it was happening in the first place I thought it was a joke

Well it's still better than nothing, right? If people are resubbing to FFXIV I don't see how that's bad for Square Enix.

At this point, Square should either commit to addressing the supply issue with more wards planned on a concrete date in the future, or just commit fully to the status quo and turn on demolition again.

I hate demolition. I think it's stupid and nonsensical. But it's the only mitigating factor this current system has. Right now Square is half-implementing a housing system that relies on a revolving door effect that isn't happening because homes owned by inactive accounts aren't being relinquished. So either fix the gridlock by introducing more wards, or stop half assing your current system and just bring back demolition and cut down on this fc-only nonsense so your current system can begin to function even a little bit. There'll still be gridlock and shortages (which is why increasing the supply with more wards is a better solution) but it'll be better than nothing if this is really all we can get. For me, adding more wards is infinitely preferable.

That being said, I'm genuinely curious why they've been able to add new wards before, but now people want to act like it's an impossibility when it's brought up. I sure hope in their next live letter, the 2 billion dollar company talks about this so random fanboys can stop speaking on their behalf about their technical limitations.

What was even the point to introduce this lottery system if no houses will be made available via vacancies for anyone to even bid on? After people are done claiming relocation openings from people moving to the Empyreum, that'll be it. It's over. No houses are left to bid on. So are we waiting on new wards then? What houses are we bidding on. Where are they coming from. Because with demolition off, there won't be openings. and if they're not adding wards then there's no openings either. Is that it then? Players get a chance at housing once every 2 years after building a new housing zone? What's going on, they need to clarify a little further than just "the fc wards will be available to private buyers soon". Thanks for that, but those will fill too. and then guess what, there's still hundreds of people still waiting for houses to bid on. Where are these houses supposed to come from? Or is housing going to be something that only older players get to have then and newer players should just forget ever wanting one because demolition seems too mean? What's the plan, what's the next move.

Their ability to add new wards is contingent on not only acquiring new custom hardware but also having their own blessed team of operations acolytes install it.

Pre-COVID this was already a challenge because they insisted on a specific flavor of hardware and only let their specifically trained people perform the installations. COVID triggered both supply-chain issues and a massive worker shortage. The semi-conductor industry has been particularly hard hit by both. As much money as Square has at its disposal it does not require the volume of chips that the automotive industry does. Since supply is short the one or two remaining chip fabs in the world have dedicated the bulk of their production facilities to the industry that can actually pay them billions.

The accepted theory is that the ward system is hideously inefficient. The SWAG is that the same server racks that mange the wards could handle far more housing if they were instanced.

I like how some people think they can magically create new wards for every server in the game. In theory that could be true, but could it crash the world? Probably.

Like in my operations, I can put a few commands to start up new instances of servers if it's needed, but there is what I call a "credit limit". Plus more does not always mean better in our world, in my example say the servers aren't optimized to run beyond 20 instances currently. We would need to optimize the code to work better for 30 instances. Might even need more new hardware for CPU power and storage.

Like a ward obviously has a lot storage requirements, it also in a sense adding more maps to the server to track so that's also capacity. Server C might have capacity for a few more wards, but servers E-G does not. Obviously they will go with until all servers can have the capacity to add X amount of wards, they won't add any. It's quite a process that likely has it's own roadmap and project plan.
