Game designers too, actually. Graphics engineers too, if my memory on the latter serves me correctly. But they're definitely hiring designers. Which is starkly different from translators.

As per the note on the restoration that did play a part in it but they were so wildly unattuned to the significant grind, time gated or not. This is pretty much evidenced by the simple fact this self-same feedback and mentality echoed through the Resplendent tools.

jep Avangers was bad but it seems that Babylon's Fall Is Dead On Arrival and Flops Worse Than Marvel's Avengers, but well it what happens to many Live Service games lately maybe companies should look into that instead of keep making them .

I don't really think 2 weeks is a lot to ask, even tho, with the popularity of the game and new cash flows they could try to hire a little bit more to provide same schedules, not sure !

I had to laugh at Babylon's Fall. SE releases a new game...and no one showed up. It was their own fault though. That game wasn't promoted much of anywhere and there was next to nothing known about it. It seems like they knew it was destined to fail.

Because Yoshi P believes in playing more than just one game. Maybe you don't, personally I just stick to FFXIV, but sometimes a break can be good to avoid burn out. They also can't put out content faster due to how fast people consume the content.

I like to blame the old school mentality that one has to be glued to one MMO, treat it as a 2nd job and play it 24/7 to feel any validation for paying a subscription. The whole idea of paying a sub is to continue playing a game that will GET updated not that it spoon feeds you new activites all at once. Its ok to unsub and resub when content patches come in. Its ok to take breaks and play other games. Stop with this mentality that the game needs to give you new content asap. Its seriously unhealthy.

We're going to get more content, we literally just saw the road map. And if people seriously think that the whole 4 months per patch thing is the final nail on the coffin for this game to start losing subscribers...yeah sure Jan. Still have managed to find a reason to log on daily for almost 2 years now for reasons outside of just doing my daily/weekly tasks.

For example: Doing old content, achievement/title hunting, helping out people with their clears, trying to solo/duo fights, glamour farming, pvp binging, reputation grind for mounts, making friends, gpose, alt leveling...I can keep going on but it's really not hard to find something else to do to occupy you in the meantime. Otherwise, can unsub and do something else till new patches arrive.

6.1 will make or break the game for me. I'm tired of running old content, tired of paying a sub for that stupid CT roulette. I bough EW to play my jobs at 90, do level 90 content. Not doing low level dungeons with trusts, or to play a more solo focused MMO. After 3,5 years, I've come to the point where I'm ready to let go my house and unsub for a long while.

AAA titles deliver less these days and has done so for at least last 10-15 years... it is often more eye candy than content in those, for FFXIV, you got alot of things to do, it is an RPG afterall... and it is an MMO as well.. which means it is a Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game.... keep an eye on MULTIPLAYER and ROLEPLAYING... which is the key factor of the game.

Try and dodge the massive player hubs here and there some more and quit idling... speak with people or whatever or interact with them... or do content with.

Budgets are built on projections of current behaviour, and are decided, generally, on an annual basis. SE has already built this year's budget, and the new content projected in the last several live letters is the result. They don't appear to be afraid of losing subscriptions, because they built that into their projections already.

Speeding up content to retain subscriptions is a losing battle, one that SE chooses not to engage in.

I'm ok with an extra 2 weeks because crunch makes bad games. OP just thinks programmers shouldn't get to work normal hours and should literally burn themselves out for his own entertainment.

This is a fair point of view. There were things in Heavensward post-MSQ that I couldn't get behind and decided to take a break for a year and try other games. I hit a point in Stormblood that I simply couldn't get past due to medical issues, so I stopped playing for a year or so. Since returning a couple months before Shadowbringers' release I've been playing every day. As much as I adored ARR; it's still the best time I've had in the game, the changes to classes and systems in EW has hit my sweet spot and I've played the game nearly every day since near the end of 2019.

I think part of what's kept me going is the extended breaks I did take let various things like Beast Tribes and other Take-it-Easy content build up. Now I've got a ton of things to do when I feel like doing them. One of the things that contributed to burn out in this, and previous MMOs I played, was thinking I always needed to be working toward a goal every day, to the exclusion of other things. Once I gave myself permission to be a butterfly and do whatever I felt like at any given time, my satisfaction with the game improved and my enjoyment of the time I spent in game increased quite a bit.

I'm not telling you that you need to play the way I do; this is our individual hobby and everyone needs to partake of it how they want. Please know that taking a break, whether it's long-term or a couple months between content patches, may be a net positive for you in the long run. Losing your house may suck; it's happened to me twice, but in the end I'm glad I did as I no longer had the pressure to stay subbed and therefore participating in something I was paying for to get something out of my money. I recently started an alt to play through ARR and HW again and found it to be quite refreshing and a lot of fun. Once I finish Shadowbringers I'll likely put her in stasis and get back to focusing on my main. The best thing is, she's an alt, so there's no pressure to continually advance her. If I feel like putting her aside for months or years, it won't impact my overall progression through the game. Perhaps this might be an option for you, too?

Giving yourself permission to simply derp around doing random things at times rather than being laser-focused on one or two aspects may improve your experience. It may not, and that's ok too. If you do choose to suspend your sub, I hope you come back in the future and enjoy what's available at that time.

Honest question, are there other activities you enjoy that you can do for hours upon hours for $15 or less for a whole month? I can go to a night of karaoke and have a blast for a few hours, but two beers with tip will run at least $20. I've been in financial situations where I had to be extremely thrifty with my money so the MMO I played was the only leisure activity I had outside of 100% free things. If you're also in that situation, I can fully understand how it could pain you to feel the need to unsubscribe. If that's not the case, perhaps playing a different game and XIV would help? In relative, real world terms, even if you played only three to five hours per month, you would still be getting more enjoyment-time per dollar than many other possible activities.

Why not give this a try? Keep your sub going, pop in for a few hours here and there to see your FC friends and maintain your house but spend the majority of your leisure time on something else. As I mentioned in the reply above yours, this may be all you need to increase your enjoyment of the time you spend in the game rather than forcing yourself to log in every day or two.

Dude, we're getting two ultimates during this patch cycle, a new type of dungeon, and a new deep dungeon. Alliance raid tier is coming out in 6.1 There is plenty of new content coming.

No other MMO releases the amount of content this game does in such a consistent schedule. Yoshi-P is also very clear that he doesn't expect people to constantly be subbed either. Go play something else between content patches, its not that big of a deal. Or would you rather they go the swtor route and drop content only once every 2-3 years with 30 minutes of story cutscenes?

Be at peace with things out of your control. You can't do anything about this anyways, why ruin your day by getting pissed off about it?

I’ll be frank, I’m not chuffed with it. Been playing since 2.0 and every major expansion I hear about a dial back of content in some way or another. I hope it’s well meant (and I was in the past supportive) but square-Enix don’t really seem to be acting in good faith of late (live service titles and NFTS) and while I adore the team behind ffxiv I think it would be foolish to uncritically accept what they say.

Or make the game your second job where you have to play everyday on multi-alts, and missing a week of grinding setting you back like Korean MMORPGs. Then you either find the grind too unbearable but cannot quit the game due to sunk cost fallacy and FOMO and has to spend money to give yourself some respite between grinds, or just quit the game altogether and never look back. Been there, done that.


I don't think people who treat MMORPG as some sort of "main game" where you have to log in every day to stay relevant is actually enjoying it. More like they are too addicted to think otherwise.

I think there's a difference between not having to play the game and wanting to play the game more if you want. There comes a point where you run out of things to do but still want to keep playing the game.

I have some questions for people who really want to have that one extra dungeon to play and think it adds meaningful variety, but asking for more content that you can waste time on is still entirely different from asking for more content that you have to do. It feels like people are willfully misinterpreting what people actually want.

I'm at least 97% sure it's because of current global situation and Yoshi-P doesn't want to overwork those who work for FFXIV

and based of your list I'm sure you could finish them all if you play everyday with at least 12 hours a day, not for someone who have busy offline activities

some players would log in and do simple stuff because it's their comfort game (me included)

4 Months are okay, 5 months are not. I mean I have other things I can do while waiting for content, Lost Ark and Elden Ring came in the perfect time.

Patch 6.1 is consistent with the release timing for 5.1 and 4.1. The .1 patch is always close to 4 months after expansion release. December 7 to mid-April is 4 months and a week, not 5 months.

Life goes on. There is always a new game being released, always a new series to watch on your favorite streaming site, always friends and family to deal with. Enjoy your time both in-game and out.

5 months of no MSQ for me is a no no. Its a long break to leave the finale and a new sotryline i dont like it. Im keeoping busy with alt job levleing and taking breaks although not currently un subbing

The beauty of taking control and being the master of your own choices , as an FF14 player , is that you can and should take a sub break I will do if i'm too bored to want to log in.

I wont sub , i see that as a waste of my money . There is soo much content on Steam to play or buy . Its a nice "bonus" that taking breaks from ff14 wont make me fall behind .

But yes 5 months gaps of content drought is painful . Its worse as this is a pay per month access game . In other games (live service) such as The Division 2 its been over a year since proper content came out and its looking like the game is dead in the water (new content looks like a PuBG ripoff f2p trash) so its easy to ignore as you dont need a sub to keep playing. Wow had some very long god awful gaps many many months and they design systems to be FOM grind fests of misery yet players til crave more of something at least.



Business team 3 needs to start making proper daily hubs( dedicated zones). If they did this and designed them well they could then give themselves a breather as players are engrossed for months doing well designed daily's in to mission to rank reputations get s cool unique rewards and unlock new dungeon's or raids/wings after wards.


I do miss the old school wow daily hubs (sunwell)

Out of curiosity, when did Pandaemonium drop? Wasn't it after launch and before 6.1? It sucks that we haven't gotten anything at all between launch and the patch coming in a month... :D

It doesn't matter if it's 4 months, or six. It's not like a whole lot changes with the patches anyway.

It's called giving your team a better quality of life where they aren't rushing things so that there are more potential bugs that get missed, and giving them time to actually work on stuff without burning out.

Because we're not bored and we still have reasons to log in. I have no reason to cancel my sub. If I don't play a day or two a week because I'm doing something else, that's not money I consider wasted. My rule of thumb is I don't log in unless I want to and I usually want to. When I don't, I do something else for the night.

Your process is fine for you but there's no reason to be stunned that others have difference experiences than you do.

Predictability and consistency is what they TRY to achieve vs what other games have. It's a tradeoff, sure it might not make content as exciting because you know what should be there, but it's also reliable. Something you can easily plan your life around. Besides, the only similar parts are usually the Raids, Trials, Dungeons. As we have seen in the Live Letters for 6.1, we will be getting items not consistent, such as a new and revamped PVP mode, Hildebrand quests, Ultimates, etc.
