I'd suggest you take a step back and look at the Reaper rotation again once you've time to get used to it, as it is indeed super smooth. And Monk still has two positionals. Positional reqs have been massively nerfed over the years, but they clearly aren't going anywhere on melee.

Reaper is exceptionally smooth and forgiving. I've been playing tanks for four years and figured out RPR very quickly. Loving the class atm, although I feel that Soul Slice/Soul Scythe could be an oGCD.

Reapers at 86 requiring players not living next to SE servers to clip twice during enshroud for extra 400 potency feels bad but at least it's nowhere near mch bad.

I like all the GCDs we have currently, it winds up giving us just enough gauge when we need it for reopeners and odd minute shrouds. If they changed Soul Slice & Scythe, it mess with the alignment without them tweaking other things as well

I agree with getting rid of positionals and SE continuing to dial back on them is a good sign.

I genuinely thought this would be the expansion where they *finally* got rid of them. Hopefully next expansion.

And cast times, ugh, all the swiftcasts and doublecasts and triplecasts just to work around such a clunky system

Reaper has been fun except for one small problem.......well big problem

Lemure's Slice weaving during shrouded mode, it's effectively 2 double weaves.

MCH is already basically hell to play for UK players on US servers, I thought they wouldn't do it again.

Oh please. Shroud is so simple. 2 GCDS > oGCD > 2 GCDS > oGCD >GCD.

The only caveat Reaper has is relatively limited use for Harvest Moon.

Just wandering why they make the "soul reaver"faded after landing anything but Gibbet and Gallows,which annoying me a lot

The problem is Lemure clips on any connection not close to the servers.

you can use Shadow of Death during shroud, so you can always use that to weave at least one slice, assuming you're at 30 seconds or less on Death's Design. Harvest Moon occasionally, too?

You're always going to do less dps than an equivalently skilled player on lower ping, regardless of how the job is designed. The priority should be on designing for fun gameplay, and Shroud with its 1.5s GCD hits the spot. It's also interesting to note that they could have done weaves on every GCD like GNB does, but it just wouldn't be nearly as satisfying. This has just the right rhythm.

I would strongly encourage more job design experiments like this.

The Lemure skills honestly shouldn't exist. They feel unneeded and removing them would help balance Reaper a bit more by lowering its dps.

I disagree, Shroud would be even more boring without it you'd just be spamming 1 2 with a 3 at the end.
Having something to weave makes it at least a little more fun even tho it's already pretty braindead as it is.

I'd much rather remove the Lemure weaves but increase the potency of the GCD reaps slightly to compensate (it is a 1.5 second GCD as it is!)

It's not as bad as MCH for clipping impact but it tries.

The best solution would be for SE to update the animation lock to allow more compensation for lag.

Soulsow/Harvest Moon does feel somewhat out of place. Gives you something to do during very long downtime, I guess? But an ability you press two, at best three times during a 10-min fight feels weird, and it's not that great damage anyway.

You use harvest moon between every single pull in dungeons though. And I'm really starting to miss having something like it in trials/raids that do have downtime on every job that just has to hang around.

In dungeons Soulsow is basically never used or I can't think of any immediate example at least where it is.
But in EX it is and I am sure it will be in Savage too.

Edit: I obviously mean the charging of it, not the instant inbetween pulls.

But the same could be said about basically any charge ability like that, it's the same with meditate on SAM for the most part.

Dungeon bosses don't go untargettable long enough for charging Soulsow to be viable.

In anycase, RPR is pretty much my main job and I'm sure with all the people calling for nerfs, it'll have like a 120% damage nerf so that even healers can outdps it.

My only complaint is that I don't like that the soul/shroud AOEs require targets, but that's tolerable since the basic AOEs do not.

Off the top off my head 3rd boss of level 83 and 85 dungeon and first boss of 87 dungeon. Like I know it's not even every other boss, but come on, why are we pretending downtime is never a thing?

Reaper should probably be nerfed, and I am saying this as someone that has switched to a reaper main. From the numbers we have now they are the top dps and they absolutely should not be, since they have party utility and are also easy as hell to play unless you have difficulty with the high apm of enshroud. Sam and blm probably need to be buffed too, but I have a hard time believing rpr numbers are where they want. That said, may as well wait until after savage has been out a bit to get better data.

I kinda feel like Harvest Moon should be saved for Arcane Circle windows on bosses for that yummy C+HM+PH wombo combo. Harpe x3 is always a gain over HM but if it's precharged I feel it would have better value. 660 vs 990 over 7.5 seconds Harpe wins.

Precharged 660 vs 330 then HM wins.

Potencies on Reaper attacks are misleading due to Death Design buff. I'd prefer it if tooltips were updated with potencies taking into account the actual potency with the debuff applied.

I'm not seeing a problem with harvest moon. It's a massive dps increase in dungeons because you get one for free between every set of mobs, and in real fights it's a ranged gcd you can hold in reserve indefinitely as a last resort, with an extra bonus if you have long enough downtime to cast soulsow again. I believe it also has niche applications in high end play for cases like bursting into damage buff windows, or as a filler gcd so you don't go into enshroud with unfinished combos and the like.

I think it's a meaningful addition to the job that provides interesting gameplay options.

+1 on this if you look at their base rotation 1 2 3 potency it is too high vs a pure dps job like SAM it should be around DRG level and maybe even a little bit lower (RPR has party wide buff and even good shield+HoT skill) only nerf their 1 2 3 rotation and you can keep the other bursty DPS rotation potency the same.

The amount of times I've confused a RPR for a WAR in raids

My only complaint of RPR so far is that it sucks getting downsynced. At level 50 you only have your combo plus one oGCD. I'd rather they give you Hell's Ingress at a much later level if it'd make room for another ability at 50 to make it less monotonous.

I made a new character, so Reaper seemed like the perfect opportunity to jump a melee DPS to 70 while at the same time trying a new class, but after going through the starting quest, all i could think about was "was this written by the same person who wrote Dark Knight story, and did someone order them to outright copy the adorable "edgyness" to a tee? How....tiresome." Needless to say, i changed my mind. I abandoned the quest, but i might go back to it (while skipping the predictable story. I usually wouldn't, but i've had my fill of this crap. DRK story is shit, especially the 30-50 part) after i'm done leveling other classes.

I also strongly disliked the DRK story. Especially after level 50 for me. From 30-50 I was fine with it, but as soon as we got the weirdos we had to escort around I'd had my fill.

That said I liked the Reaper Story. It was a bit thin on content, but it's more about tracking down and taking out a single bad guy. There's a very specific enemy to go after, and there was very little edge-lording to it. Once you get past the very start of it, you're a straight up hero in the sense of how pre-Imperial Garleans would have seen such a thing.

I couldn't help but notice that a Reaper discussion has finally started up again in General Discussion, and so I thought that it would be good if we could get this going again.

I'm personally glad that the FoTM focus has shifted away to other melee jobs for a while, and it would be good to hear more from a community of people who are passionate about this job's gameplay. I'm mostly happy with the job's design, although I think the PvP burst window is a bit impractical. I'm just curious what your thoughts are at this point.

I'm just going to copy and paste what I posted in the thread Lyth mentioned, with some changes

I'd like to see the nerf to arcane crest not totally rolled back but maybe take the potency closer to what it used to be. Despite my constant use of it during savage, it never really felt like it was all that impactful and my healers never specifically requested me to hold it for any mechanics, which I used to do with Mantra on Monk (which also feels way more impactful).

Other than that, Reaper feels pretty damn good. It was frustrating at the start of the expac seeing people dogpile Reaper saying it was OP and now it's the lowest damaging of the melee jobs, whilst some other melee jobs have been buffed way too much. I think a small buff to Reapers rdps would be welcome as I feel that it doesn't bring a whole lot to the table compared to the other melee jobs at this point.
