I want to be able to not look like any other AF/DL/"end game" wearing player. Keep the class/job restrictions and it will be fine.
Another week gone by, bumpity. o.o"
What do you expect?
"Oh wow we saw your thread and decided to delay 2.0 just to implement your fashion petition. We made FFXIV realistic, but if 170 people of the playerbase want to have an unrealistic equipment system we cannot just ignore that!."
I really see this happen. Or not.
Open your eyes, not everyone wants this.
Typical "i don't want this so no one shall get it, even if it's optional" post. Well, thanks for a free bump.
Because an eyepatch that enhances your stats is a really realistic peice of equipment.
Why do people always act like things should be completely realistic in a game where basically nothing is realistic? (Auto attack, magic, all races besides hyur, no swimming/jumping, dont have to eat/rest, never get tired, "tanking" giant monsters instead of being torn in half in 10 secs, etc..)
This is a fantasy game, not a RL simulation.
I do support this idea if it wasn't already obvious.
It is not optional for me.
And whats about "I want it, so everybody needs to have it."
Damn how stupid this is -.-'
Stop playing the game if you can't live without your fashion. Such a nonsense...
First I thought "Oh, lets give them a try."
But it tears at my nerves to see people pushing the same thread over and over again.
Let the devs do their work. I am sure they already took notice of your or a similar thread in the last 3-6 months.
You're entitled to your opinion, just don't derail our thread thanks. ^^
Can easily turn it around. Not everyone is in your state of mind either. Maybe you can bring a valid point in other MMO's, but you have one flaw to your statement. This is Final Fantasy, meaning, a lot of players are JRPG players who favor a fashionable look, but only wear stat gear because it is better for the events themselves.
I know I don't like the tanking gear I wear right now, I wish I could go all out and make my character look unique. Look back at previous Final Fantasy's, do most of these characters look like they are dressed appropriately for the situation?
Seriously, I used Vaan in FFXII as a tank in the game, and all he wears is this one tiny vest. The point is, this system caters to a large number of people. This system was successful in WoW and Rift. People did not like the new look of tier gear in the game, and wished they could wear their earlier tier sets again. They made the Wadrobe system, and I didn't hear any complaints about it. Maybe one or two people on the forums like you.
Overall, I don't want to see all DPS's in a group wearing Haubergeon like FFXI. I want everyone to come in and have a look that defines them, a look that defines their character. Having everyone in Haubergeons would just make the game feel less creative and generic.
Support. If they want lore behind it, I'd be fine with something WoW implemented (transferring stats of one item to another's appearance) by certain NPCs. Or, ya know, just give us vanity slots.
Not only to FF, if you compare western to japanese culture you will see that most of the time, the Western prefer function (or content) over aesthetics while it's the other way around in the Japanese.
One example would be your typical anime (aesthetics first, story second) versus western cartoon (story first, aesthetics second)
Hey, we're still at 174 likes.
This is a bit of an extreme comparison. American cartoons for as long as I can remember have focused on milking a concept for as long as they could, whereas what drew me to anime was the fact that you had a solid story that began and ended.
Either way, vanity slots. We need them. Pretty please?
Please make this happen!

poke poke rep response :P
I admit it might sound a bit extreme, but anime with solid story are rare nowadays, with majority being mindless ecchi/fanservice anime with a hint of a story.
It does depend on a season and on anime target base and on length of the anime, though. Still, you can say that aesthetics are more important in anime as they are in western cartoons.
Kind of an unfair comparison. There are just as many bad animes as there are good ones. Same for western, there are just as many good cartoons as there are bad.
The difference between japanese and western is mostly in Japan, most of the time it is focused on the characters, making people feel more attached to them. Westerners usually create a world first, then add characters in to interact with it. Both are really good, it just comes down to preference in style.
So if someone is big into westerns, they are more into what is going on in the world, without necessarily caring how they look, while JRPG players have an extreme cater to aesthetics of characters and how specifically "he" evolves.
Dragoon artifact armor looks nice but its not the best in stats, it would be nice to skin better armor to look like their artifact armor so you can keep your sharp looks and your stats. I think the only restrictions this system would need is classes can't skin artifact armor/CSE/weapons and vice verse, and you can't skin anything that job/class couldn't natively wear ex: Cobalt Cuirass cant be skinned on armor a mage wears.
I want an asschap slot
Thanks for the continuing support guys, hope this was/gets noticed. ^_^
almost getting to the 200 likes, lets see who gets there first, 200 likes or a response.
I agree this is a fantastic idea. I can think of a couple other games that do something similar. I believe their is a game next week where clothing is vanity only, all stats come from equipped accessories. (haven't actually played the beta, but that was the idea when i first read about the game)
I was hoping the materia system would act like this. but you can't equip w/e materia you want on any piece of gear. and some gear doesn't have materia slots.
+1. customization please!
Love this idea! I especially hate helms. Definitely support this suggestion!
Yes, it is a real shame that instead of looking the way that defines your character, you have to look like you tripped into a closet in the benefit of having high stats.
I worry about this however, because for a good while, the NA reps have only been translating what the JP reps are saying in their section of the forums. So unless the JP are requesting this feature also, I have a bad feeling the developers will not respond to this. It is pretty rare we get a NA specific response.
+1, I love this idea! It would allow us to customize our look but still retain class uniqueness. There is so much beautiful armor in this game, and I'd love to be able to wear my linen robe or Shposhae (sp?) stuff longer. :)
Wow, only four likes away from 200. Thank you so much everyone. :D
Good ideas are well presented. I like it (even though mix-matching gear isn't a issue for me) and I'm sure this'll catch a lot of press!
Come on! I like hobo- clowns XD The 70s are back! ;)Quote:
"...but we now have the option of changing the way we look. I know I would rather wear my amazing White Mage armour instead of looking like a hobo clown. O.o"
Gotta keep truckin' along, my friend. I do wish the community reps would acknowledge this thread in some way, though.
I prefer to think that they're so wrapped up in preparing 2.0 that the devs aren't really taking suggestions for the moment. All that means is that we have to keep this thread going until they open themselves up to suggestions again. =P
I love this idea and I just want to see any form of high heels on my female characters, even in XI all of the females had high heels on their feet... I'm sick of all these flat footed boots and crap, I want some sexiness going on at some point please!!!
ooo 2 more till 200
Awesome! We hit 201 likes. Anyone wanna help us push for 300? >.>
Can I make any shoes look like Espadrilles?
If not, I don't support this.
Ok we hit 200 before any response, this makes me a sad panda
I might be repeating what some others have said, but I think what would be "nice" both for vanity and "immersion" is to be able to combine gear pieces, with certain restrictions.
You'd take the stats of one item and attach them to the visual model of another item. I think it would be an all right compromise between vanity and "realism" (yeah, i know right, realism in a fantasy game?) would be to require the items to be of the same type of armor/weapon. Light armor can only be combined with other types of light armor, heavy armor can only be combined with other pieces of heavy armor. The new item will become something like "Custom Itemname" and naturally be untradable. Both pieces of gear would need to be equippable by the class you want to use it on.
This way, we would be able to make that triple melded armor you use on drg to look like the drg AF body (or whatever else cool body piece you like to use on drg), but you wouldn't be able to make it look like the whm robe and use that on drg.
Heavy DDs will still look like heavy DDs, mages will still look like mages, tanks will still look like tanks, but they can all look very different anyway.
