I am really hoping SE gets rid of gender locked gear for good, they should give you the option of choosing which version of the piece you want to use even if it takes extra grind I’m okay with that. Some people might disagree with that but guess what you don’t have to wear the clothes you don’t like that’s the magic of customization.
Removing gender-lock means the players have 2x the amount of glamour option, it's a win/win for the players.
I've really enjoyed the few items they've removed gender restrictions on (the shorts especially), but what I don't understand is the reluctance to remove restrictions on Mog Station items (though that does seem like it's changing slowly with things like the collegiate set, which is nice). I'm certain it's a time consuming process and I know the devs are probably pushed for time etc etc, but it just seems like they’re losing out on some money by not doing it.
Maybe it’ll happen some time down the line, but all I know is I’ve wanted those Edda boots for my male character for years now, so if that could happen any time soon I would appreciate it…lol. I don’t even care about the rest of the set, I would spend the $12 just for the boots, so you have to wonder how many other people would do the same for other sets. Devs get more money through Mog Station, and players can have a little more fun with customization - it seems like a win-win to me.
Got to remember that remove the gender lock on gear would require them to remodel every single piece of gear to make it fit the opposite genders player models, and there are a bunch.
And seeing how long it's taken to "only" remodel headgear/hairstyles to fit the new races.. I'm not holding my breath for the removal of gender locked gear.
Which would be a lot less work than to make two somewhat different versions of the same gear which they are frequently doing, like the summer sweater being longer on females...
I would much rather see gear that i could actually wear than constantly be reminded that no, you aren't allowed to wear the pants made for that particular armour because reasons.
I'm not inclined to think so. Removing the gender lock on hairstyles brought about an era where the majority of new hairstyles are either very niche or feminine/androgynous.
If the gender lock on gear was done away with completely, I would be worried that we'd see a similar shift in such a direction.
Just to add onto this. Taking time to remove gender lock on gear pieces would take time away from us potentially getting other new glams as well. Something similar to the situation with this expansion where they’ve been wasting resources on older glams and removing the gender lock on them, costing us new glams like the second pvp set we’re missing out on, end of expansion glamour set we always get, or a male equivalent to the 2b coffee we got with nier. I’d rather they not waste those resources on things such a small amount of the playerbase would use and instead put them towards better things.
You say there's no rush, but you also want them to rush and get rid of gender locks? It seems like they are removing gender locks bit by bit, but that clearly takes some time.
They'll probably work on making these items work for both genders at some time- but it makes sense if they have the female clothing ready for female models, and the male for male models, they'd release that now since that's what the majority of players will use, then work on removing the locks. I definitely think they should be eventually getting everything ready for all models- but I think if we're going to say 'there's no rush', we need to act like there's no rush.
I'm here because I found the ruffled skirt and dress, they look damn cute but of course both gender locked so ME SAD CATBOI /cry #removegenderlock
This is a stick up, hand over your maid outfits.
Still waiting on maid outfits for males. My lalafell trap FC needs more outfits for our events.
ya please remove it sucks!!!
I agree wholeheartedly. I wish they'd do away with them entirely. If they're going to insist on designing two different outfits, at least make it equippable by both genders and let the players choose which ones they want. Be this for mog station items or regular ol' items in game. The way they went for the Collegiate Attire is absolutely the way they should go in the future.
*stares angrily at the NieR raid gear and all the ugly ass shit dudes got compared to the nice looking gear the girls got*
Seriously, though. Can we please do this? FF XIV is already a weird, anachronistic world. What's the big deal if some of us want to dress in women's clothing?
But without genderlocked stuff I won't be able to tell if that lalafel in my party is a man or woman >.>; lol
Having just farmed it on my alt today, I think they ought to remove restrictions on the Rathalos set. Helmet, gauntlets and greaves are already the same, as far as I can tell

You're really going to pull the "think of the children" card..?
Damn science must do terrible things to improve ? What a shocking news we must tell the world.
Except it's not really something new so much as giving them the ability to put a name to a feeling they were likely already experiencing.
To use myself as an e.g., I've felt something was up since before even my teenage years, but sure as hell didn't know what it was... It's taken this long to figure it out, which has left me miserable with regards to my self-image and esteem.
So I don't think children being exposed to that stuff is a negative at all. I wish I had...
Keep the gender locked gear (will you censor this too?).
I don't care about the political nightmare this thread seems to have devolved into, but I do want SE to stop with the arbitrary and silly gender restrictions. Like, making pants into skirts on girls only and locking both versions, or making the guy version of the latest nier aiming chest an ugly tattered mess while the female version is sleek and shiny, and again both versions are locked. Super annoying.
Also forever sad my favorite boots in game are gender locked. They're tied to a cash shop set - Yuna I think? The dress with the big now on it. But the boots are the only completely plain, entirely undecorated, dyeable boots in the entire game and I use them all the time. Unironically one of the biggest things making me hesitate in wanting to go bunny boy when they're out.
This might need a spoiler tag... I'm not sure.

Well we do have Urianger in a dress now, so why not?
As long as each set had a masculine and feminine separate design with the gender lock removed (like the school uniform thing I forgot the name of) I’d be cool with it. I would never buy the feminine stuff but if they always had a masculine version nothing is lost, ppl can have their characters wear what ever they want, everyone happy, I’d definitely be cool with it.
I do want wearing Frontier Ribbon, why it's gender locked? :(
Also I think male still don't have any ribbon as headgear yet, although Bridesmaid's Dress has big ribbon there...
EDIT: Also Housemaid's set for male seems already in file yet they still gender locked :(
Considering they can barely even give the male characters masculine glams as it is with gender-locked outfits, i’d really rather they not remove the gender lock. We’ve seen with the recent hairstyles what removing genderlock or trying to appease everyone does. We get highly feminine or androgynous gear/hairstyles and male characters are forgotten about. Need i remind people the fact that they gave us a 2b coffer(purely feminine gear) but gave us no male equivalent? Already tired of female characters getting all the attention, really don’t need them trying to divert attention to making androgynous looking gear either.
I like the distinction between male and female clothing in most cases. The only item females have that I wish I could wear are the female Oasis pants/sarouel/whatever - oh and the obsolete android scouting/striking/aiming chestpiece
You get school uniform, or 2B. Depending on which it is I'm either for or against the removal of gender locks.
Dont even get me started on healer glams. It's become very obvious that they design healer gear mainly with only females in mind, and then just barely slightly alter it for the men.
https://i.imgur.com/ysjKuVq.jpg?1 Heres an example. We can almost never get any kind of masculine healer gear whatsoever and it sucks. There just seems to be way more work put in for one side than the other, and removing genderlock would only worsen this ordeal.
