Female Hrothgar as a playable race. Show your support!

We understand it is a lot of work to create new races Square, but gender-locking sets a very bad precedent and was abolished in 2.0 for a reason. Either way, now that we have two new races before the "no-new-races" came into effect, please consider working on the other two genders as the next step! Female Hrothgar and male viera!

As I said in the Viera thread, I don't even have a horse in this particular race. Having two races being added at all is fantastic IMHO. Even more so if those customization options they've been hinting at would later become available for the other races as well (more face / body controls, and so on).

But that said, let's do it! Open up the missing gender options as soon as possible, that's giving more power to both the players and the devs. As it can only bring more meat (content and substance) to the table (the game).

I'll repeat myself: FFXIV has always been a very inclusive game with varied and open options, at least since ARR, and I'd be happy if we could continue towards this trend. The fact Yoshida and the team are willing to listen in and evaluate player feedback is a chance to make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

I joined the forums just to say what I think about this topic.

I'd like to see male Viera and female Hrothgar added to the game. They could offer cool new ways to express male and female forms for the WoL in the way that the Miqo'te men and Roegadyn women did. The lore isn't a problem for the latter two existing as playable races, so I don't think it would be a problem for the former.

I hope the developers take the time in the coming patch cycles to rig and develop female Hrothgar and male Viera models as player characters because some interviews from Fanfest indicate they had to decide between one gender for each race. The 5.x series would be a good timing to allow them to make these, considering they had the ability to do so over the 4.x series.

I'm in support of female Ronso being playable!
I don't think there should be one without the other.

Please consider doing away with the genderlock on both of the new races! i'm willing to wait as long as it takes. i appreciate your hard work and i'm looking forward to Shadowbringers!

As a personal preference, I don't really like playing male characters who are ultra-bulky and muscular. I'm not interested in playing male hrothgar, for that reason. And since, again, as a personal preference, I don't like playing female characters whose design emphasis is on making them ""sexy"" either, I'm not really interested in playing a female viera instead.

So as it is, neither race announcement has anything I'm interested in. I was honestly pretty bored by the announcements; they're not my thing. I know some people were excited, but I wasn't.

However...

If the team came out with something innovative for the design of a bulky, muscular, strong female character (such as a female hrothgar), or a lithe, petit, athletic male character (such as a male viera), then I might begin to be interested... and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.

And the existence of such things wouldn't be taking away from the existence of male hrothgar and female viera. So, it'd simply be increasing the number of people interested in the new races. If it's something that would get more players interested, then I can't see how it's a bad thing.

Even if they were to be added in future patches (rather than on Shadowbringers launch with the hrothgar M/viera F), I'd still be interested to see the development of the designs, and I'd still be very excited for the implementation.

Genderlocked classes make me sad, why add awesome new races only to restrict them before they've even got out of the gate? I love FFXIV, and I'd love to see both genders added and can't wait for the lore that goes with them!

Genderlocking in this day and age feels less like something normal and more like we just got half a race for no reason. Hopefully the dev team will give serious thought to added male viera and female hrothgar.

I really appreciate that Squenix tried to even it out by giving one male and one female, but I know so many people were looking forward to buff Hrothgar girls and bunny boys. ;-; gender locks are silly and have never gone over well in any game

There is no precedent for Ronso being male-only. We see several females in Final Fantasy 10, with very nice athletic-looking designs. Whilst I would prefer that over the more hulking style we have for the Hrothgar (and that is likely what would make me consider choosing them), I would rather we get a female at all, even if I would personally not enjoy the Roegadyn-style. Regardless, make sure their faces still remain bestial. I don't like that whole stereotype of the women looking much more human than the men when there are two genders of a race.

Whenever there are resources and time, I do believe that female Hrothgar would be great, so please add them as you can.

I also support having both races out there. The gender lock was silly.

I support the idea of having the two extra options, and think the most logical method of implementation would be to add them at a later date during the expansion in the same way Blizzard had to delay Zandalari/Kul tiran.

Even if the genderlocks are removed later down the line in a patch or something, please please remove them! It’s silly to lock races like this...

When my wife first started playing, she wanted to be a Ronso. When the trailer started showcasing the Ronso she got really excited, only to be told that wasn't going to be an option. She pretty much refuses any sort of social networking, forums included, so I'm signing in her stead. Remove the genderlocking!

I absolutely support female Hrothgar! We need more strong females. I'll admit I was disappointed with the Au Ra; the males are huge and exotic-looking, while the females are small and look demure, with soft round faces. They're half the height of their male counterparts, and don't have the exotic look at all.

Even if female Hrothgar just have the body type of female Roes, that would be preferable over not having them at all.

I support this not only because gender-locking is wrong, but also because I really really want to play as a big strong tiger woman.
I get that this is a massive game and that adding new races isn't easy, so as long as it happens eventually I'll be happy.

I'll vote yes, simply because female hrothgar aren't getting a lot of love. It seems to be all about male viera, and its honestly really stupid. People should care for both.

I also agree that gender locking anything is silly (do you know how good some of the female-only clothes would look on men?), and I also agree with not making the female Hrothgar look like humans. They should still have those cat faces, just like the males of their race. Because we are coming up on launch just a few months away, it might be prudent to polish what you have and add in the other genders as you can produce them in a later patch, but please consider doing so. Having Hrothgar male-only as a response to Viera being female-only is not a good reason to gender lock the race.

My friends and I were very much looking forwards to making different characters, Several of which would have been male Viera, and when it was evident that the ronso were a possibility one of my friends wanted to make a female ronso. We would very much like it if you re-considered the gender lock, and gave us them both. To gender lock something in this day and age seems a bit of a regression, and I know many gamers would -really- like to see both genders of both of these races. Ugh, Maeve! I agree 100%! I loved the idea of having a beastly race for players, and was utterly heartbroken when there were only men! The Female Viera are gorgeous, and the Male Hrothgar are fierce as heck, but I just wish they both had counterparts. As someone whose main is normally a Highlander Female, I'm always appreciative of seeing big and strong women that don't adhere to the traditional standard of feminine beauty. Bring on the muscle cats and bunny boys!

I assume there were some internal issues that led to them being cut, because this just seems like a weird decision, but I don't think it's an acceptable excuse in 2019. I also hope there wouldn't be too much dimorphism between the Hroth options. Tuff ladies pls.
I hope this can be resolved without (further?) dev crunch being necessary.

I"m someone who only started playing late last year, so I wasn't around for the original XIV. But I can absolutely tell you as someone who loves Roe and loves playing as her fem Roe, I am genuinely sad to hear about the genderlocking stuff! I was really hoping for the option for fem Hrothgar/Ronson cause let's be real the option to play as a powerful tall lady just is not on the table for most games, and even when it is like in XIV there's usually only one option. Giving people variety attracts new players and players who maybe lost interest.

Please consider adding more gender options for the new races!! orz

I'll admit, I probably will never play Viera/Hrothgar since I'm comfortable with my Miqo'te, but I don't like gender-locking anything in this game. Even if the Viera have a vague justification in FF history (which I don't think should restrict the desgin of FF14, but others might), the Hrothgar/Ronso absolutely don't at all. There were plenty of female Ronso's in FFX, and there was never any, to my knowledge, major separation between the genders mentioned in that game.

Vouch! though - I'd be playing male anyway :)

I'm sorry, but I am going to say this. When did FFXIV become so touchy about genders?

This community has far too many whiners. I can vouch for female Hrothgar as in FFX lore - there were indeed females. Talking about staring a gifted horse in the mouth...

I also read lore about Viera - where males would stay out of the village, not known to public, protecting the woods - and only come back to the village to sow their seed. It is in the book ISBN-4757516967 (Final Fantasy XII Scenario Ultimania, Page 88)
The point is... where did we see male Viera in any Ivalice-series game? I for one never noticed. This dude that made the post here nailed it though

And if a Squeenix employee sees this, keep up the good work. I would pay triple the price for the expansion if it was viable, but I only need to buy it once.

I would definite make a female Hrothgar alt, and I might even consider changing from my Boy Ra.

I would Fantasia to a female Hrothgar in a heartbeat. I'm all for them, obviously!

I was on the fence about Hrothgar, but if we can get them beastly ladies sign me up!!!

I had every intention of drafting something professional for this thread but honestly, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Anyway, yes please. The game currently only has one tall/muscular female race in the game (two if you count highlanders, but again: tall) and I would be absolutely overjoyed if we were given the chance to play a second one.

Please, Square Enix, give us the option to play as female Hrothgar. You have the resources to do it, female versions of the Hrothgar exist in the form of the female Ronso from FFX. Surely your people are capable of adapting the design and appearance into Final Fantasy XIV.

They dont have enough time to do both female viera and female hgothar. They're too busy making Eureka stuff.

I do not believe that there should be gender locking in the game, I would like to see a Female Hrothgar added to the game, either at launch or as soon as they can after launch.

I love beast/animal-people races but I'm also a woman who prefers my characters to be more badass/strong looking instead of "cute." I've done the best I can with my miqo'te but I find many of her emotes annoying. I would have been so excited for the option to play as a female hrothgar. 100% support for un-gender-locking both races. Let people be who they want to be!
