Oh no! I may have to make new friends? How horrible. I guess people shouldn't be inactive.

Oh no! I may have to make new friends? How horrible. I guess people shouldn't be inactive.
Most LS's will stay together if they have a one LS rule. To those that have 2 or 3 LS's I suggest talk to the leaders and let them all decide on the same world. That way, you all can be together again.
Chances are, if you are not in the same LS you are not that close of a friend anyways.
There will be exceptions, of course, but people are making too big of a deal out of this for some reason.
It is just a game after all...
Well, the Selbina I play on has a ton of English players in the EU, but the French players are fewer and seem to cluster together. I party with them frequently (yesterday morning, actually), but they are the most isolated--the ones that "get out" are, naturally, the bilingual ones. I have yet to encounter anyone that speaks German besides someone in my LS that's trying to learn. The EU "prime," however, is rather full. As a college student, I can't say that I keep the same hours two days in a row, and there is only a tiny window that lacks players, which is normally around 12:00-15:00 UCT (not exact times, but just a rough estimate). That's really the only time I've ever seen a party have to give up, or taken the time to make food while I'm in a party. Then again, that's just my experience, and whenever I'm on XIV, I'm normally doing something outside of Ul'dah.
I wanna leave the server fight {Over There}.
Are we REALLY having arguments over which soon-to-be non-existent server is the best?
Upside, Big lead time so people can talk it out and decide what arbitrary number world there migrating to so they can continue playing together. I am kind of happy that there keeping server names out of the equation until the dust settles. I doubt that there will be any heated debate on what number is better. Granted there is a strong argument for 3....
Downside, Inactives have a high chance of coming back and being on a server where they know nobody. I would guess that there planting inactives due to some behind the scenes system stuff.
I think it would be absolutely nifty if they allowed those auto assigned a free world transfer ticket(s) redeemable with in a month or so of there return. Not to mention there will be multiple cases where some players will simply not be able to put in there transfer apps.
Unlimited character transfers (Can I have it?)
It scared me how we have less than a month to choose, and the list of the 10 server names isn't revealed yet...
this is a big decision for linkshells to make. Shouldn't the renames been out now as well?
I don't like they way they are doing this...
We have about a week and a half to make the server changes, not everyone can hop on day one and do it. What if worlds get locked and some LS members can't get on it. Now all the other LS members have to move again, make the shell again, now what happened if in the process of doing that, that world gets locked. Now they have to move again, repearl AGAIN etc etc rinse dry and repeat until HOPEFULLY your whole LS gets on the same server?
This seems like a silly way to do server mergers, I mean they even handled FFXI's server mergers better. Come on SE..
Just take the top 5 full servers, then take the bottom 5 and merge them onto a fuller server.
Example (Because I don't know the pop of each server)::
Selbina (Low Pop) merges onto Wutai (High Pop) Selbina goes way and now everyone's on Wutai.
At least this way LS's and friends people have made stay together and we don't have to HOPE we all get on a server before it's full.
Making everyone move is just silly.
Well, I think what they were trying to avoid was a "destination world." I was all for this, as I hated the thought in XI of having to move into someone else's world, rename, etc. But they took it a little too far. What was wrong with A+B=C? Why does it either have to be none of either world or all of one? x.x;
Come on SE, reveal the new server names
Wow, this merger looks terrible for the future of the game, as many stated before, tons of people taking a break until 2.0 will find themselves stranded on different servers then their friends once they do come back.
Despite 2.0 showing so much promise, this merger decision might actualy be what sinks XIVs ability to be a big player MMO.
I do hope they reconsider this forced merger, I much rather it be slightly underpopulated(still plenty enough players atm) when I play then overcrowded.
My big questions to the devs are these:
Will the inactive be able to choose their new server when they log back in? A week after? A month after?
Is it only active players who are being randomly repopped on a server?
It would be nice if I could leave a LS greeting message to let members of my LS know this is happening soon...
For the people who may be online when I am not.
Just signing the server names or bust bandwagon. I wouldn't pick hairstyle 1 without looking at it, wouldn't pick a class blind, wouldn't choose a character name blind. Why would i pick my server name blind? You know unless I was a guy with a mohawk on the side of his head playing cheese vendor named Inadequate McFailsalot.
As said before this is only the initial merge... A lot of you seem to be thinking about what's in front of you instead of down the road. Come 2.0 a lot is going to change which will more than likely include a way to freely transfer servers after a population stabilization.
Right now our community is already scattered..
SE has always been vague on information regarding the future of anything. However, if you are p2p you see the light at the end of the tunnel. So look to the future.. not the now.
I believe the thinking on SE's part is to allow people who want to try 1.21 out will beable to choose where they go, but people who have no intention of paying until closer to 2.0 and have deactivated characters will be randomly assigned a server.
And people talking about people deciding to wait till 2.0 could loose thier friends, I would imagine (pure speculation) new characters made after 2.0 will be able to choose servers because its not the PS3 players fault they cant play now and I will seriously hate it if my rl friends and friends I met on FFXI that are waiting for the PS3 release werent on my server because a random number generator chose for them.
I think all former XIV players should come back once server transfers commence and fill all 10 servers... just for lulz.
What is really alarming is the fact that they have no concept of what MMOs are all about. It is about the relationships that you form with friends online.
Why they just don't merge servers now and then allow people to change servers later is assinine.
Why only label one server as German/French. What about an Italian server? What about a French Canadian server?
Why they don't designate which servers are RP is inconcievable. Surely they must realize that there are RP players and non-RP players?
Why not name the final server names now? Is that so difficult?
Do they have anyone on their staff that worked on FFXI? They handled server mergers much more efficiently than their new plan.
There are much smarter MMOs out there. They actually provide PvP, PvE, RP and time zone labels on servers when you choose which server to start on.
They claim that they want to be competitive in the MMO market, yet their ignorance of how to properly handle server designation is alarming.
why the hell not break it up and rearrange the pieces to fit into new slots.. taking a smaller server and putting them in a bigger one wouldnt help the new players.. theyd be in a world established by all the veterans there and pretty much be shafted cuz itd be the original world still and new players tryin to make a yeahhh that
doesnt even look good in writing
weve supported the game this long, lets jumble it up and have some fun, i cant wait to meet all you new ppl :)
The only languages officially supported are EN, JP, FR and GE so they can only officially have those languages for servers.
Agree with this completlyQuote:
Why not name the final server names now? Is that so difficult?
They did, infact a large amount of the origanal dev team was from FFXI, but they all got moved after they failed.Quote:

I do believe that SE has the intent of making every server global, however they went and saw that the German and French communities are substantially small so they marked one as 'preffered' for them just to give those people some guidelines if they want to stick with their countrymen, because they are very few.
Character Transfers offer everyone choices.
Server Merges offer no one choices.
Time to wrangle up my friends/ls mates and discuss what we're gonna do.
Just leave the top 10 servers as they are and allow other people to merge into us.
This is like the worst idea SE ever had -.-
How hard is it to just merge 1 highly populated server with 1 very small populated one?
If you don't like the choise, give people the possibility to switch server.
I'm in 3 very active linkshells right now. If one linkshell prefers an other server for some reason, that means I'll lose that linkshell? Just because SE is too stupid to set up some non-ridiculous merges?
I always loved this game. From the day I started till yesterday. But this idea breaks the total game. People who have some good friends in multiple linkshells, will probably lose a ton of them.
MMOs are all about friendships and playing together. It seems like SE totally forgot that factor when taking this decision.
[Translated with Google]: So here my two cents and I must say I am angry and disappointed with the concept.
Before Quick question : Does the "European" world-10 will run on a server somewhere in Europe? So practically it should solve the lag / delay problem for Europeans? Or is this world on a server in Japan like the others?
Servermerge is urgently needed. At Trabia there are like 200 - 700 players online simultaneously, with at least 100 in Uldah standing around and idling. The distribution of countries can be imagined as follows: 70% Japanese / Asians and 30% of the rest of the world.
But what SE gives us as Servermerge is simply not acceptable! If you don't have an active char in March, you'll be separated from your friends. Whether there are friends out of the game, from linkshell or private friends. Who is going to reactivate his account in May / June will not be able to play with his friends! In other words, SE demands 10€ for activating our char now, so we can chose a server...
And it seems like there is no problem for SE that some players must/may change their Charnames at Servermerge. Why is this option denied to players who have been long and active here?
-> If you want to change your Charname, simply disable this char now. Creat a new one with same name on another server and wait until 30th March. Then reactivate the old char and you will be prompted to change his name. For this method you can't play about 30 days with this Char => so name change will cost € 10!
If Linkshell1 decides to go to world1 and Linkshell2 go to world2, I have to chose where to go. Do I (or a few friends) have no active Char, we end up somewhere. Just not together!
-> tl, dr:
- Server merge has to come, but in no case as described by SE.
- Inactive Players can not simply be packed somewhere.
- Changing the Charnamens should be possible for all.
They should move the Servermerge by 2 weeks back and use the time to create a different concept. I've never played FFXI, but world1 (many players) + world.2 (a few players) = New World would the easiest.
check out how many people don't like it on the JP side http://goo.gl/ntScD all the likes you see in there on single posts with 50-60... those are mostly posts that's against this decision SE made.
Should also note lots of first time posters in there and it's not from their 2nd character or anything since their class levels of those new first time posters are all Lv50... show how much impact that decision SE made got to them to finally post something in here.
THIS IS JUST UNACCEPTABLE...... Period.. whoever thought this was a great idea, needs a rude awakening.. 3 main linkshells I play with all have great members and friends.. now we all have to communicate and hopefully come to an understanding of which server we will all migrate to.... they need to get rid of this stupid idea and just force lower populated servers into more populated ones... problem ****ing solved.......
Edit: Rein could you translate some of those posts for us?? the one had over 90 likes etc, maybe translate the ones with +50 likes lol..
Hey everyone,
I appreciate all the comments, questions and discussions taking place regarding the recent World Merge announcement but I would like to ask you all to try and keep discussions within as few threads as possible. This will ensure that the discussions are focused and help us to find and collect the points of discussion and accurately report them.
I appreciate everyone's assistance in this!
Well can't you close the other threads then and tell them to come here? Isn't this the main thread?
