Thank you for the response.
Very curious as to how implementation will differ from the past, and looking forward to future updates.

i'm feeling so so frustrated with all this, the server kick me 2 times before enter to buy one house, why? why? why?, rejects certain ips ?, it always happens to me the same when the worlds congestionates and gives me to think that not everyone treats it the same, I live in Spain, yes yes Spain is part of Europe thing that maybe you dont know because i am waiting an event in the same conditions as Germany or England to get the Flying Cumulus Mount as other players that dosent live there, Europe is not only Germany and England. i´m waiting as all players, i play this game since a first day, today i see how you only do things for new player, i´m waiting 4 years to receive veteran rewards of leonheart and now, you gift this to all new players, i´m rank 14 and i feeling so bad, I'm left out, you kill all warriors of light with your bad decisions, i think this will be my last month in eorzea, thanks to you yoshida you kill me, you are the reason because warriors of light die today.
Players should only be able to purchase and own one housing plot that would leave much more plots open for others to be able to get a house in the game that have the in game currency to do so. To be able to own more than one plot of land I feel is unfair to anyone else who wants to purchase a house in the game, myself being one of those players as I have been saving my gil up for when 4.1 dropped I could get a plot in Mist that was originally owned by one of my friends but the massive login queue on Faerie made it next to impossible. I do have friends who have let me share their house while I do appreciate their generousity I would like to own my plot of land in the game and put my mind to work crafting everything I need for the house cause all I have right now is a bunch of housing materials but nothing to use them for given how quickly housing went the instant 4.1 dropped.
Thank you for the response, though I'll be keeping my hopes in check until I get to see what changes may be occurring. My suggestions are:
- Limit housing to one FC and one personal per account, per server.
- Unless additional Wards can be continuously added, consider a lottery system of sorts
- Allow players to sell their plot back to the game and recoup a percentage not unlike they do if they ignore their house for 45 days.
Thats awesome, if i also may make a suggestion in addition to adding more wards to current places. Would it make sense to add housing to Ishguard as well? I'd love a snow themed area to live in along with many others that have suggested it. Would really hit a corner with limited housing too.
Also limiting housing to 1 per account may help.

Nice to see a response on this. Granted just burned my gil transfering and house swapping wards with another FC... so got the large.. but not where I had hoped.
One major feedback tho.. we need the ability to "Trade" plots with another. Example. I had my mid in ward 8, they had it in ward 5. Needed to exchange wards to allow more FC members to be in the same area. Only way that works is if one person "destroys" the plot so other can transfer. Wouldve been nice if a plot for plot trade could be had somehow. Even if it still was a gil sink.
You know, from the post we already know part of what's going to happen: more wards. The only thing we don't know yet is what he's gonna do about the log-in dash.
I hate to say this but I have this feeling that they're just gonna raise the prices of all the plots by ten or twenty-fold and call it a day...you won't be worrying about the log-in dash if you don't have the money to buy a plot (finger to head).
thanks for the response but: Please dont make the same failure again and again and again. The Problem of the actual Housing System is that ppl can have 1 house per character and not per account in the game, you will reduce server stress as much as possible if you change system to give each account characters on same server the same house. Or please give us instanced houses or something. i dont think some more distrikts will solve the main problems. at moment the relocation feature isnt usefull cause everything is full. and when we get more districts servers would be sold all new houses again 20 minutes after they opened. The people that dont get on servers cause to many ppl log in at same time or download problems of the newest patches will make some pll really really angry. please change in first reason housing to 1 house per account. I have two houses but i hope you will change the system that i can enjoy my favorite house with each of my characters.
hmm.. we are hoping you going to make sure almost all people can get a house especially for the free company guild... *still angry
Thank you! We appreciate the prompt response. Now I personally just hope Free Companies are given some priority and some sort of purchase limit is established, like "one house per character per world" or something in that line that will prevent a single person with 8 characters from buying off half a ward.
Again, thank you! :)
Thanks for the input. Very glad that things will be working out.
Thank you very much for your response and consideration. Now there is more to hope than there will be enough house for all! For, as you have noticed, there are many people who have been waiting for a long time to have a house!
In any case I thank you very much for listening to us !!
Thank you for the response. I would like to add an additional request to housing, not about add more wards or anything, but rather if we are married to an individual that they automatically have access to our house instead of having to take up a slot on your guest. Additionally you could add more guests slots so that would solve any issues of being married to someone.
I hope you consider the suggestion and thank you very much for listening to us!
I have to respectfully disagree with this. In Real life, many people have demanding jobs, kids and other responsibilities they simply have to attent to. We are not all fortunate to be able to dedicate that much time to reach full level 70 on all jobs.
We are not talking about being unable to get a specific title, armor, weapon or other "small size" content. We are talking about a full housing section that makes up for 25% of all housing areas, the amount of content you would place out of reach or regular players would be too great.
Thank you, Yoshi-P! I'm so glad to hear that you all have heard our wishes and are taking steps to update the system. I can only hope it's done in a way that's fair to everyone.
He needed to make a timed response regarding this. At the very least I’m glad they are acknowledging that they are taking community feedback on not only adding more wards but “HOW” they should be implemented next time around. While adding more wards is the logical next step, by itself it doesn’t provide a solution to the how chaotic the rush to grab one through all the congestion and crashes. We had multiple players in my Fc including myself logging in the moment servers were up and most of us had to wait on the congestion with the log in queue. Being forced to log in 3 to 5 minutes of the servers being up, despite all the preparation we made in anticipation of the rush none of us were able to relocate our mansion as all the large plots were taken by the time we logged in. The more ridiculous part was that half of them were own by “INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS” rather than an FC. Some suggest restricting large plots to FC only, others suggest a lottery system, others suggest more instanced housing of full houses rather than apartments, others simply that the housing should open an hour or two after servers are live to give time for the congestion to dissipate before purchases start. So among adding wards I’m glad they’ll be addressing these various proposals from the community to improve this heavily flawed housing implementation system
Thank you Yoshi-P! My boyfriend and I got a house together (him being the owner, myself the tenant), but I felt guilty about getting our plot because so many people had technical issues while logging in. It didn't feel fair.
I'm really glad that new wards are coming relatively soon. I was worried that there wouldn't be anymore until near the end of the expansion.
Thank you for listening to us! It's one of the reasons why I left another MMO for Eorzea... the development team no longer listened to, or communicated with, their players.
Look if free to play games like Elder Scrolls Online and LOTR can generate a new ward of housing everytime one fills up then there's absolutely no reason that FFXIV can't do the same!
Thank you for your response! My feedback is 1 house per account.
What if a timer to purchase was implemented ?
Example : One house (Personal or Free Company) purchase per service account with a timer of 14 days or so starting once land has been purchased on that service account before being able to purchase another house.
This would give people a chance to choose which character they most would like a house for have a shot, while not preventing the ownership of as many houses as you want over time. Also letting those who currently have many homes to keep them.
I would also love to see wards dedicated to Free Companies that would have more Large and Medium houses with a few Small or Extra Large houses.
Hope this housing stuff gets figured out.
Love and Hugz ~Alexi Kat
This is welcome news. I know there were many people disappointed that they couldn't get housing on my server as most if not all plots were sold within 15 minutes of the patch going live.
A question/suggestion regarding this as a result of the issue where a friend was unable to secure a house for his FC due to how fast plots were claimed. Has there been any consideration of making special wards to allow FC easier access to housing? For example maybe a ward where adjacent small plots are combined into medium or large plots, and only small plots are available for purchase as private estates? (All medium or large plots would be designated as FC housing only)
Yeah so I'm going to point out the flaw in 1 FC house per account suggestion. If you have 50 players in 1 FC on different accounts, that's one house purchase per member on a different account that can buy a house... I don't think anyone wants that.
Better suggestion;
+ 1 FC house for each FC. It gives every FC an opportunity for a home.
+ 1 personal house for each server (or account)
I would love to see for apartments:
- Room sharing with multiple friends
- FC options
- expanded rooms (maybe two rooms instead of one)
- Indoor patio feature (for outdoor objects limit ten item)
- Relocate from house to apartment
I would love to see a personal house convert to FC house option, I would even pay a Gil fee to make the conversion.
First, kudos to Yoshida for speaking up and having a plan. Since they aren't sure on the plan yet I'd like to make some suggestions, hopefully they catch on.
1. Limit housing to one FC, one personal, per account, per server, for people who already have housing that would bypass this limitation, either grandfather them in or make them choose the FC house they want to keep and transfer ownership on the other and make them choose the personal house they want to keep and give them a full refund and return furniture where possible for others.
Continued Below:
2. Implement a lottery system or an auction system that spans across one week or at least a few days. In the case of an auction it should keep going until bids stop and bids are locked in after a certain period of no bids occurring so nobody can jump in the second before the auction is set to close in a pre-scheduled environment like Ebay, it should be handled like a real auction house except instead of a few seconds between bids maybe there is an initial guaranteed 2 day period of bidding and it keeps going until people stop bidding, where a reasonable timer starts to countdown and if nobody bids in that time the house goes to the last bidder. This would also make it very apparent who bought gil right before housing was released when we see completely obscene gil amounts climb up the auction history and provide enough time to report and disqualify them and insure only those who earned money fair and square get the plot.
I suggest a lottery because for those of us on hyper populated servers it was basically like a lottery but with error codes instead of ticket numbers, everyone on Cactuar and similarly populated servers signed on as soon as maintenance ended, in my zone it was 6:00:00am on the dot. My launcher took 30 or so extra seconds to load the "Play" button then it normally does, and that sealed my fate, All Large or Medium plots were gone by the time I was out of the login queue and almost every small was gone shortly after, by 6:30am every house in every housing district was gone.
3. Separate the FC workshop from housing, make a factory or similar building in the major cities that FC's get a "workshop" inside of and make it possible to use all items that provide items or FC points like Airships, Aetheric wheels etc. This would reduce a lot of the salt for FCs that would happily just craft and send off airships. You could also separate gardening from housing by giving everyone space on a Farm, and the Chocobo Stable could go there to. This would limit the features exclusive to housing to *just* decoration, and severely lower the demand for the feature to enthusiasts only and you probably wouldn't need to add much more space. Thats all I've got.
Logged in 5am day off. Free Goblet plot 5 second walking distance from new pool area. Tried to relocate FC house. Cannot due to not having permission. FC leader is at work. Did not want to lose opportunity. Bought plot as personal in hopes of switching over later. Come to find out I cannot switch house from personal to FC unless I relinquish, repurchase and lose the millions already spent. Long story short, now I have two house.
SE lets us switch from personal to FC without relinquishing first and some random players gets a free house on Goblet (Exodus).
The main reason I have been extremely angry after the release of housing was, that within 3 minutes after release all big plots were already sold. But not the fact that they were already sold is what made me angry. The fact that all of them were sold to private people was what made me rage. I absolutely do not comprehend, why a single person needs a big plot. In my opinion it should be restricted, that only FCs are allowed to buy big plots. I'd even go so far to say that private people can only buy small plots, but that may be a bit extreme.
What also made me angry is, that most of them were house sellers, since now most of them are owned by FC's now and that Square Enix still has no way to detect that.
It would be so easy to detect: If a person gives up his private estate and within 24 hours + or - he received more than 5 million gil, a hidden message is instantly sent to the GM team, who then will have to do an investigation about every PF he opened within that timeframe + every chat he had with the buyer within that time.
Also I think there should be a way higher punishment: People buying the plot should get their gil refunded and their house auto-demolished + people selling it should get an instant account suspension of 72 hours minimum (same level as the punishment for using cheat software).
While I appreciate you finally giving us an actual statement on the subject. We do need this ASAP and not in 3-4 months from now. The Realization that many people are completely disheartened with this situation and thus completely disillusioned with the game as a whole now. Many members of my friend group just haven't logged in since Tuesday Morning because of this. Fixing this situation quickly is something that is necessary for the life of the game. Not pushing this off to an already set patch. This should have a priority that sets itself apart from the base patch schedule.
After missing out on our chance at a Shirogane plot on Tuesday due to lobby errors, my FC and I were extremely disheartened, and not expecting a response, especially not in such a timely manner. We’re quite surprised now, and cautiously optimistic. Given this opportunity, I would like to express some of our thoughts and possible solutions (which agree with many already proposed):
- One FC house and one personal house per server/account. This should have been implemented from the start, and needs to be now. Simply adding more wards and calling it a day is an insulting band-aid fix; very temporary, and won’t solve the underlying problems.Implement this system, and then a week or so before 4.2, give current players with multiple homes the time to choose which one to keep, and refund the others. Will that upset some players? Of course, but those houses shouldn’t be owned by one person, and people are already enraged. This is the most important fix, I think, and one many others echo. If this sort of system is not implemented, and all we get are more wards, I can’t even imagine the backlash you will likely receive.
- Update apartments - make them a little bigger (so they don’t just feel like a glorified FC room), give an instanced balcony, allow cross-breeding gardening, etc. Right now, apartments aren’t much of an option for players interested in housing. Make them so.
- Increase the amount of tenants allowed per house, make it so we can share our homes with alts, and allow the demo timer to be reset by tenants. This should be an easy, no-brainer fix, and ease some of the housing strain. Players may be more open to sharing houses if they have more options available.
- Give some priority to FCs, and I don’t mean one-man FCs. I saw one player's proposal was to allow two different housing ward instances - one player housing, one FC housing. That might not be a bad idea. Maybe make it so that a plot cannot be purchased by an FC with less than three or five members? I don’t think it should be as high as ten, as some FCs are genuinely smaller. You need three signatures to even create an FC, so maybe four should be the minimum limit? Just some thoughts - it won’t stop every “fake” FC, but it’s something at least.
- Make it harder for house flippers. Limiting housing to one fc/one personal per server/account won’t solve this issue completely (though it should tremendously help), so another solution will need to be layered with it. I’ve seen some propose that, once a house is relinquished, it should not be allowed to be reclaimed for X-amount of time; maybe make this a random amount of time, between 24 and 48 hours? Or, an idea I find interesting, implement a housing market board. When a house is demolished or relinquished, the original owner receives 80% of the purchase price back, and the house goes up for “auction” sale on the marketboard (it CANNOT be purchased immediately at the placard). For 24-72hrs afterward, players may “bid” on the house (I am not proposing a free auction - rather, that interested players may offer the houses price, determined by the system), and at the end of the “auction”, a random player among the bidders is accepted (and then, of course, all other bidders receive their gil back). This should essentially kill the housing market as we know it now.
- (My bf just proposed this one, wanted to add it in) Edit the wards so that every plot of land is the same size, and when you purchase said plot, you can choose what size house to build. So, every plot would cost the same amount, and then you pay an additional amount per the size of the house, and you can upgrade later if you need/want to start small. I thought this was genius (and I believe I've seen a few others here echo this solution) - then anyone can have whatever size house they want on a plot, thus eliminating this arbitrary limitation on larger houses. Adding onto this thought, make it so we can change a plot between personal and FC, and vice versa, without first having to demolish and repurchase. I'm not even sure why that one wasn't implemented from the start.
I am apprehensive to learn what manner of changes are to come, but will remain hopeful. I do love the wards and neighborhoods, and would not like to see instanced housing, but that would at least also be a solution. I hope we don’t see a “free” auction system either - that would simply promote RMT and leave many genuine players out of luck. Regardless, I hope this issue is being taken seriously, and that we can all look forward to the coming months.
Very happy to see a response to this issue, especially so quickly. As of last night there were a few small plots in the old districts on Zalera.
Before I go into this more, I do want to say thank you for adding more wards.
The problem with this is that unless there are more than a few wards added this does nothing to alleviate the problem, just a few more people will get lucky and able to buy a house in Shirogane.
On top of that, I am sure that there are more than a few people like myself and my brother, who decided that we would just get a house in the goblet, mist, or lavender beds and spent all of our money on that. We are a small FC and that was all of the funds our small group had been able to pull together. We are not great crafters and the money we spent on a medium plot represents all of the money we had scrapped together from just before 4.0. So even though you are adding new wards, this does nothing for us, who have spent everything.
My only suggestions for would be:
For housing issues that don't have to do with actually purchasing a plot I would suggest:
- One personal house per account (or per server) that is automatically shared with all characters on that account that are on that server. As players cannot make their alts into tenants & many want their alts to be able to access housing features, this will hopefully cut down on people buying a house for their alts.
- Make it easier for an FC member to turn their personal home into an FC home.
- Optional instanced housing for those who wish it.
- Opening up gardening to people who do not own a house, like a public garden off of the Botanist guild. Alternatively, create gardening plots that can be used by apartment-dwellers.
- Same for company workshops. Open them up to non-homeowners, like a public workshop off of the Garlond Ironworks in Mor Dhona or Skysteel Manufacturing in Ishgard.
While it's nice to hear more wards will be added something else needs to be done as well to give everyone the ability to own a home. So I hope whatever solution they come up with makes it so everyone would be able to own a home (instanced housing?).
That's what I expected, a half arsed solution, more wards doesn't fix anything, with 4.2 (which is 3-4 months away) we'll see the exact same issue pop up again and probably another apology, which seems to be the only thing Yoshi-P is good at these days.
There's plenty of other better solutions, instanced housing, or a more realistic solution: upgradeable apartments, which would make a lot of folks happy. I don't even want a house that I'll loose after my sub ends, I don't have the money nor time to sub all year round, the demolition thing was made up to free up some houses, all it did is piss off people who like to take a break.
I'm sorry if I'm a bit rude in this post, but after years of this, I don't want to see another apology in 3-4 months with another hotfix that doesn't address the issue properly. As for folks happy about this, hope you get lucky next time, because if you're not, have fun waiting for another apology a few days after 4.2 comes out.
