They'd have to make a separate inventory for cards, otherwise it wouldn't be fun. I would hate to get card drops when my Inv is already mostly full. In fact I think SE needs to make a garbage drop filter for both XI and XIV.

OK so it would be cool if you lose every card in your hand when you lose the game... your opponent gets one card out of the hand. Rest turn to spirit energy. Players would have to gather cards all the time to play.

Yes yes, 10,000 times yes to Triple Triad in FFXIV! Can't express myself better than that. Can't count how many times I fired up my PS1 back in the day just to put FFVIII in and play TT. Ahhhh....soooo many good memories!

Hehe this is a silly idea but it would be kind of neat to have another class of jobs (Disciple of _______) that leveled up for certain parts of the game/minigames.

for example:

Duelist (cards) (Duelist AF gear hehehe) Levels could be used to gate certain cards if there's some sort of balancing system they want to put in, maybe abilities to invoke certain rules or conditions.
Tamer (pets) Levels would gate certain pets, abilties to tame them come with levelling
Mediator (parley lol) Abilities to better negotiate as you level, or take on harder foes.
Machinist (repair and maintain your machina for a PvE/PvP battlegrounds that use them)

Also in response to what Yoshi-P had to say about it before... well... I think his problem is that he thinks there need to be PRIZE incentives to play...But there does not... The game should be able to be played just because it's FUN. When I play a game of Risk or Clue or some such with my friends, there isn't any prize at the end. When I play FFXIV, there isn't any prize waiting for me at the end... I play it because it is FUN. And that should be THE sticking point to any implemented minigames. If you make it about prizes, people will spam the game for the prizes until the point that they hate the game and never want to touch it again.

There should be NO prizes beyond perhaps bragging rights for how many times you've won, or more cards for the game. And that way people will only play it when they actually really want to, and that way it will remain fun.

The only prizes would be... taking your cards out to me. :D

I think he meant that he doesn't want to copy Triple Triad or Tetra Master into FFXIV because he thinks it needs its own card game with new rules for a MMO (possibly up to 4 players at a time.) Turning monsters into a card would be nice like how Behemoth is the hardest monster to get. Other than that, I can't think of any rules we can make and by the way Yoshi-P never played FFXI.

The problem with Tetra Master was that it was not a part of the main game. :/ It was a different game you had to pay for apart from FFXI and log out of FFXI to play...

Indeed. They would need to avoid doing that again. Put Triple Triad into the main game so there's no silly runaround when wanting to play it.

If I wanted to play TTT outside of the game, there are numerous websites that offer it. But I'd like it in FFXIV.

:D Think of how fun it would be to decide who gets drops based on a quick game of cards?

I'd also like to see a variety of minigames. There's supposedly gonna be a casino, some of them should be just for fun and not prizes. Even old maid is surprisingly fun in a group of strangers. I'm not suggesting old maid, exactly, but...I just mean it's not as hard as Yoshi-P implies, just so long as you don't "force" people to play by offering prizes and burn everyone out on them.

This would be a great idea!!!!

I'd like a more complex card game than Triple Triad. There many card game where Square-Enix can copy/get inspired from...

Indeed, rule no. 1 for Final Fantasy... You CAN'T copy same stuff and characters from previous series, that's why Tetra Master wasn't in FFXI (it must stay with FFIX.)

when i was younger i used to play yu-gi-oh with my brothers i always thought that was a rather neat system or magic the gathering, the way you the battle system worked. Never even tried to play the pokemon card game was always about collecting those >.>

Yeah something like Magic or something similar would be awesome as well. Something complex that takes some time and allows different strategies

I never fooled around with the card games in any FF title. But the idea is really cool for an MMO. If they kept adding new cards and added an app for my iphone I would give it a try.

This would be so easy to implement! The rules and background are already laid out!
