I was simply pointing out that there's nothing 'korean' about the new ifrit weaponry.

Now if people said the actual truth about what they look like it would come out something like this:

"I don't want fantasy weapons in Final Fantasy XIV"

But then of course they'd sound like a bit of a wally.

Yes korean MMO's do have weaponry like this, but saying all weaponry like this is korean is like me saying my left hand pinky is korean just because I painted my nails with UV nail varnish.

I'm sorry but I really have to ask you this, are you dumb? Because judging from your answers it seems so.
People are not saying that Ifrit's loots are wrong or aweful, they're saying they're not fitting FFXIV style and read carefully, FFXIV, not X or XII or IX or whatever.
FFXII weapons were great, but would they fit FFVII art? Nope, they would have just looked wrong.

It's the same scenario here, if you like or not a design is a matter of personal taste, but it's undeniable that most of those weapons are just out of place in FFXIV, just look at the whole picture, how does the archer look with that bow and that tunic on? and the gladiator with that cuirass and that sword? You may like the single piece, but the whole picture is just odd and that's a matter of fact.

Try to argue with some common sense instead of just saying "but it's already done here" picking random exemples.

EDIT: Oh and the weapons you were talking about in the previous post, the ones from the cinematic, looks like a Shellsplitter and an Armored Cavalry Bow, wich are already in game and are imho two of the best looking gears we have right now, still perfectly fitting the overall art of FFXIV

that's just another strawman and you know it.

you're literally homogenizing the entire FF franchise. Those who don't like the new designs tends to do so because it looks out of place in 14. It's a matter of degrees - they don't like it because they think the design went too far, not because it's a "fantasy" design. By using your logic, it would be ok to have Balthier's airship in FFT's setting because hey, they're both "final fantasy".

I wasn't debating whether it was fitting for the game, I was debating the fact that people are calling them korean when they're not. It's just annoying when people say something is 'something' when it's clearly not. Just wanted to get the facts straight, they aren't korean weapons, they're fantasy weapons.

Now if they were to say "I don't think the fantasy style of these weapons fits very well with the fantasy style of this game" then fair enough, but people are just saying "korean weapons shouldn't be in this game" which is stupid.

That being said I hope it gets the message across.

As for the games fantasy style, Ifrit weaponry may look odd in areas like Black Shroud, Thanalan or La Noscea but i think if they stood in Mor Dhona when it's all purplish the Ifrit weapons would fit right in. It's not so much the weapons as it is the backdrops sometimes. Mor Dhona looks very fantastical and has a more 'unrealistic' appearance to it, where as the other areas look a lot more believable.

they are unique weapons from a unique source, they shouldnt look like mass produced production line models made in the fashion of the City states of eorzea. Garleans have a totally different look that eorza people, as do amaalja and ixali. Why should every weapon look the same? You dont like the weapons, fine. I dont like some the weapons either, but i dont expect every weapon designed to appeal to my sensibilities. I fully embrace the idea they should have MORE difference in style between the weapons, because then you can choose a weapon that fits the style you prefer. Not to mention, as a pug i find the tiny knuckles to be unexciting. the jade and crab and bone hora are some of my least favored weapon types for pugilist. Not saying i like the ifrit pug ones, but hey i dont have to use them.

basically im fully of the opinion that artstyles should be damned when it comes to weapon design. No real world has every single thing created with one aesthetic in mind. Things in this game from unique or foreign sources should almost be required to look different.

Ifrit Sword In Mor Dhona

It's a little bit tacky I know, trying to carefull navigate an eraser around a character at 4 in the morning isn't one of my strong points and I could have probably tried to merge his colours to match the surroundings (you'll have to use your imagination for that) BUT I think the sword looks a bit more... fitting in Mor Dhona than it does in La Noscea.

Whatcha think?

I'm assuming you have little experience with korean mmos (good for you), so you can't really get what they mean... it's not like the weapons themselves looks korean, it's the fact that they lack of cohesion with the rest of the designs wich is what koreans mmo are famous for: cool and stunning things that took by themselves look great, but when you put them toghether it seems like they have a blind monkey as art director.

Tho I have to say I agree that these weapons seem fine if you consider they are Ifrit's loot since he's a Primal and he's quite big and tacky too xD I just hope that's not the direction they're gonna take for all of the future endgame stuff.

Can we just skip the foreplay and get straight to the glow sticks and techno music?

Well, i didn't like these weapons at all...i'd rather having as ifrit weapons stuff themed upon amaldaj'aa. I always though so cool how each beastman race if FFXI had its own theme...the stuff there matched perfectly with the race's technology...

But these weapons seems more like leftovers from another game that were recycled.

I am actually quite familier with korean MMo's, from Fly For Fun, Luna Online, Ether Saga Online, S4 League (It sort of counts), Lucent Heart, Legend Of Edda, Iris Online, heck the list goes on and one, I've played loads.

And sure Korean MMO's do have a habit of using eye-candy weapons, it draws in a crowd, but I just saying people are generalising when there were other places that were doing weaponry designs like that well before the koreans, they just copied the idea, they didn't invent it, so there's nothing korean about them. That's all I was trying to say really. Sorry, I get frustrated when people label things wrong, some guy kept calling my motorbike a Honda once and it downright got on my nerves 'cos there's was a blatantly obvious Yamaha badge on the side, ignorance just annoys me.

What I just keep thinking though is the original design was Tanaka's idea, it was his vision, it was what he wanted the game to be like. Now Yoshi has taken over, and the choice of 'making drastic changes to the game' was decided through a vote. We don't know how drastic those changes are going to be, we've barely hit the tip of the iceberg I think. The maps are going to be revamped so they say, so what are the maps going to look like afterwards? are they going to look as believable as they are now or are we going to see places more like City Of The Ancients from FF7 or perhaps that super-advanced city from FF8, perhaps a similar design to FFX perhaps where it's a mixture of old and new, there's no telling exactly what it is that Yoshi has planned, the original cinematic trailer may be scrapped altogether because it looks too 'medievil fantasy' for what he's changing the game into.

So perhaps Ifrit stuff is just a little glimpse of the future, perhaps things are going to dip more into fantasy and veer away from the realistic designs we've had so far.

I like the weaponry, I admit it doesn't fit too well when you're standing around sunny La Noscea with a staff that glows from the fire of the flame god himself, but sometimes things just look weird.

I think the weapons look amazing. I always wondered how they would make weapons with aura not look ridiculous and in my opinion they kept it classy with these weapons. They may look bulky but does no one else think weapons needed to be a bit larger? I have a hell of a time seeing my Puglist weapons even when I am in active mode. Yeah these are BIG but that's because they are literally Ifrits horns. If you want realistic then there it is. The scale of Ifrits horns and the horns on the weapons are probably pretty damn close. To say it is not FF style art is saying that Ifrit himself is not FF style art because those are his horns. Erase the horns from the weapons and you got FF style weapon grips.

First off im no troll. Just opinionated.

How can you say the scale is correct? Look at the PGL item horns. They are miniature compared to others! He has that many different sized horns? Your addition is a lil flawed as well. FF weapon grip + FF style monster horn usually = ff style weapon. But it looks like they added in elements from some Korean styled game influences which out weigh those. So it is now (FF Style Grip + FF Style Monster Horn) / Korean Style Raised to the 2nd = Korean styled weapon with FF styled Grip/stock.

But in all seriousness. No.

It still amazes me how people react on things like loot or the fight itself. Now that's way out of proportion. Either side makes it sound as it's the end of the world if the other side 'wins'. Seriously, are you guys like that in real life?
