Ifrit Fight

I blame the job ordeal on Tanaka and whoever else decided to go with none final fantasy names for the classes, sure it is refreshing but then why call it final fantasy? Sure it is also more realistic but then again... it is called Final FANTASY for a reason you are allowed liberties in that regard. I was actually taken a back when I read that those were the names of the classes I was like... those are not FF at all...

all items are cool but the thaumaturge weapon, it seems a ps move upside down or a ifrit mucus :(

Then I would just not listen to that album and play the older ones and play other games.
I was a record deal musician myself, and I would NEVER write music that somebody else want to listen to.
I wrote music for expressing what I thought. Not what people wanted from it.
It just depends on how you look at games/music.

I know that they need to earn their money, ofcourse.

It's not that there's a problem with any of this content(I think it's all great) as much as it's a problem with the inconsistent story-telling. There's a way for them to introduce the jobs without "taking a chainsaw to the already existing lore". Jobs are separate from classes and as such may have their own lore. They can be offshoots of the classes, for example:

Thaumaturges, lore wise, focus on both life and death. Black Mage being their job, there could be a branch of the Thaumaturge's Guild that focuses specifically on death and the associated destructive magic. You would have to have sufficient knowledge of Thaumaturgy before you are allowed to join their ranks.

On the topic of the weapons though: Absolutely love them. They have a slight fire-based glow, which you would expect from the weapons obtained from what is essentially the God of Fire.

I was never a fan of hard modes, they ruined the end game in wow for me (its not the same when you first need to kill/farm a boss on normal mode to get loot to fight a tad harder version of the very same boss again for better loot) I realy hope this "Hard Mode" style is nothing like that.
I'm a huge supporter of "one difficulty troughout" for MMOs, hard modes are just a cleavrly disguised time sink that takes away the feeling of accomplishment by downing a boss for the first time and just serve to make the end game so very repetetive.

Hopefully "normal mode" will be like the storyline solo missions, something everyone can for lore etc do but not much in the way of a fight(hell toss in parley part for the crafters I guess) , and then make the "hard mode" the difficult party based fight.

For the weapon art; I sort of like it, however I wish they didnt look so bloated, the glow effect is subtle enough for me, the weapons just look like they would'nt be practical to use.

Either way can't wait for the patch to come to see how it all turns out =)

have you ever played a final fantasy game? a square game? a japanese rpg, or hell even a japanese game? hmm have you ever played a game? they are not really about staying realistic. they are about having fun, doing crazy things and bad ass glowing weapons. chill out man if you dont wanna play or use materia or get an ifrit weapon then dont. we all understand you are unhappy with everything SE does but unless you are going to provide some good constructive criticism please just STOP

Fairly sure ifrit is in the r36 cutscene, its been a while so I could be wrong.

These weapons look amazing. I'm also interested in what hard mode means. I hope if anything it is unlocked after you clear it the first time, but that could get tricky if you have players who haven't cleared it on normal. Anyway, I'm super excited about this fight. :)

I don't criticize everything I find imperfect. Sometimes I defend their decisions because I think that they are good. Assuming that I do not find anything satisfactory is insulting. But do realize that I am not one to participate in meaningless chatter. If something is good enough, it is good enough. I won't criticize it. That doesn't mean I need to come out and say that it is good either. That may be beneficial on a personal level, but criticism is much more important as far as improving the actual product goes, and I find that ultimately more important. If there is no criticism to be found, the end result is good and should be assumed to be as such.

Hard Mode is simply the higher level fight. Remember there is gonna be Level 30 and Level 50, (or was it 25 and 45?) i can't remember lol.

Constructive criticism means pointing out the positive along with the negative. Film critics don't only talk about the movies they don't like. Even people like The Filthy Critic, who is best known for his reviews of bad movies, knows enough to talk about films he actually enjoys.

If all you do is talk about the negative and say to yourself, "Well I think this is good, so I don't need to say anything about it," is it any surprise to you when people make the assumption that all you do is whine and complain?

It shouldn't be, because in essence that's exactly what you're doing.

If SE isn't being told when they're doing something right, how do they know anything they do is being done right?

Well, now HCs might be rejoicing. Big shiny weapons to stay in active mode in Ul'dah. I must agree with some comments regarding them looking more like korean MMO stuff than FF weapons. Now the next step is making weapons having some kind of aura based on tier...+1 pops green smoke, +2 are blazing and +3 have a fallic image flying above the player and pooping glitter!

GIMME GIMME GIMME! They look awesome.. the bow looks to big but still very nice.

Now why isn't IGN and other site reporting news on the Ifrit Battle hmm? If that video alone can sell the game to people, I think it's more news worthy than the cheap shot after mentioning the Chocobos and Airships.

Wait, its IGN, which I only started reading after Gamespot went down the crapper. Sigh, I need to find a new gaming news site.

I think you're over-reacting a bit here. They have a subtle ember glow on certain parts. It's not like they can guide offshore ships to land or anything. Also FF games have had some pretty obnoxious looking weapons in the past, it's not like everything needs to be super realistic and bland looking.

As pretty as these are, ultimately they're materia fodder.

I think any weapons that incorporate parts of Ifrit are gonna look a bit Korean MMO a little and i do think some of them look a bit 'fat' (talking to you Ifrit's Bow).
The lance and halberd look really nice. Glowing weapons were a big demand around 6 months ago so i don't know why people are surprised that we are getting them now (since it has been said it can take 6 months to make a set of gear or weapons).

There's nothing 'korean mmo' about them, korean mmo art style was based on korean anime style which in turn was copied from japanese anime style. If anything, korean weaponry designs are all copies of japanese mmo's!

Geez, peeps need to learn a bit of anime history.

I like most of them. The bow I have slight concerns with, it looks slightly odd, and the Pugalist weapons are down right ugly, but the rest: can I have them now please?

Glowing weapons I can take, even in an FF, if done tastefully .. these weapons are anything but tasteful when it come to their hugely exaggerated size, they're completely implausible as weapons, especially the Pugilist's. The designs are fine, more or less (though the bow is a bit OTT) but their size is appalling.

They'd not look out of place in WOW, and that's a terrible thing to say about an item from FF.
