I actually much prefer this too. For one, the dark setting and colors much better suit the theme, that bland empty sky really did nothing for you in the shot you submitted. You are in fact more emphasized as the back element of this alternate shot than you are as the front element of the shot you submitted.

From the judge in me:

I see good in both pictures. the second one you posted tells more of a story.
* having you centered, puts you in the power position with your "minions" on each side. * Even though you are in the back the framing pulls the eye towards you because of the triangle shape (wide at bottom and everything positioned staggered till we see you in the center)
* There is also the symmetry thing you have going on and your soldiers dont pull focus off you..

these little things all are appealing to the eye and thus people are drawn to this picture more than the other. does that make sense?

From the model in me:
It's easy to get tunnel visioned with your own work. everything starts to not work and it's hard sometimes to put an objective eye on it. So then you second guess everything you do. but like i said both pictures were good. So dont beat yourself up. At least you now have some perspective and you know you have the shots you need in you <3


as for the mentor thing.. im still on the fence about it, but having a sounding board is definitely a plus.. dont be afraid to talk to the cycle 4 models no one will throw you under the bus and will help :)

When my helpers in my fc or my bf were not enough, I started badgering Brun. She especially helped making the last picture I had to take better with her feedback and help.
For us YT2 models, we had 6 weeks to take all 12 rounds and extra pictures and I'd say at the last 3 I was in a major slump and did not like my own pictures and ideas at all anymore. This is when outside opinions are super helpful. Brun helped with the polish and the mentors were surprisingly positive, lifting my spirits again.
Lesson learned: Don't try to barrel through this competition completely on your own. Even without the mentor system especially in your cycle with many veterans and now with the big skype chat you have a lot of experienced people around you, that surely will give you a hand if you ask nicely. :)

We're getting close to the end! Round 5 is up.

Big thanks to my pals and my awesome FC-mates of The Moogle Conspiracy for helping out with my shot for this round! Felt bad I ended up using a shot that only had four of 'em in there, tho', as there were a bunch of 'em there. Afterwards, we all marched out and had some group shots for fun. Wow! I absolutely love this shot! Me personally, I think it's much better than the one you submitted. Your lighting draws much more attention to you, that is that even an aetheryte near you? idk.. but who cares b/c you're so well lit! I love that the weather is clear and you can see more of the background, it brings so much more depth and dynamic to the shot, and your framing is so dead on! I'm so in love with this shot now! <3

I know, I really liked it but as more people told me either the first or last shot was their favorite I started to think there must be something wrong with what I was seeing.

So, before I was eliminated, I was playing with this concept for almost a month. One set was unusable because it wasn't clearly in RT, so I threw it up on Tumblr and it became reblogged like 50 times, hahaha.

I gave a rock concert in Mor Dhona.

Loved it, but the only thing fitting the theme was the background. Otherwise, it could have been taken anyplace with a Postmoogle.

Still incredibly cute but yes, it's a weaker theme.

Looks like I'll be the next to go! Still, top 5 is awesome!!! ^_^

A mysterious woman looking out a window, the odd use of a Dungeon Entrance Teleport thing, a Cosmo Canyon Throwback, an Action Shot/Scenic Shot combined in one, and, finally, a very strange concept that forced focus on the most used item in all of FFXIV - The Aetheryte Crystals. Unfortunately, this last shot is a great example of "cool concept, weak photo." T^T But i'd love to see someone take it, and turn it into an amazing shot with better gear and weather...just for kicks! :D

Edit: Hearing all the different ways you guys would better my picture, I realize didn't fail at the concept part of the shoot...just the photo part! ((In reference to the Skype conversation.)) I can rest easy knowing I at least had an awesome concept.

It's sad to probably see you go. Looking back you were one of the most experiment-happy, risk-taking models this cycle and that breaks new ground for all of us I think. Models will learn from it for the future, pick up ideas and refine themselves. I think that's how ENTM always gets better and better!

Brun-chan, where in the world was your shot taken? I've never seen those surroundings before, and I meant to ask earlier but I've been working hard to prepare before expansion (no more relic drops gained but got CRP to 50 tonight with the help of an fc mate!!)

I'm pretty sure its in the Rowena complex. Bumpilicious.

Go into the large building, like you're going to haggle with Rowena, but take the first right through partially-hidden doors!

There are some spurious crafters there, all eager to take your outdated things and make them shiny!

Man, inspiration struck for the next round at the last minute after weeks of no clue what I would do.

Made a party finder to advertise our competition over on Sarg; hopefully it'll increase traffic.
