They probably will. 1.18 patch notes haven't even come out yet, we don't even know everything that's going to be in 1.18. If SE says Chocobos are having a grand introduction, then they probably will. Devs haven't told us everything. We don't know. The guy I quoted shouldn't have speculated. Neither should have you. And riding god damn chocobos isn't god damn gameplay its god damn novelty. If you rent the yellow bird or summon it out your butt hole IT DOESNT MATTER BECAUSE IF THE CORE GAMEPLAY OF FF14 SUCKS, YOUD BE AIMLESSLY WANDERING A GAME THATS GOING TO GET SHUTDOWN; WHICH ISNT THAT SATISFYING.

That's no mount system for a MMO game, as I was implying. You'l note that Dynasty Warriors Online's actual gameplay is little more than lobby rooms for games of Dynasty Warriors.

But this is neither here nor there. Chocobo rentals have been announced for 1.19. any other information is speculation and doomsaying. And frankly If you don't have faith in SE to pull off any wondrous game from FFXIV, than why are you honestly still here?

And btw, ffxiv is a product i bought and they opened a forum to hear what their customers had to say hence i've got all the rights to complain. I see what you're saying. A lot of people think those F2P have a "mount system". I played the game for a little bit to enjoy the kill count but you can't build a community on lobby based instances for sure.

I used to respect users until I saw the redickuluss posts that were being made, by people like you, while I got trolled by making unbiased decisions that weren't attacking other posters, or SE. You can't avoid the complain train no matter what you implement, chocos are awesome, and even if they're overdue I haven't heard of any suicides over not having one yet. If they updated them earlier I'm sure the same people would be complaining they don't look enough like the realistic horsebirds in their backyard.

Edit: Also I gotta say I appreciate the increased interaction from devs and reps with the community lately, it's always really welcome to get clarifications and info.

I find this disappointing as these are not real mounts and i hate that whole Chocobo rental System from FFXI. Which i had heard they changed over the years(dunno if it did as i stopped playing) but that is another step backwards for me. Unless you see it as the flight points in WOW which in that case sounds ok but slower...

From the sounds of it you will eventually be able to raise chocobos. So, what's your point?

Point is we're getting them soon. We ALL know this game was atrocious at release so bickering about it now is pointless.

Yes, we're getting rental chocobos. It's a viable gilsink. We'll most likely eventually get our own chocobo that we can raise since a recent dev post informed us of such a system coming. We'll be getting more stuff for chocobos but we'll have to wait a bit. For now, I'm just pumped for the update next thursday.

This should have been out last month... i get the delay was to stick in more content though, these guys either need more sleep, or to go to sleep then prepare content, come on new team, get to bed.

Well at the risk of sounding like a broken record, large scale updates are supposed to arrive at a decent pace after the basis for the new combat system is implemented.

Because the players whined and cried about them and forced the developers to implement them before they're fully ready with their plans. So you get it in little pieces rather than all at once at a future date. Nothing wrong with this.

The development team has changed and the game is failing in case you hadn't noticed. Plans have to change in both those situations.

True. Also the fact that Yoshi-P is pulling 14-16 hour shifts with a few hours travel, i dont think Tanaka would be able to apply himself in that way, not anymore. Tanaka is still a legend in my view but Yoshi-P is the right medicine needed. I think, in time, Yoshi-P should appoint a Director because being Producer&Director must be pretty stressful.

I have nothing against Tanaka, I just think his era of great games are slowly diminishing but this was his first major fail game. However Yoshi-P is Young has MMO experience Recently talkative on the Forums pulls all nighters to fix this broken game, I don't care what anyone else thinks, I'm a Full believer of Yoshi-P that he will make this game great from the content of this patch its looking very promising.

This is his first major patch really and he's centering the involvement of the game around Grand Companies with the ranking system and the Storyline too boot.. sounds like to me were doing FFXI Storyline missions with your nation all over again =) I'm glad that part is back! :D with an all new renovating story!

Edit: Also its looking that the Delay was the right step.. The almighty Grand Companies take stage! If it wasn't for the delay we may not have gotton the Grand Companies now =)

As for the possibility of different mounts other than the yellow birds we have come to love, I'd prefer it if we are just given a wide array of different types of Chocobos rather than different mounts.

I think the people who think that having only Chocobos is robbing FFXIV's chance of being more diverse are forgetting that while diversity is nice, Identity and Originality is better in this particular case. Other MMO's have other mounts. XIV could have other mounts in the sheer amount of chocobo options. Not even just color or armour/clothing choices. If you go back and look at the Chocobo artwork througout the years, you will notice how different the designs were. Even if it was a longer beak, wider wings, bigger feet, longer neck, etc. It was still noticeably different. A good example are some of the chocobos in FFXIII the ones with those really long ear feather things. They looked a lot wiser, as if to say Chocobos are these mysterious knowledgeable birds who have walked the earth for thousands of years. I think thats kinda cool. Plus, there is nothing stopping Yoshida from walking into the art department and asking people there to come up with a whole bunch of new designs for chocobos.

When I played WoW and I would look at someones epic shiny dragon mount, sometimes I would think "Man! I want one of those!"

FFXIV can still provide that feeling with only Chocobos in the mix. "Woah, his chocobo is way bigger than the usual! It has glowing blue eyes, some sick ass looking armor and has a completely different running animation!"

Right now, the devs need to focus on making the game feel more like a Final Fantasy, something that has been admitted by a large part of the community. Adding in other creatures as mounts may serve to do the very opposite. Other mounts can still make it feel like a Final Fantasy game but its a very touchy and delicate matter that can't just be carelessly implemented. Maybe later down the line when the game has some years on its belt and is much more established. Maybe then, they could add some other stuff in when its already established as a great Final Fantasy game. But no, for now, all we need are Chocobos.
