Gardening - Harvesting

Best case is 8 seeds, you can plant before the glazenuts/sun lemon/apricots are done. So when you harvest the apricots and get seeds, you then plant the sun lemon before the glazenuts are ready. Then pick the glazenuts and plant them while the sun lemon is growing, then pick the sun lemons and plant apricots and so on.

You don't wait for everything in the garden to finish, you just keep planting as soon as you harvest one. This makes 8 seeds possible from the garden each step.

Also, if you get short on glazenut seeds than just plant 4 glazenuts, 3 sun lemon and an apricot one go around to get that extra glazenut seed since your apricot stash keeps going up.

A good Gardener can plant that 1 seed different that will get them what they need as well as plant in the correct order to ensure the crosses they need. Remember that it will cross with whatever is next to it when its planted, then you can put something else next to it and they won't cross. So you can totally control what you get.

I may have found the "x" in
Star Anise + ____x_____ = Star Anise.

This is old news to people who have kept the little secret to themselves, but I'm excited as it doesn't seem like anyone has taken advantage of it and the Jutes on my server. :)

I will test it again and post about it again in a week or two!

Using Lyrinn's theory on this reddit post http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen..._2_hypothesis/ i decided to try and do a bit of experimenting myself. My goal is to find the plant that creates an apricot self loop. (if this is already known please let me know xD) My first attempt was Apricot+ Faerie Apple, i just harvested and got Honey Lemon seeds. It seems that combination was number 4 on that list. "Tier difference of higher orders result in the lower tier seed +2." So next on my list is trying Sun Lemon+Apricot to see what i get, since according to this spreadsheet Sun Lemon+ Sun Lemon = Honey Lemon. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...any=true#gid=0

P.S. No SS cause i'm on PS3, too much of a hassle.

So, I've confirmed that Thanalan soil isn't required for crossbreeding, it just greatly increases the rate of it.
I plant my usual beds:
7 6 5 O x O
8 - 4 x - x
1 2 3 0 x O

with 0 being planted with whatever's cheapest, since it doesn't intercross with anything anyway.
Planting like this with G1 Thanalan leads to 3-4 seeds usually. G3 Thanalan 6-7.
For the starter tiers at any rate. I use fertilizer to stagger them so that there's no wasted plants after the initial one.

With the market being flooded with seeds as it is, I think it's crucial to figure out ways to reduce overhead costs.
The most obvious of which is cutting back on Thana3 consumption.

Although I stress that Thanalan soil really does increase the rate a lot, as only 2 of 8 beds planted with Shroud3 have resulted in intercrossed x5 seeds.

Under "Confirmed Crosses", the spreadsheet lists Halone Gerbera + Almond two times, but with two different seed outcomes.
H.G. + Almond = Broombush seeds. It does NOT produce Jute seeds like the spreadsheet says.

The spreadsheet maintainer hasn't corrected this in quite awhile and doesn't accept comments/corrections through the submission form.

Thankfully, you can still produce Jute seeds with Broombush + Azeyma Rose. I was able to recover from this mistake through that combo.

Well color me confused :eek: I planted a 6 plot garden of Mandrakes/Dalamud Popotos and today I harvested the Mandrakes - along with 2 bags of La Noscean Leek seeds and 1 bag of Azeyma Rose seeds. I wasn't aware you could end up with multiple seed types.

My guess, would be that you planted the 3 mandrake before the popoto or at least 1 1-2 of them, while something else was still in the garden and it crossed with that. Remember, it crosses with whatever is next to it at the MOMENT its planted.

No that garden was empty, I planted it in a circle starting with the top left popoto. The Mandrakes all had Thanalan while the Popotos had + yield soil. I harvested the popotos today, ten on each plant and no seeds. I just replanted the exact same way so I'll see how it goes.

Everyone ready to start a week of fervent speculation on what crosses to the new chocobo food?

I'm going to guess that the seeds from the two star nodes are going to be involved (La Noscean Leek, Young Cieldalaes Spinach and Shroud Tea Leaves) if only because they're not used in any current inter-crosses.

(I'm also going to guess that all our efforts will eventually be nerfed once those vendors in the housing district that always talk about having stock as soon as they finish negotiating with the botanist guild actually finish negotiating with the botanist guild . . . but such is the way of MMOs)

When I read about the chocobo food all I thought was "oh dear here I we go again". Let the speculation and testing begin!

I am somewhat worried about the food being obtainable by gardening though.
So far everything that was produced by gardening belonged to the FC. Our jute/broombush/glazenuts have been used to produce minions and furniture, and all the other fruits and veggies are stored in the FC chest and are free to take if you need them. But I imagine chocobo foods will be a lot more popular than our entire fruit supply.

But I suppose we'll need to see how much food we can produce and need first :)

I imagine supply is going to be very limited at first but that it'll become less of a problem once personal houses are released in 2.3.8 and everyone can have their own garden.

Been spending a lot of time this week stocking up on Grade 3s and working on acquiring/ranking up more FCs (for gardens!) for the patch. Really excited to see the different kinds of chocobo feed and new housing stuff. :D

Krakka Root doesn't give our chocobos any beneficial effects when used for summoning so it looks like it's just there to be a cheap and easy-to-obtain option to help people who just want to level their birds and man that makes me happy.

A little update re: shroud soil success.
Last I posted I was at 2 successful (+5 seeds) of 8 plots, but it evened out over time.
Currently at 10 out of 16 successful plot, with this crazy (but definitely outlier) result of 20 seeds from a single plot.

Not sure. If we are lucky the existing chains and loops aren't changed.

I hope that the only changes are to intercrosses that currently produce the same seeds as result. For example (using the gardening sheet as reference), Honey Lemon seeds can be obtained from Prickly Pineapple+Chamomille, PP+Faery Apples, PP+Sun Lemon, and Rolanberry+Mirror Apple. I can imagine that some of these will change to one of the new seeds. *prays for loops to stay intact*

On a different note: minion seeds!!! *dances happy dance*

I planted a cycle of Broombush/Almonds this weekend to test whether the loops (or at least that loop) are changed by the patch.

The spreadsheet has been updated to reflect this error.

Comments are also open to the public (meaning anybody can leave a comment on the spreadsheet).

You can also edit your own form submission as needed. These have been features available since the creation of the spreadsheet.

Is there a known intercross loop for producing apricot kernels?

As in: Apricot Kernel + ? = Apricot

I just saw your screenshot of gathering 20 bags of apricot kernels?? That's crazy! I didn't see where anybody else commented on it, but that's really extraordinary.

I better sell my seed stash while I can still get something for them lol.

Right, first planting of the 2.3 growing season - Aaaaaaall Krakka Root, all the time, plus Grade 3 Shroud Soil. Let's see how much of the cheap stuff we can factory farm.

("Cheap Stuff" I say but it's over 3k per seed from the vendor, though I did it in a rush on my coffee break at work so possibly I could have just gone out with a scythe and gathered it for free.)

Planted Krakka with various seeds, for science! Used almond, chamomile, glaze nut, broombrush, annnnd apricot. Will update when nothing comes of this in a few days :P

Bamboo sticks are a 2 star botanist gather from Upper LaNoscea. Camped there now waiting to see at what time it becomes available, amount, etc.

Ok, here's the info. The node spawns at 7am game time. It was marked as "rare", slot 6. Used up my gp to find its location etc. Not sure if I Blessed Harvest will work, but as it is marked "rare". meh.

Whew, it took awhile to plan out the gardens because I'm just wanting to do everything and be everywhere on patch day!
Basically split each garden into two crossbreed tests, to try and cover more ground on finding out new delicious recipes~

My FC just needs the chocobo food at this rate, so I planted a patch for that. I'm thinking of trying krakka with roses after these are ready; I'll let y'all know what happens.

We're STILL working up to glazenuts for the brooms and other stuff. >< Not many in my FC interested in gardening (by not many, I mean 2 of us and I'm not melded enough to gather soil. :( )

A FC mate of mine bought 1 broom (100k on my server). He used it when we were on Fair condition (I asked him to wait, but ah well... xD ) with about 8-10 birds in the stable. I 'trained' my bird and got 12k exp. On Fair, we get how much? About 9k? I don't remember. ^^;

I think it varies on the rank of the chocobo, too. With our stable in fair condition I trained one friend's bird and it gained about 3.9k but a different friend's bird only gained about 2k.

Dang, was it that low? This is one of those "I should've written it down things". >< Someone donated their quest carrots (erm, krakka) to the FC and I fed 5 FC mates' birds (ranks varied from about 5-8). The exp seemed the same for each but I didn't pay attention as I should have. My bird is rank 9 and did get 12k exp with the Good stables.

Soil used was Grade 3 Thanalan

Today i harvested them and received as following;

Row1: Glazenut + [Apricot & 1x Seed] + [Glazenut & 1x Seed]
Row2: [Apricot & 1x Seed] + [Glazenut & 1x Seed] + [Apricot & 1x Seed]
Row3: [Glazenut & 1x Seed] + [Apricot & 1x Seed] + [Glazenut & 1x Seed]

Total yield:
Glazenut = 8
Glazenut Seed = 7
Apricot Seed = 8

Planted pre-patch: Broombush/Almond loop cycle

The almonds bloomed today so I harvested. Got 4 Broombush seeds so that loop appears intact so far.

For me on New stable (before cleaning) / after cleaning:

Choko level / +XP on uncleaned (new) / +XP on Cleaned / +%increase:

1 / +236 / uknown [not wasted krakka on that] / uknown
5 / +3538 / +4410 / +24.65%
6 / +3920 / +4900 / +25%

So once we'll know the yield of Krakka root we can decide if the brooms are worth the 25% increase ...

EDIT:

So I've just harvested my first grow of Krakka roots and yield is 18 roots per bed using Grade 3 Shroud Topsoil. No interbreeds as I was aiming for highest possible first yiled. This also means no seeds but as those could be purchased I'm not worried that much about that so far as one sold root will atm pay for the seed. Will plant next with some interbreeding tests - have only 6 beds free on large patch and will be looking for combos not tested by Yunie ...

EDIT2:

Planted now test patch witk Krakka Roots and La Noscean Lettuce + Paprika + Millioncorn so others can look into different combos if possible. And now to feed all my hungry chocos ;)

Grade 2 thanalan soil. I'll leave it for a day or two and then tell you what I did!. ;)

Ok, my Krakka finished over night. Everything else is still in its second stage of growth. Used Grade 3 Thanalan.

I planted in a clockwise manner, 1 through 8.

1 - Krakka. Recieved 9 Krakka root. No seeds.
2 - Almond. Not able to harvest.
3 - Krakka. 9 krakka root and 1 Sylkis bud seeds.
4 - Almond. Not able to harvest.
5 - Krakka. 9 Krakka root. 1 Sylkis bud seeds.
6 - Chamomile. Not able to harvest.
7 - Krakka. 9 Krakka root. 1 Curiel root seeds.
8 - Chamomile. Not able to harvest.

The second patch is as follows:

1 - Krakka. 9 krakka root. No seeds.
2 - Glazenut. Not able to harvest.
3 - Krakka. 9 Krakka root. No seeds.
4 - Glazenut. Not able to harvest.
5 - Krakka. 9 krakka root. No seeds.
6 - Broombrush. Not able to harvest.
7 - Krakka. 9 Krakka root. No seeds.
8 - Apricot . Not able to harvest.

So it would seem, krakka + almond = Sylkis. and Krakka + chamomile = Curiel. Will post the results of the other seeds when they come up.
