That would be XI. This is one thing they at least got right with the current billing system compared to PlayOnline.
I should probably put it on record that I have no issues with SE using an external company to do it's payment gateway. What I have issues with is the legitimacy/behavior/policies of ClickandBuy specifically that are being brought into serious question. We want to be able to TRUST a payment gateway rather than fear it.
The crysta value issue is one for people who actually have it as a payment option.
What about those who don't want 2 retainers? We need a 26USD card. What about those who want 1 retainer? We need a 28USD card. What about those who want one retainer for one month and two retainers for the second month? We need a 29USD card.
There is no possibility to have as many cards as options in the game, so basically, some people (the majority) will have some left-over Crysta in their account. This is free spare cash for SE, at no interest rate. Timed by the number of players using prepaid cards, this actually makes quite a sum.
This scheme is unfortunately legal in most, if not all, countries (at least in US and Europe when the servers shut down they have to cash us back that leftover, but that's it). You may want to support that, but I certainly don't want.
Also that's totally overlooking that the retainer is basically more inventory space: something that every other game offers for free (or in-game currency).
I'm all for prepaid Crysta cards. I mean itunes has them, PSN has them, I maintain my Xbox Live account exclusively with them. They have to be activated by the seller, so they can't be stolen easily. It's a proven system, it works.
Then the rest can go to next month? i mean who does not want 2 more NPCs? room is very limit even for casuals. But i agree the only issue i have with crysta is i have to pay 15$ when i only want 12.99$ of it. it would take 3month to get enough money to just buy 10$ worth because i have 6.03$ left over then i have about 1.01$ left over -.- so at the end SE would stay with about 1.01$ of my money and can't do anything with it even if i get a npc they still have 1cent. I would not mind so much but still i like to just pay my 12.99 and noting more.
so on that i agree.
I'm signed up for Crysta right now, and not very happy about it. I plan to move out soon and I don't like the thought of having to pay different amounts of money for the game each month because there will always be some Crysta left over.. I would prefer to pay just what I owe.. no more, so each month's bills will be predictable/reliable.
I don't like surprises... "Oh yeah, this is the month I have to pay $30... damn.. last month was only 15." ._. That kinda thing..
Since this is my main concern, that means you didn't get my point. So disregarding the reason, let's say I do not want to give SE a cent more than what I need to pay the current month, as well as use C&B. Hence my request to for the ability to pay exact months with crysta/paypal.
I support paypal greatly !
Paypal is just a lame as Click&Buy only not as obviously so.
I had Paypal keep charging my credit card 2-5 fees when I wasn't even using my account. I called them up and they said there s no record of those transactions so I had to get them blocked and reversed by my credit card company.
I want to pay SE directly. The exact amounts. If something happens with billing I know I can call yen up and they'll adjust it. I know they won't charge me random hidden fees.
One thing i love about wow when i play 60days to try it out and i forgot to cancel payment i call them up and they give me back my money within 1-3days. Now try and do that with SE company they just keep your money and wont even try to fix anything.
i hope SE can fix there shit and allow us to pay them and by the look of no Dev post it seem they not thinking of any new payment for now.....
I love how most of the people complain about Click&buy, have not even had any experience with them outside FFXIV, and that would be 0, because we have not even been charged monthly yet. People really need to take the tin hats off. People have good and bad experiences with any company, but the bad ones sometimes get blown into great big stories that don't even seem to make sense after a while.
I really hope they're gonna fix the Payment System, or I'm not even gonna be able to log in after they start charging ... ; ;
but everyone having issue some there area not even on there list sometime it's a city or 5 city away from there own. This is bullshit from SE and the dev team not even going to try and answer maybe this would get them to answer. it's so many step it's pain in the ass to even sign up to them.
You're right, I've never had experiences with C&B, but I felt they were shady, I read their TOS, and I discovered the charges for having an account with them per year if you don't use it.
They didn't show that up front, and that made me not trust them or want to do business with them. The last time I was on the C&B site, I couldn't even find that provision anymore, but because I found it there previously I want nothing to do with them.
Likewise, it would be great for SE to avoid the fees associated with Paypal transfers. SE hosting their own billing services using a practical, IE. Don't charge people a full month for 5 days of game time, is the best option, and one that people will trust because players who pick up FFXIV are already going to be familiar with the company.
This doesn't even touch the fact that many players have difficulty with the SE account management system in the first place. I talked to one person last week who thought he was cancelling a subscription and he ended up closing his account entirely, losing his characters.
I helped several players at game launch get through the account creation process because it wasn't clear, and one of them was accepted to Harvard!
It's clear from this thread, other threads about it, and the discussions around it revolving from the FFXI conversion that this is going to be a major hurdle for SE when the time comes for XI conversion and an XIV subscription fee next year. It doesn't matter if the company is legitimate or not, but the payment methods just aren't trusted by a significant portion of the potential subscriber base.
I can't even pay through paypal. I'm a verified paypal member and have never had any problems paying with paypal before. when I try to buy crysta through paypal who then pays playspan it works. then for some reason playspan cancels the order. I've talked with playspan and they say I'm triggering a security filter.
they won't tell me what filter only possble ways to fix it. I have followed them all and playspan still cancels my orders. it's been one year and this problem still exists. my only options are click and buy and ultimate gamer cards which are through playspan. oddly enough the cards work.
I've even been hung up on when talking with playspan. i kept insisting on talking to a manager and after five minutes got hung up on. i just wish SE would let us direct pay. both in 11 and 14.
While I don't have an XI account, I've been lurking there and watching their dev tracker for updates.
The following comment from a rep appeared in the thread currently sitting at 683 posts: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...l=1#post160436
One might say this is good news, as it is an indication that the XI fallout has possibly turned the heads of SE accountants, who are the ones that matter in this environment. I'll be continuing to watch (as I'm sure a few others will be too).Quote:

Half the freaking world can't even use Crysta and about 5-10% of all major banks are going to refuse charges from C&B to go through - for the protection of their customers.
I'd rather deal with POL.
seem a lot of ffxi players had to pay x2 i pretty happy this happen maybe now ffxiv would have better payments before it goes p2p.

Sorry XI players.
If this is how SE is gonna be about their payments, I'm so glad TERA is supposed to be coming out next month! Sure I'll ditch years worth of work over a silly thing like principles. Moves like this are shady. I would expect this kind of move from a company like Rainbow Vacuums or something.. not from a company like Square Enix.
Oh hey everyone, btw TERA is supposedly coming out next month! Ditch the Xenophobic JP ONRY racist bastards and go with a company that lets you direct pay outside of Japan.
yea SE method of payment really sucks
Even with 23 page it seem the dev post wont even post something like they did with FFXI. I wonder why because we not paying the game so it does not matter what ffxiv players think? I hope you understand SE that when FFXIV does pick up FFXI would die out with the ps2 limitations not if you cancel the ps2 and lower the price for FFXI by half.
But really come on dev any information on the payment system would be nice.
an article from ign today said Tera is delayed til spring 2012. Sorry (not really) to burst your bubble

Seeing how you feel so strong about this i guess you wont be posting here anymore right? i mean you have to now wait for next year seeing how Tera is not coming out next month. So using your own word i hope you leave this forums and never post again seeing how you hate this game and all that good stuff :)
What the..? King of putting words into people's mouths. I like how someone mentions TERA and all of a sudden it's "GTFO fanboi".
The topic at hand is the unfair billing system SE is trying to implement. I love FFXI and I have hopes for FFXIV and I'd like to continue playing them both. Since they've decided to take a stance and inform their customers of their decision to openly rob them, I thought I would just point out there's other games. And yes, I was just going off of the rumor that said TERA had a high possibility of being released next month. Did people like not read the entire thread, see the word TERA and commence raaaaaage?
As for not posting here; I'm already unable to post in the FFXI forum because I haven't linked my account to the CnB/Crysta scams. Possibly many FFXIV fans aren't worried about the payment system currently because.. they aren't paying. If the current state of FFXI is an indication though, SE, despite all its fawning and trendy-hip Yoshi-P-isms, doesn't give a flying Crysta about their playerbase or fans, EXCEPT when they realize it will impact them financially. If we can't ask them to be loyal to their loyal customers, the only options we have left are ultimatums.
Arguing against this thread or any of the positive support it has received is not in anyone's best interests. If you think it is, ask Square Enix this: with all the money you'll saving on CC processing and unusable leftover Crysta with this shady move, will you be passing some of those savings onto us, the customers by lowering subscription fees?
And this:
What's wrong with you for not being appalled at the blatant racism being directed at all non-JP players that are having direct payment options forcibly withdrawn? This CAN'T just be all about the money, or they'd be sticking it to their countrymen too.. So yeah, my comment was so on-target that if Chuck Norris were to attempt to counter it with a roundhouse kick, they would repel each other harmlessly. This is pretty bold, blatant, undisguised contempt for the western world. I'm not JP so I need to email a photocopy of my berf certificate? What if I photoshop my picture in with asian features; will I get more preferential treatment?Quote:
and really? "Xenophobic JP ONRY racist bastards" what the hell is wrong with you ............
I would play this game for all eternity through good and bad but I can honestly say if another payment method other then C&B/Crysta isn't added I might cancel my sub when they start charging.
