. . . Try again?
Oh, hey, look, you just used it as a noun. . .
Also, the definition right above the one you quoted:
–noun
1.
a sudden assault or attack, as upon something to be seized or suppressed: a police raid on a gambling ring.
2.
Military. a sudden attack on the enemy, as by air or by a small land force.
3.
a vigorous, large-scale effort to lure away a competitor's employees, members, etc.
Look, I'm willing to use the word raid as long as it is called pantie raid as someone had suggested earlier
Raid
–noun
1.
a sudden assault or attack, as upon something to be seized or suppressed:
AND
–verb (used with object)
5.
to make a raid on.
thesaurus for raid and then for duck
Raid can be used as both a noun and verb but your still missing the point that your analogy does not fit, like you said a duck is a duck and raid can also be a siege, or assault and so on. my use of grammar may have been off at first but does not change the point i was attempting to make.
I have been arguing that point the entire time in this thread. I don't care if they call them a raid or not. It makes no difference. It's just a word. What does make a difference is the anti-WOW brigade that poopoos ideas and stymies development efforts because something isn't a polar opposite of WOW.
Please tell me we're not arguing over something we secretly agree on.
I believe Ilean is simply trying to convince you that a duck is food and nothing else. because he likes to eat duck.
I've had rabbit but not duck.. what kind of rabbit? not sure, maybe easter rabbit.
Let's go back to your original quote, before you edited:
. . . so, how the flying hell does my analogy not fit?
If it functions like a raid, has loot like a raid, plays like a raid, it's an invasion!
Wait, no, it's a ****ing raid. Call it a raid, ffs. . .
A duck is a waterbird with a broad blunt bill, short legs, webbed feet, and a waddling gait.
can not also be referred by any other word unless you are specifying species.
A raid is:
Verb: Conduct a raid on: "officers raided thirty homes".
Noun: A rapid surprise attack on an enemy by troops, aircraft, or other armed forces in warfare.
But can also be referred to as foray, assault, incursion and so on.
So with the above said there is no correlation to you analogy.
But this is so far off point from all the flaming over a few people requesting a name change there's a whole forum out there one thread requesting something minoot is not the end of the world.
. . .Are you at all familiar with the saying I'm using? Or is this just a case of obfuscating stupidity?
I guess this song is more appropriate for the mood of this post?

i think this is my last post.. no point trying to explain to these people the reason for the suggestion.. they refuse to hear. Fight Fight Fight FIght Fight Fight FIght Fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand the saying you just used it wrong... do you understand what a pontificating dildo is?
You sure? 'Cause you just called it a waterbird. You could also have just called it a bird. Those're both other words that can refer to a duck, without specifying a species.
I'm also curious how an inanimate object can pontificate, but that's a topic for a different discussion, I guess. . .
I know this rarely happens on the forums but you sir are right and i was wrong your analogy applies, and my grammar was atrocious (partly rushed/agitated). However i still do not agree with only calling something by one definition if there is another that can be used and one has a negative stigma attached.
That's. . . totally not how I expected that to play out. I'm always surprised when an argument somewhat abruptly ends. >_>
Anyway, I see your point, I just disagree that there is/should be a stigma attached.
ETA: Also, now I'm stuck reading TV Tropes for the forseeable future. Why did I link to that? :(
Yeah i get carried away and competitive from time too time, however i do attempt to own up to my faults when needed.
"I just disagree that there is/should be a stigma attached." There should never be stigmas, they are just developed over time much like the negative stigmas attached to hardcore and casual these days. You can argue if they exist or not, but they are there plain as day when you look at posts.
If your into TV Tropes then you would pry enjoy the read on labeling theory the original is very lengthy. I wish i still had access to my colleges scholarly journal web link ><
I have to agree with the original post,
I absolutely hate all these "WOW" terms infesting the MMO world.
My biggest gripe is the LFG its LFP LFP!!!!!!
LOOKING FOR PARTY !!!
But in general what I hate most is the amount of people who complain about the R25 and rank R45 upcoming content saying "how can you say a r**d is 4 or 8 members"
I know WOW was popular and I know a lot of people have come from a WOW or similar background.
But please open your mind and embrace final fantasy and quite rightly the thoughts and opinions of players from XI there wouldnt be a XIV without a XI so just take on board the views of your Final Fantasy MMO seniors.
FFXI was for the majority of its players the first MMO they had ever played, sucked in to try them by the FF7-FF8 games. As such they didn't come in with all the terminology and knowledge from other MMOs. FFXIV is different, all the players it has have played MMOs before and the huge pulling games like 7-8 don't exist for the new generation.
As such this game is filled with MMO players, many from XI (that played wow too). You just won't re-create FFXI, its ideals or community on any other game, that's why everyone uses these terms.
There, now you can all stfu about them using the term "raid".Quote:
4Gamer: In producer letter it talks about adding raid contents, but this is for 1 party only correct? When hearing Raid we image something that requires like 15 players before it got changed.
YoshiP: That depends on how you take Raid, for example in WoW there are Raids that are for 5 players, 10 players, and also 20+ “Hard to get that much people” type of stuff. Stuff for hardcore gamers. I am thinking as raid is contents that requires strategy, unlike EQ (EverQuest) raid=large-scale PvE.
4Gamer: So like it says on the producer letter, the Raid Dungeons are more of strategy content rather than a large-scale content correct?
YoshiP: Yes, making it instanced and not being distracted by others. Having 8 players build a strategy to clear/complete. In later letters most likely will call a large-scale PvE, a large-scale PvE not Raid.
