Isn't that typical for a 32-bit app that is not large address aware?
Forgive me, I'm more of a hardware guy than a software guy and my programming (and 3D modeling) experience barely extend past brainbench And CompTIA

The PS3 version isn't even out yet and we're already being subjected to its limitations. Great.Quote:
When taking into consideration the performance of the PlayStation 3 version
More SE spin... they might as well've developed this game solely for console.
I thought DX10/11 was already popular.... its been avaliable for a good while now. ever since what... GTX XXX series and Raedon HD XXXX series?
Ok.. for you guys who claim have nothing wrong, i was one of them too! before patch 1.16 my PC running FFXIV smoothly but after the patch 1.16, it start to lag so much, even loading time takes forever! i was like wtf happen with FFXIV???
Somehow I think we are just SEs cheap lab rats. They don't care if they poison the pc players. It's all for the PS3 players ultimate gaming experience -_-
They shouldn't have started with a PC version in the first place.
see the differences between directx9/11 in the crysis 2 trailer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ON8fU...layer_embedded
a good demonstration?
Yah SE's engine probably lacks these, where as if they had used CryEngine 3 (just talking example here), they could just "Switch it on".
My Graphics Card has DX11 support, but it cannot handle extensive tessalation, infact it cant even handle Crysis 2 on highest settings so i wouldnt benefit :(
Tesselation actually can make the game run faster. The GPU has a seperate tesselation unit. They could reduce the default polygon count of all objects in the world and by applying tesselation near objects would still have more detail than they have now. You could even display more players at the same time.
I would suspect that they could theoretically use tessellation to improve their "polygon shaving" technique even further http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc0ilSksWBQ.
I don't know any of these stuff but looked up tessellation comparison video, pretty cool.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blZHGKTpS6I can tell at 1:25 the rocks looks more real + the building in the back.
another comparaison video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSfN7OTUOTA
Highend NV cards have two tesselation units. But the computational power of the AMD cards is better. I think having a high tesselation performance is important for a DX11 gamer card since it's one of the two most important DX11 features. The other is DirectCompute which enhances postprocessing and other math on the GPU. I hope AMD learned from that and enhances the tesselation performance on their highend models some more.
It's not unrealistic to use tesselation on all surfaces imho :P
But nv pushing the devs to do some bad poop is true. PhysX (*puke*) is the best example and is hopefully someday the death of nv.
I'm not really referring to using it on all surfaces which is fine, the problem is polygon density. There can only be so much detail in an area before you start needlessly crippling performance for very little gain.

This has probably been posted before in this thread (did not read fully), and also posted in the other threads.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think over 50% is the majority. I mean, that's what I was taught in kindergarten.
The CMs need to forward hardware survey sites to developers so they pull their heads out of their asses.
Facts people put together:
1) A DX10 capable card is required to run the game at playable framerates
2) Steam, the biggest digital distribution service in the world, records over 50% of the computers it's installed on to be DX10 capable.
3) Windows 7 dominates the OS market, capable of DX11.
4) Windows Vista, capable of DX10, was upgraded to support DX11 shortly after 7's release.
5) DX10 is 5 years old. Was FFXIV really in development for over 5 years? Considering the amount of re-hashed content, I highly doubt it.
6) You can make different clients for different platforms. More development time, yes. Better experience for all of your CUSTOMERS, absolutely.
/mind trails off
It probably more to due with the PS3 issues, need of the new engine to handle server issues and PC side, and to be able to run on the PS3.
I hope to god, they do ntot hold back the PC version for because of the PS3 limitations, like the PS2 played a role in further progress of XI. Sure the PC was able to have better bump mapping and detail, but other aspects weere always limited to the PS2 ability to display items in variety.
Direct is standard. It is the most popular. Opengl is a rare thing in gaming, and lacks features. We don't expect the PS3 version to be amazing, jsut playable and smooth. Yet don't hold back the game on PC's becuase of the issues faced on the PS3.
Edit:
GDI with the necro'ing, didn't even realize it.
im convinced your gay reinhart..............
Mmmk that came from no where LOL, must be someone I know from FFXI who hates me or something.
You really seem to hate me on this forums for some reason I can't understand LOL. First person to be on my black list I guess.
Just came in to see why this thread was necro'd and I see your post... lol
